superbikes assen!

Thanks for the pictures Marijke, looks like you had a great time. I hope to attend a WSBK event sometime soon in the future.

Nice pics, thanks for uploading them!

Is it me or does that Aprilia look as tiny as a GP bike??

Wow Mari, great pics. The view areas are close. Damn, you're right up on the action. Very cool. Just added Assen to bucket list. You Euros don't even know how good you have it.

Just wondering, what language to they speak in the PA system? (Maybe be a stupid question but it looks like people come from everywhere and perhaps since English is universal they might go with that, but not sure.)

Just out of interest, and this isn't specifically to oyu, but to all not in europe. What motorsport events go on your to do lists?

Also i'll add that at The GP (or TT as it is) last year the PA switched between all sorts of languages, including English.

For me its:

Europe:

Donny/BHatch--because I have a fat drunk friend near by who will take me in and feed me. It would rove to be a party with a race to boot. Plus its a place that has seen man Schwantz classics moments (albeit 'overrated').

Mugello--because it looks like the fans are most passionate and the atmosphere looks crazy. Italy strikes me as the number one place that I could go by myself and be invited to some stranger's house for dinner after the races. Racing and hospitality is in their blood.

Valencia--despite not caring too much for Spanish culture, it looks like a awesome track and spectacle. Plus the attendance is mind boggling. And of course, its the site where Hayden 'cruised' to a world championship.

And now...Assen: Reminds me of Miller in Utah. Flat but flowing. Plus of course, what can be said about their long tradition. Geez, every corner has a classic moment in the history of the sport. Oh, not to mention Hayden got a "lucky" win there.

To a lessor degree: Jerez, the stadium like track seems intriguing to me. Lots of left handers, and you know Americans like that.

Outside of Europe:

PI: The 2nd most beautiful track in all of the series (2nd only to Laguna). The view is spectacular (from what I've seen on TV). It reminds me of Laguna actually, with its elevation changes and proximity to the ocean. And you know the Aussies drink, so it looks like my kinda place.

Qatar: It looks mind boggling to have such a beautiful track in the middle of nowhere.

Not far from my priorities as it happens. I've not made it to Mugello yet, but will do before Rossi quits. I'll only bother with Valencia the title is up for grabs as the track/viewing isn't great, but i bet the atmosphere is special. I'd recommend Jerez without a doubt, it was something else!

Are there no events outside of motogp you would bother with? LeMans? F1 at Monza or anything of that nature?

Ah, so viewing is poor at Valencia? Well that's a big downer. I don't like tracks with ...... viewing, you feel cheated. That is why I thought Jerez would be cool. From the pictures, it looks like a big ... bowl with grandstands all around but nothing in the center to impede views--is that right? Anyway, I'm not sure I would make it out alive in Spain, most likely I would have a Peders sucks t-shirt on. But then again, Lorenzo has won me over, so it might say 'Peders Chuppa' (sucks) on the front but 'Andale Lorenzo' on the back. I wonder what they would do with that?

There is nothing outside of motorcycle racing that interest me at the world level. Perhaps the only thing I might be interested to see is MX or SM in Europe. Nothing on four wheels though. F1 looks cool but only if I happen to be at a place and time that there is an event. Otherwise, I wouldn't go. I have seen plenty of CHAMP CAR/IRL league stuff, and of course Nascar here, but I don't think Europe has the equivalent of speed-oval racing.

Well, the Valencia thing comes down to preference. The view is of course broad and largely un-obstructed, that is the way the circuit was designed. However the downside is that you are behind the gravel traps and service road, quite far back, always on the outside and unable to roam from stand to stand during the weekend. I like to walk a track, and preferably get somewhere close up (usually inside a turn) where you can really see the bikes working with a sensation of speed, and if your lucky see into the riders eyes through the visor. In Jerez i found the Spanish fans totally un-threatening, they even warned us before they set off the fire-crackers!

As far as europes equivalent to speed-oval racing i don't know of anything significant. Odly enough after building the worlds first purpose built race track at Brooklands, it wasn't until Rockingham was built in the 90's that we had another, and its a bit rubbish.

Thanks Mari fro the great picsand what a great race.. I wonder is it the Bike or Haga .

Last year when he was on R1 and Bayliss on the Duke, Haga was always behind Bayliss ..Therefore I can conclude that Spies can become WSBK champion by riding factory duke ?

I was wondering this same thing. Is it the Duc or is it Haga? Was it the Duc or was it Bayliss?

The R1 is a different bike this year though.

Easy. Answer: It was Bayliss. (NO question)

Get grandstand tickets! We got to the circuit in 07 long before sunrise to get on the banks with the general addmission fans and it was as good as full! Fortunately we had seats in the nearby stand (looking at the first of the two right handers in the stadium, where Lorenzo first planted his flag) which was fine because we were right in the tick of it. IF you are looking for something a bit more civilized the stands on the fast rights as they end the lap offer a good view of the track and all the pandamonium that takes place.

Here's a great home video of Spies crash at Assen.
It looks like he hit the grass and got highsided.
