Stoner to be inducted as legend.

Of course, nowadays everyone qualifies to be a "legend".

BTW, da fucc did Kevin Schwantz do to be such a "legend"?  He's not even that accomplished...... I guess some dude with a redneck I don't care attitude who's too dumb to even know that he's dumb, will get you in the spotlight and make you bigger then you really are or something.  People are sheep, they follow people with a loudmouth..... but doesn't see that quiet dude who speak softly but carries a big stick.

Won the WC on a Zook against some stiff competition - Rainey, Beattie, Chandler, Barros. That's probably enough for a knighthood, a Papal medal and enough karma to be reincarnated as the Dalai Lama.

Stop trying to 'build' him up............ dude didn't even do that much, and this u know.  So fucc your underdog pat myself on the back mentality.

I don't care for him myself - you make a lot of assumptions.

Is it true that those cult/groupie girls will do anything? How many you got?

To be fair KiddyK Schwantz did not win the WC competing against Rainey as his (Schwantz's) WC came after the accident that put an end to the career of Rainey.

He did however compete against Doohan (albeit and injured one) .

What he had done is beat a number of riders across a number of years whilst riding an inferior machine whilst entertaining the masses by personality and daring.

None of the above diminishes the WC in any way, shpe nor form.

He won 25  500 GP races on a Suzuki, against great riders on Hondas and Yamahas.

I could have stopped at he won 25 500 GP races.

I have a semantic issue with MotoGP Legend. Isn't 'legendary' status inferred over time by peers, insiders, and fans? Hall of fame - ok, legend is not inducted.

Well I have been accused of bias when it comes to Stoner many times and have said before so will say again, yes he is an extremely talented rider and an all time great in many ways, but he is not a legend of the sport (all IMO).

I say this as for mine, the word legend is a term to often used (as is great) and describes achievements of far greater stature than Stoner achieved. To me, Rossi is a legend as is Doohan, Lawson certainly, Ago absolutely, but Stoner for me is sadly no.

Nothing personal against Stoner there either as for me he is still sadly missed from the sport as one only needs to monitor the reaction when he speaks (or is asked to speak) about MotoGP. For many he will be an 'unknown' or a word I prefer, an enigma within the sport as we saw what he had, but never saw ALL of what he had nor dare I say, saw the real Stoner.

Great, yes, legend NO

So by your statement, no rider who retires deserves legend status?

I dare say that many will disagree with you on that one

I agree with most of your post but i think Stoner should be in the Hall of fame because he was the most successful rider in the 800cc formular. I doubt that record will ever be broken.

Are Tensing and Hillary legends? How long did the feat they undertook .... take?

Billy the kid?

The man from snowy river?

The red baron?

Etc.

Rog, good to see you back

For what it is worth, agree totally on the proviso that Hall of Fame and Legends are separated.

IMO, Hall of Fame should be for all champions etc, similar to an honour board at a club or so where Legend status is a further room which is somewhat sacrsanct (a bit over the top admittedly but none the less)

Question then, does Randy Mamola deserve to be in the GP HoF?

My answer: yes.

How about Nico Terol? My answer: no (yet Nico is a "world champ". Technically)

Randy gets HoF without question. Nico, time will tell!

You're right, Terol is not done (my oversight).  Errr  Ok, well, I was trying to respond to Gaz saying one needed to be a "champ", I proposed Mamola given he was never a MotoGP/500 champ, Terol has been at least a lower class champ.  Let me try again then...

HoF

Jarno Saarinen: yes ( despite no  premier class title)

I agree. Hall of Fame should be more about the impact you have on the sport rather than just results. Although that kind of opens it up to a pretty wide range of people (and not necessarily just riders).

That is some impressive company Stoner will be joining on the MotoGP Legends list.
