Sachsenring GP Race Discussion

OUCH!

hey so RdP's bike was on fire..was that another engine failure that caused the initial crash?

Really sad news about Randy, he was having excellent season so far.
<

What a race,

Pedrosa was great, unfortunatly he doesn't perform like this more often. Lorenzo did a great job too, on his least favorite track, he lost only 5 points to his first rival. Casey and Vale were the greatest, they made it a nice and exiting show. I think the only reason they didn't finish like "Rossi, Gibernou" , was that Rossi was fast to give the way asa he saw Casey got inside (unlike Gibernou on that time), otherwise Rossi would have ridden into Casey and maybe had ruined their both races and maybe a bit moer damage to his own injury as well. it wouldn't have made any difference in results if Rossi had finished in front of Casey, because before the red flag Stoner was 1 second (or more) in front of him.

(Or am i wrong?)

Stupid dorna again, we couldn't see a good picture of those crashes. I can't believe that they film the races with the least amount of camera's. only one version and that was from the distance (like Rossi's crash). they can make it a lot more exiting with some more camera's out there.

I feel bad for De Puniet, i hope he wont miss as many races as Rossi did, these last gp's we have been missing riders in every round and it looks like we will miss Spargaro as well for the next race.

When Rossi crashed, we thought some rider's will become more motivated and we expected them to give us some exiting races, but exept a podium for Spies and a 4th place for Randy, everything remained the same. Today with the comeback of the Doctor we were lucky to see an exiting race again,

I was only hoping for a crash free weekend for him, and didn't expect him to stay in touch with the Aliens, but he could and he was even hungry for a podium.

Nex week Laguna Seca gp, Are you ready boots?

Kallio had no where to go and ran over Randy causing his injuries..

Thats bad, RDP was having a fantastic season, l suppose if theres anything positive to take from that pic he's lucky Kallio missed his upper body.

Exciting Race...well done pedrosa. Can't really say anything that hasnt been previously said by you guys.

Anybody catch the new gyroscopic camera on rossi's bike? What an incredible point of view its awesome.

Announcer mentioned that Lorenzo is already down to three engines. And the Hondas appear to be holding up very

well. But hell... even if Lorenzo has to start from the back of the grid - with the attrition this great - it won't be much

of an obstacle for him to slice through to the front.

Also... it occurs to me; if Lorenzo has to start from the back on a new engine - does that mean for just the first time

he uses the engine? Or does it mean - he has to start from the back for every race he uses it in.

And what if he only uses the new engine for FP and QP but races on one of the old engines?

If I have read the rules well, after using up all the allotted engines the rider is supposed to start from the pit lane 20 seconds after the pack. It's quite a lot of "slicing through" for anybody... put Lorenzo down 20 seconds in todays race and you see where he would have ended.

The way i see the rules i think you only start from the pitlane in race which you take new engine and after that in next race you can start where ever you qualify in that race.

Hearing Roger Hayden might be replacing RDP for Laguna.

Horrible idea. Rogers busy contending for another championship at the moment. For him to jump back and forth between a1000cc sbk and a 800 cc GP bike with new tires new brakes and never riding a Honda would be too much for him.

After all he's young and I'm sure a chance like this will come along again.

Probably the best round of the season so far.........Pedders was surprising, Jorge wasn't too happy but I don't think too many cared about anything but the race for 3rd, there's only one GOAT. Stoner did well too-clean and legal-would have been interesting to hear his reaction if the tables were turned on that last corner pass....

The biggest .... up once again made by Dorna. How you can stop riders from re-joining the restart when they were an innocent victim of someone else's crash is beyond ridiculous!! Especially with an already depleted field. HTF are they supposed to get their bikes back to pit lane after something like that? Yes the rule is valid when punishing the catalyst of the crash, but that's where the line should be drawn.

They carry on about saving money but all we are seeing is absurd rules that are costing more.......surely wasting Rizla Suzuki's money in logistics-crew-rider etc just to get there and then not let their fit rider join the restart is one of the biggest wastes of money one could imagine..........If they didn't have their Trump card to save them-once again- then no doubt they would have lost many more millions of viewers yesterday.

One could also bring up another valid point for the engine rule and its 'money saving' properties???!! Surely potentially rebuilding an engine like Jorge's would be more cost effective than throwing it out!!??

Someone should wake these twats from their siesta before we end up with a ten rider 'Spanish Cup'.

Rossi, Jorge, Spies, Randy and Stoner to WSBK and turn it into the biggest series in the world

Good short post race interview with Spies on MotoGP.com - Spies saying that he was actually very

happy with the results given bad luck during qualifying and during the race; also that while running

the fifth fastest pace he made up a 4 second deficit once he got past Mel and Barby. When

the woman interviewer asks Ben what his expectation are for Laguna Seca - he says, "at Laguna

we go for the podium. There's no beatin' around the bush." Which he qualified by saying "It's gonna

be tough though." Neither false humility or braggadocio. Just Texan straight talk.

Rossi thrilled with fourth on return

Valentino Rossi was delighted to take fourth on his return to MotoGP at the Sachsenring - and believes a podium finish is a realistic aim in next weekend's Laguna Seca race.

Six weeks after breaking his right leg in a practice crash at Mugello, Rossi made a surprise early return for the German Grand Prix and was close to the pace all weekend - qualifying fifth and finishing fourth, with Casey Stoner only snatching third from him at the final corner.

"I've never been this happy for a fourth place," Rossi told Italia1. "I'm happy with the way it has gone, and it was a great battle at the end, I've enjoyed myself."

Rossi felt the only area where he lost out was through rustiness in the early laps.

"Unfortunately I still lack some feeling with the new tyres," he said. "In both starts I lost too much time, and especially in the second race I lost time with [Andrea] Dovizioso unfortunately, otherwise [Jorge] Lorenzo wouldn't have been too far either.

"We've done a great job. I was in good form today, obviously my leg and shoulder hurt a bit, however I could ride well."

He expects to be faster still in the next round in America, where his target is a podium finish.

"It's been a good step forward, so next Sunday at Laguna we'll try to get on the podium," said the Yamaha rider. "It's a track I like, I've gone well there in the last years. I hope to be even more in shape with an extra week."

Rossi and Stoner swapped places more than half a dozen times as they fought over third in the closing stages in Germany, before Stoner eventually got in front as they came onto the pits straight for the last time.

"Evidently I'm great motivation for everyone, because when Stoner saw me he started running super quick, so from the next race I'll dress like another rider!" Rossi joked.

"It was a great battle with Stoner, congratulations to him. If it happened the other way around he would surely have cried like he did after Laguna Seca [in 2008], but this is racing. I'm happy because he was smiling at the end.

"It was good to watch too because we fought like crazy, I think I did the second quickest lap of the race, and when I caught up with Stoner, Lorenzo wasn't too far off, it would have been nice to try to catch up to him too."

Agreed. The first section of my post was more of a light ... a the quality of the field of remaining riders due to attrition,

with so many riders being replaced by stand-ins.

The second two parts of the post are to possibly generate speculation about clarification of the possible gray

areas of enforcement of the rules - which may in fact be open to interpretation; such as use of the new engine

in practice and use of one of the original 6 in the race itself.

I do not think so. Sachsenring is not Lorenzo`s favorite track, but he managed to get 2nd. He said he needed to adjust his riding style because of many slow corners. I think Pedrosa can be super fast only when everything works out for him. He is still very fast rider, but not sure if he can be consistently fast for every race. It is interesting to see Dani vs Stoner next year on Honda.

.............

In my view, Lorenzo is still racing MotoGP in 250 style. Common wisdom used to be that if you attempt to race premier class in 250 style, you are fast, but you crash. That proved to be absolutely true for Lorenzo in 2008, on MIchelin tires, and partially also in 2009 with Bridgestones. Now, he has not changed his style, he's still going around the corners maximizing corner speed, but he does not crash any more. I think he (his team) have found something in the electronics that helps him keeping his 250 style while saving him the crashes. On the other hand the other "aliens", Rossi, Pedrosa, Stoner, began racing in the premier class with the 990cc and had to let go of the 250 style -- Rossi in particular is far removed from it having raced the 500cc and the 990cc for several years.

I think he will come in top 7 at least (or even better), but lets say he will lose 25 points, then his bike will be ok for at least 2 more rounds which he will be on podium again. imo with this lead he wont feel at all, even if he needs to use 2 new bikes and start 2wice from pitlane+ 20 seconds.

Pedrosa and others also will suffer once or twice by some other problems. the bigger/real problem of Pedrosa is, that he loses more to Lorenzo than he wins from him.

Reasons some fans get on his back.???

Stoner: Rossi 'not a crippled hero'

By David Emmett and Matt Beer

Casey Stoner says he was impressed by Valentino Rossi's performance on his comeback in the German Grand Prix - but reckons the media has over-hyped the world champion's return from injury. Rossi and Stoner waged a spectacular battle for third place at the Sachsenring - which was Rossi's first MotoGP appearance since breaking his leg in a Mugello practice crash in early June - before Stoner grabbed the position at the last corner of the race.

While underlining that Rossi deserved praise for his German GP performance, Stoner suggested that other injured riders would not have got the same credit.

"Everybody's going on like he's a crippled hero," Stoner said. "He has a pin in the leg, and the only problem is a bit of muscle.

"We've all been through injuries - myself, Jorge [Lorenzo] and Dani [Pedrosa] - and nobody ever talks about this. But when Valentino has an injury everybody talks about what a big difference it is.

"He did a fantastic job all weekend - he was getting faster and faster, and he did a really good job. But I think his biggest problem would've been just time off the bike.

"Even if you ask him, the leg wouldn't have been such a problem, it was just that he wasn't on the bike. Like for me last year, all the muscles are a little bit sore and this was probably the more difficult thing for him."

Stoner believes Rossi would not have risked returning to racing unless he was confident he would be competitive.

"He didn't come here just to roll around," said the Ducati rider. "We saw the lap times he was doing at Misano and at Brno. He was pretty fast enough at those tests.

"With a whole weekend's riding underneath his belt, it was impressive to see him fast enough and in the race he stepped it up again, maybe got the settings dialled in a little bit better and he was running a lot faster than us."

The two made slight contact as Stoner took third place from Rossi at the last turn.

"He made a big mistake blocking a lot at the bottom of the hill, so I went the other side, got a good run on the exit," Stoner explained. "On the last lap we knew we could outbrake him there.

"He just tried to tip in as early as possible, and I was already there. We had a bit of a touch and I tried not to hit him too much."

The Australian added that he had thoroughly enjoyed their dice.

"There were a lot of nice passes during the race there," said Stoner. "We were back and forward. I was trying to brake as late as I could and he was still coming past, and I'm sure it was the same for him. It was pretty much whoever got a good exit out of the previous corner was able to overtake."

aint that the truth. Plus all the Hater's would have set this board alight, like the jerez 05 pass. It's only ok if it's not rossi pulling that move
<
But just like jerez i personally think its hard but fair.

Great race because of the battles, crap race because of the crashes and bs rule on the re-start.
