Congrats to the both of them.

With the rumours of Rossi possibily having a child on the way, all the mindless Rossi/Stoner fanboys will probably turn it in to some form of competition.

man casey is so relaxed he can afford to miss a race and still win the championship, none has accomplished that

honda would love that

His job and yours have a slightly different dynamic, dont you think. He has, or had serious concerns. Considering there has been a ban on meat shipments for cattle that was close to 3 times as far away, he has legitimate concerns. Everyone keeps saying you get as much flying, you get more in an Xray. What is the cumulative if he flies to Motegi, spends 4 days in a hot zone, wrecks on Sunday and has a battery of xrays.
<

I have mostly stayed out of discussion on this issue which I know quite a lot about professionally because that probably biases me as well.

Basically you have hit on the issue; any excess direct radiation from fukushima at motegi is orders of magnitude (at least 3) less than the radiation from an X-ray, and stoner will get considerably greater but still minor increase in his radiation dose if he flies home to australia rather than attending motegi.

The risk of further catastrophic events at fukushima, further earthquakes and tsunamis etc is harder to know, but I guess concern about earthquakes would rule out laguna seca also. What is fairly clear is that groundwater contamination and contamination of agricultural products local to fukushima was underestimated or under-reported initially; just from general stuff in the press I think the beef contamination was due to the cattle being fed contaminated rice straw from the vicinity of fukushima though rather than the radiation having spread hundreds of kilometers.

I think it is understandable that inconsistent information both about the state of things at the nuclear plant and the extent of contamination around fukushima has provoked concern.

I personally would be happy to go to motegi, but probably wouldn't eat Japanese beef whilst I was there, although I am not sure whether the contamination is merely measurable rather than dangerous.

Well said Gecko - yep congrats on the annouced new little Stoner thats the biggest thing in life TBH for any couple.

As for Japan - I feel CS expressed his views on this far too early - deal with it in the background with his advisors and the real boss Adriana !

Ok he's used to having her everywhere he goes but if I ever was in his position (damn I wish) whilst I'm committed to my current employer/sponsers etcetc and the rest of my competitors ride I would have to say "Honey the show must go on" you stay home "I'll be back" haha put himself in a corner speaking out earlier - CS grow some man balls tell the mrs's your racin !

I understand the suggestions of "Adriana can just stay home while Casey goes", but in light of their news about the future with a baby on the way I don't think it's that simple.

Put yourself in Casey's shoes: you're a young guy who's just found out you're going to be a dad. Part of your job is now requring you to go to an area not far from Fukushima that may or may not impact on your future health...I think it's fair to say that he has a right to have have second thoughts about whether it is worth risking HIS future health, not just Adriana's. I think you can certainly debate whether or not Casey (and lets not forget that he hasn't been the only rider to voice his concerns) spoke up too early, but on an emotional level I can totally see where he's coming from.

Congrats to them both, by the way. Very happy news and I hope that all the talk about Motegi doesn't take away from such great news.

Carmello:

"When will you all realise that nuclear power is SAFE, SAFE, SAFE. Motegi needs you Casey, and the world needs more reactors...we are agreed yes. Por el amor de satan!"

Congrats to Casey & Adriana.

He's 25, he has said some dumb stuff, his fear for radiation was one of them. At least hes now asked some "trust worthy" peeps and seem to be setting him straight. That, or the 25 points he'd lose r making him smarter. No biggy, i wasnt very smart at 25. ...., im not very smart now. I'd b inclined to give the young lad a pass on this one. But for godsake, stop bitching during practice.

Mikem, ur Marlboro post was confusing. Dont see the relavence.

My points poorly expressed actually were that being scared of radiation, rationally or not, due to personal health concerns has nothing to do with tobacco sponsorship, and that as far as I knew it was mainly Roger and not stoner fans who had criticised rossi for his backdown Perhaps in adding that stoner fans were in no position to criticise rossi since stoner rode for marlboro for 4 years I was being "diplomatic" as is my wont.

As an aside, if stoner through some twist of fate ever goes back to ducati it won't be while they are sponsored by marlboro, as I personally see his treatment by the marlboro man as what disenchanted him with ducati more than any bike problems. I guess it is hardly surprising that someone employed in the business basically of promoting addiction in the young to a dangerous drug was prepared to dismiss ill health in someone he saw as his employee.

I wouldn't go ........ if I did not want to. Though I know that Casey was an ambassador for a small Japanese primary school a while ago ..... who knows maybe something happened there that affected him?

Crikey Baz, have you been on the piss or you've been smoking some good .....

You kinda lost me. . . . . . . ..

Yeah there is a real similarity between a soldier taking his family into a war zone and a rider taking his family to a race track. The similarity in this case though is Stoner doesn't want to put his family in danger by exposing them to radiation just like a soldier does not want to put his family in danger by exposing them to a war zone. An oil rig is a WPHS lock down environment and no place for a family. The back of a pit box is a relatively safe place in comparison. Not sure of the last time someone was killed in the back of a pit box in comparison to how many have been killed on oil rigs just in the last 12mths.

How many other racers have their wives with them 24/7 ?
