Stoner begins to feel the stress

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (mbracing @ Jul 16 2007, 04:03 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>His main rival crashed, he did not. 5th place
Agree. Since when did 5th (consider the field of talent) become so bad anyway? I mean the guy rode great. Do people really expect the other guys to lie down? Casey rode like nails all things considered.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Richo33 @ Jul 16 2007, 05:13 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>Soldiers on the battlefield are fearful (afraid) of their death but are far from cowards.

There is a reason why fear and coward are different words.
I just read this. Great way of putting it!

and i think rj is right, gui just used the wrong word, language barrier thing, no big deal !

to word that more clearly it should have said:

i would not consider someone a coward for being affraid, but for ..........

does that make more sense now?

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Racejumkie @ Jul 17 2007, 11:29 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>I didn't say it, Stoner did.
Did he? Enlighten me. This is all I could find and it looks very definitive to me:
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE <div class='quotemain'>"Fifth was the absolute maximum I could have done today."

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE <div class='quotemain'>And if you check your posts on this thread you agreed with him. The question is magnitude, how much could have he improved.
Yes I totally agree with Stoner here.
And his answere is:
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE <div class='quotemain'>"Fifth was the absolute maximum I could have done today."

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE <div class='quotemain'>The rest of your post was confusing as to what was your point of contention, so really didn't know what to respond.

Figures, it's about race experience and how much difference it makes being carefull and going all out: 0.X s.

Difference in that race: nada. On the other hand he could have done a lot worse. Try to stay with edwards and possibly crash or loose two positions to melandri and hopper.

You may want to read back to follow our exchanges in this thread so that my reply can make sense.

But here I will remind you.

Again, let me reminder what you asserted in your question to me, you said/asked:

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE <div class='quotemain'>and still you say that the rider (stoner) could have done better on those tires?

Here was my reply:

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE <div class='quotemain'>I didn't say it, Stoner did. And if you check your posts on this thread you agreed with him.

Every now and then I get a real gem debating you. But this one is more like pure gold.

So you can NOT find where Stoner said he could have pushed harder (meaning)? And you can NOT find where you agreed with him? And you say you need to be "enlightened" about him assessing he could have had better lap times and me pointing out that he said it, and you agreed (meaning)? Ok, here is me "enlightening you."

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE <div class='quotemain'>Stoner: “But I looked at the tyre afterwards and it was okay, so next time I know how hard I can push and not to be afraid of this kind of thing and not to be so cautious in the future”

See the part that says: "next time I know how hard I can push" and “not be so cautious in the future”? This means he is saying he could have pushed harder. (meaning) When you say something and look to its meaning, this by definition points to something "definative".

Here is you agreeing with Stoner (post#3):

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE <div class='quotemain'>I think he just learned that he can push harder, but that wouldn't result in 3 sec better times. Maybe .5 or so.

See the part that says: “he (Stoner) just learned that he ‘can push harder’ and “Maybe .5 or so”?

That means you are agreeing (with the meaning) that he ascertained that he (Stoner) could push harder. Seems funny but its plain English and I really cannot put it any other way, you said it best, I’m just reminding you what you actually said.

So he could have pushed harder (Stoner said not I). And you agreed. Are you convinced that I was simply pointing out what Stoner said and pointing out that you agreed with him?

As far as you saying he could have only made 5th place as "definative". Well yes, I agreed, and so did you with me. This was the part that I said "magniture". In other words, the question is not could he have pushed harder (he said he could have & and you and I agreed, but you forgot you did) the question is 'how much' harder, and would it have made a difference in position. Well he said 5th was the best he could have done. So this is the "definative" position (only), but he is also saying he could have had more competative lap times. Do you understand the difference? Do you understand that all along we have agreed, though you contended me?
