Spies will beat Edwards and Tose at Valencia

Interesting side note. Wayne Gardner yesterday rode the top WSBK bikes at Portimao. This is what he said of the Yamaha

"They all have a different personalities and above all very particular characteristics. I was very impressed with the Yamaha but it's very difficult to ride. Congratulations to Ben Spies. He did a great job taking that bike to victory! "

Makes his championship all that more impressive. I think he'll approach Valencia carefully. He wants to learn the bike, put as many laps in as possible. His result in the race wont be a priority.

Wow what's with you guys... you are either way to conservative, way too stupid, or have your heads jammed way deep up yer ........ BEN SPIES WILL: Rock you, shock you, mock you (Edward's computer geek thinks otherwise
<
). He will finish at least as well as Colie has this year and will crush every other "rookie". Simoncelli is like a ....... child in terms of race intelligence, experience, strategy, AND maturity compared to Ben... Those of you pinning your hopes are Marco (like him though I do) are ......' nuts.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (levigarrett @ Oct 26 2009, 09:56 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>Is Spies Lorenzo? Is he Stoner? Is he even a mere Pedrosa? Not today, not tomorrow, not even close. I realize that for many Americans Spies is the second coming. It's been a tough 8 years in the US but honestly, the hysteria is a bit much. Ben won SBK but not until the LAST race at the LAST round against a guy who's never been a SBK champion. He's certainly performed extremely well but to think that Rossi would even be remotely concerned at this point is pure fanboy wishful thinking.

No, Rossi probably isn't concerned at this point. GP will likely be a big adjustment for Ben; he has said as much to the press. I am hopeful that, after a winter of testing and acclimation, he can place as highly next year as Colin has this year.

Once again, Spies won his title during his first year with a new team, bike, and mostly new tracks! In addition, this title was accomplished against a tenacious rider, who on many occassions Bayliss couldn't beat.

I don't see how one could take anything away from the job Ben did this year. Although I agree that expecting him to win or podium at Valencia is unrealistic.

He's not a computer geek, plus its insight from someone working within the team Spies is joining and has worked with Edwards for the last 2 years, i think its a worthwhile insight, even if you don't agree with it.

gee I wonder who this could be??? pinky your a ....... ....! if I ever see you I will break both your legs off and beat you over the head with them, and thats a ....... promise!

If im not wrong... Spies did a 1:33.2 lap time at Valencia... that is 0,6 short of the the best time set by Casey last year on a warmup...

I think it will be very interesting race... i predict Spies to be 4-6

this is going to be a jump on the testing season for ben. there will be no pressure for him to kick ... & take names just yet..... well except the fans of course... the un reasonable ones at least.
<
of course he has absolutely nothing to lose & with that lack of pressure he may just go out & have so much fun that it will come easy..... a podium maybe

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (rhyko7 @ Oct 27 2009, 07:21 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>you watch the variation in lap times in WSBK, Spies was backing off by almost half second a lap about a 3rd way into the race in some WSBK races to reserve tyres, if he backed off like that in moto gp he would lose about 6 places within 10 laps, he will have to learn to ride at the limit for long periods.
You have to factor in the difference in tires between WSBK and MotoGP. It appears to me that you have to really try to cook these Bridgestones, they're that hard and durable. Whereas the Pirellis in World Supers appear to be more susceptible to wear.

Vermeulen is also a Laguna specialist. Capirossi could only manage a 15th in that race.

That's very interesting.

Add it to the list, Jum.

I`ve got Ben somewhere between 5th and 9th,but it`ll just be nice to see a new face and new tricks.

Too many angles to look at. Here is my quick take on it. Ben is going to be in practice mode I think. He is going to take the first 10 laps of the race very conservatively, then start pulling the pin and he will end up on the back of second group. 6-10

Valencia is going to be awesome as there is no pressure on a majority of the guys out there. I wish I could watch all the coverage, there is going to be some horseplay out there I think.

I know dude, normally I wouldn't have, as can be seen in other topics, but this time I couldn't resist

Next year should be interesting. If Tech3 should have all available 'factory' spec parts on their motorcycles, I have no doubt Ben would be up their mixing it up with the usuals. Of course they will have to get an OK from whinin' Rossi first before it would be approved. I remember reading somewhere that Rossi was already complaining about Spies.

I must admit, I had my doubts about Spies' talent and if he really does have what it takes. After seeing his performance in WSBK, I'd have to say the kids got talent for sure.... though I've yet to see how he copes with pressure.

Yeah sure.. There is no pressure when you're fighting for the WSBK title.

I think he'll finish in top 10 as long as there are no problems or crash. 5th at best (If he really is like a wizard in learning new things).

22 did not mean to dis you or your friend... My opinion is that CE's "Software Engineer" (how can a "Software Engineer" not be a computer geek exactly?) has some inherent biases and is not the most objective source.
