Spies will beat Edwards and Tose at Valencia

Oh yeah, now I remember. It was
with reference to Spies' chances of any success in WSBK in his rookie year. Factor in his now
having had experience of some of the tracks for MotoGP and then factor in his not-too-shabby
results in his three wildcard rides (having never been to Europe) on the piss-poor Suzuki, and you might at least be more open-minded to the possibility that the Texan will shine in his first year. Not making any predictions mind you... But no-one could have predicted that the Crashey Stoner of 2006
would kick ... in 2007 on the lame Ducati. I say, keep an open mind. That's all.

My comments and everyone else's comments on this thread pertain to the Valencia race not
next season.

how will finishing in front of Spies make the point he doesn't belong in MotoGP? because thats the only point he has been making.

Spies will beat all your ...... Its a shame this many people doubt what he will be capable of doing. With DNFs to the minimal next year and similar mishaps that happened this year. He will shock you all. Spies will be in the top 5 by the end of 2010 season.

All you doubters make me sick.
Tsk tsk tsk.

The arguments used to predict the outcome at Valencia are the same used to
mis-predict his results in WSBK. So my point remains salient.

His 8th at Laguna (Toesland in 9th and Edwards in 14th) and 6th at Indy (Edwards 15th and Toesland 18th) were way beyond what the doubters predicted and those were on the Suzuki. At Valencia he'll be on a more competitive bike with a fresh engine. He beat Edwards and Toesland in both wildcards. So I reckon it pays to keep an open mind.

What with the GPs being dominated over the last few decades by
Roberts
Spencer
Lawson
Rainey
Kosinski
Schwantz
Roberts Jr.
Hayden

and two years back in the '70s by good old Barry Sheene
- you Brits need to do whatever it takes to maintain high spirits.

Im not interested in where the rider was born. I look for class, skill etc. I grew up watching Hailwood and Agostini with my Dad (who named me after Mike Hailwood, he must of been a fanboy!!?) and Sheene and Roberts after that, and so on. .... It does piss me off that there is no Brit riders in the top class, but with Bradley and Scott coming through, i shouldnt have to wait too long.

Just, as you guys say, takin' the piss mate. I feel the same way. It's all about the
guys who ride the best and exhibit all the off-track qualities of good sportsmanship.
That's the factor which is so appealing about the off-track relationship between Spies and
Haga. Very old fashioned I guess. But so am I. It's why I will always have much
more admiration for the Hailwoods and the Sheenes than I ever will for narcissistic Rossi
regardless of how many races he wins.

As much as it pains me to say it as a Brit and a complete fan of the man, but Bazza, bless his heart, was in many ways worse.

I had the pleasure of meeting Mike Hailwood not long before he was taken from us. Top bloke!

I'll have to take your word for it. Back in the day, media coverage wasn't as invasive
and all-inclusive as it is now. We Americans mostly only knew the side of Sheene that
publicists and fan-boy journalists put into print. But he seemed like a right guy.

He was well loved in his retirement in australia, and despite extraordinarily ample opportunity during thousands of hours of sometimes live tv as a motorsports commentator did not big note himself or refer back to his past glories as many do with very much less frequent opportunity, and was good humoured, knowledgeable, almost invariably positive and not infrequently incisive in his media role.

although i keep changing my mind like the wind and cant quite make up my mind on how good spies is, i think he will finish the year in 5th-8th. i dont know who to judge him against in WSBK, because i dont consider any of the current WSBK riders to be all that great, but still to win 50% of the races 1st year is pretty damn impressive.

i think if spies was in moto gp this year he would comfortably end the year in 5th, however you have melandri back on a honda with Simoncelli who'm i expect will both beat Dovi and Edwards, im not sure if spies can race the aliens, no matter how much thought i put into it i really dont know how to judge how good spies is-will he race the 4aliens? i doubt it but wouldnt be surprised either.

Perhaps I was being too conservative as is my wont about spies finishing 6th or 5th. As far as I can observe he usually gets progressively quicker over most race week-ends. Dani is the one for whom times in the warm-up usually have the least significance though.

ooops i posted on the wrong thread... Spies just passed Dovi for 6th!!
Dude is the real deal!!

I think i,m going to like this guy a lot.

he is cool and calm but he kicks ... and is not affraid of any names and he is very well with overtaking.

but i,m still not so sure about Bautista, Aoyama success in Motogp, if we look at De angelis he just scored a few 4th and 5th places in 35 GP's, so with all these professionals the new comers has to have really talent to make the team bosses intrested for keeping them in motogp.

But with Spies we will be almost sure of a front runner for Motogp.
just with one single race he did Yamaha a great favor, by overtaking and finishing in font of Dovi.
