I thought Bob Marley turned down treatment for his illness and died of stupidity

Incorrect. Not sure why your taking a dig at Marley, he did a lot of good with his music who's theme was: justice, peace, and respect. I have a friend right now, his name is Andy, who if I began to tell you the positive influence he's made on thousands of young students (he's been a teacher for over 25 years) we would ready to declare sainthood on the man; he just turned down treatment for cancer as well. The reason, the illness is just too advanced and wanted to live his last few months/years without lessoning the quality of life that chemo will undoubtedly diminish. On another note, my brother's cancer was caught "early", but the chemo ended up killing him, literally (chemo lowers your immune system and he ended up litterally choking to death on fluid from pneumonia). He was 38. I, like you, at one time was quick to judge someone turning down treatment. One of the worse memories of my life was arguing with my dad over getting treatment, he didn't want it, I told him he was giving up, he ended up getting the treatment for me. It turned out, as was always the case with him and me that, I was wrong, he was right. As much as the world donates to cancer research, we are painfully primitive in its treatment to date.

Prove it ! All ive seen is 1 soup article that in the wat i read it was ambiguous, They could have been talking about marlboro in the past tense.

Ok, maybe this will convince you. Afterall, they are talking present tense, and its from the mouth of the main head.

...Desmosedici GP11 in its new livery, while today's meeting with the press starred Claudio Domenicali, General Director of Ducati Motor Holding...

"Third: the valuable support of our sponsors, from Title Sponsor Marlboro to our official sponsors, Telecom, Generali, Enel, Shell, Riello UPS; the addition of important new partners like Diesel and AMG; companies that have renewed their commitment; and others that have joined us." LINK

Are you ready to concede?

if cig money could put 24 bikes on the grib bring it i say...

on a side note. why isn't there any beer sponsors?
<

hm i don't remember any alcohol sponsors except nastro azzurro ....quite strange,in f1 you have johnny walker for example

anybody know whether it is strictly about tobacco or are smoking paraphernalia included in the ban?

its funny to me,i'd also say bring tobacco money back in if it helps to finance the grid but then again i must admit growing up seeing the marlboro yamahas and ferraris made quite an impression on me...

the problem is when you ban tobacco it will lead to a chain reaction .it advertising for online gamble, alcohol, energy drings etc. ok?

And, lest we forget, it was tobacco sponsorship that brought forth the most awesomely beautiful F1 car...

I'm not sure people are getting the topic of the thread. The question is, does Marlboro still sponsor Ducati? I think we can safely say, YES (unless you are Chopper). What is at stake for him is will he continue supporting Rossi now that his hero has sold out, as he had said before.

I think we all agree, for the most part, that we welcome tobacco money, or any other company/industry willing to put in money toward our sport. If anybody is trying to make a moral argument about where money should come from vs what the social responsibility effect will be, well then its safe to say companies that support drunks and gamblers, as well as petro companies are probably at the top of sleaze.

The ambiguity came from the "we would like to thank marlboro" that could have ment for past support. What do you mean "concede"? all i wanted was information from more than one internet news site. Far enough seeing i don't see any marlboro signs on bike or riders, but ill take your word for it and concede !.

.... you Rossi !!!

Hahahahaha. Hahahahahaha

Btw, he thanked AMG in the same sentence, so I think it gives a clue that he wasn't thinking past tense.

Anyway compa, I was thinking about your hideous yellow and red tshirt and thought just how fitting the colors are now. So I'm really looking forward to seeing you in that ridiculously loud shirt.

C'mon compa, Rossi is gonna need all the support he can get. And in the spirit of Ducati testing at Spain this weekend, the theme of red & yellow needs to continue to Laguna.

Hate to beat a dead horse but, even GPone knows Ducati is sponsored by Marlboro.

Sure, nobody is obligated to spend as much as Marlboro did with Ducati at Madonna di Campiglio, for Wrooom... LINK

Marlboro to extend deals

Marlboro is on the verge of extending its title sponsorship deals with both Ferrari and the Ducati MotoGP team, AUTOSPORT has learned.

The current deals run until the end of this season, but sources have revealed that negotiations are at an advanced stage for them to be renewed until the end of 2014.

It is possible that Ferrari's deal could be announced as early as its new car launch, which takes place in Maranello on January 28.

Although tobacco sponsorship had originally been expected to be eradicated from F1, and many countries ban the display of sponsorship logos, Marlboro has continued its high-profile association with both F1 and MotoGP.

A spokesman for Philip Morris, Marlboro's parent company, said that any new deal would be wholly within international law.

"We see no obstacles in the way of extension," said the spokesman. "Our relationship with Ferrari is a real partnership built over a period of over 20 years of constant, mutual support."

Last year Marlboro was forced to abandon its bar-code sponsorship design following suggestions it was a form of subliminal advertising. It has been replaced this year by an all new logo, which was sported by Ferrari personnel during last week's Wrooom media event.

Ferrari declined to comment on how close it was to a new deal, but suggested that there was no reason to believe a fresh sponsorship deal would not be agreed.

"All conditions (for extension) have been met," he said.

This year marks Marlboro's 40th season as an F1 team sponsor, with the brand having originally entered the sport with BRM in 1971.

But in all honesty who gives a fat rats who sponsors the team? As long as the teams have the funds to race i don't care.

I see -- the whole point (for some) is this: we are not against tobacco money, all money is welcome, we really don't care BUT we want to condemn Rossi because he is taking money from Marlboro -- oh, we have nothing against Marlboro, for sure -- it's just because he once said, years ago, that he would not have any tobacconist sponsor: and now, gotcha! he has one. And he already had Gauloise and Camel before, so he's really shameless. We can safely despise him now.

And in the future if they ever legalize weed, then you would have Casey Stoner sponsored by Chronic Racing, lolol.

Spot on.......

And especially with the ever compounding rubbish here I think Ben we need another section aside from General Motogp chat, 'ROSSI HATERS CHAT' that way they can all fester in their own bogpit and the rest of us don't need to sift through their excrement to find reasonable posts

My response J4rn0 was in relation to Jumkie & Rog's little exchange.

I do not think any worse of Ducati or Rossi or Ferrari for that matter, for retaining much needed sponsorship.

I don't even think Jumkie does, he just likes to wind old Rog up occassionally.

In fact I bet Yamaha would love to have this issue right now.

Storm in a friggin tea cup.

YES, exactly! Words and character count. Or should we sweep this under the rug like u do for all things unsightly about Rossi? (Like uve done desperately, recently screaming that no, the ducati is only undergoing minor changes, its the shoulder, bla bla.) Lorenzo & Stoner are .... for complaining, oh but Rossi did the exact ....... thing, and u rationalized, well that was right when he did it. Ur double standard is pathetic, and im here to point it out every time a bopper opens his mouth. Yes, most of us dont hav a prob with tobacco, we didnt put thos words in Rossi's mouth, and now having to eat them (while u apologized for it); my prob is with the spotless legend u guys try to create while damning a list of great rivals whos careers hav been colored by the yellow army vilifying them. If Rossi didnt like them, mindless worshipping throngs such as urself followed suit. U guys hav ruined the public image of Gibernau, Biaggi, Stoner, and now attempting Lorenzo; for a year u guys tried the same .... with Hayden, but his character shined through the ......... So yeah, J4rno, buddy, old pal, take a look at ur hero. He sold the .... out!
