Round 12 Silverstone: Practice, Qualifying, Race

Since this thread is destined to never go into retirement.

Casey Stoner Refuses Honda's Wildcard Offer - autoevolution for Mobile

Or maybe not. Perhaps stoner has taken some Q's from Keshav hiatus and is thinking of coming back.

Is Casey Stoner Planning Some Payback to Honda with Ducati? - autoevolution for Mobile

Somehow missed both of these.

My .... is fully hard now after reading both.

You know I actually was wondering what that Suzuka crash might have done with Casey and Honda's relationship because of their rush to blame him initially as being the cause of the crash. When the initial reports came out, all I could think was "Oh god how could you guys be so stupid to blame someone with as much pride as Casey?" That was such a cataclysmically bad decision if there ever was one. Even if it meant he decided to go develop for Ducati, I feel that would be very bad for Honda since there's nothing that indicates MM knows how to effectively develop yet.

Christ...seeing Stoner at Philip Island would have been well worth paying the money to fly there for 3 days and to head home just to watch him race again. But if he is seriously looking to come back, and to do it on the Desmosedici, good lord that would be the biggest middle finger we have seen since Rossi stuck his up Carmelo's ... to massage his prostate in order to get out of Ducati.

All I'm going to say is I pray this somehow comes true because can you imagine the fireworks the 2016 season will give us, especially if Rossi is the defending champion?

I feel bad for Honda brass. I cant imagine having to deal with such an over sensitive brat that percieves slights at every turn. I would love to be a fly on the wall to hear what they say about him behind closed doors. I wonder if they have a special handler who deals with him. Someone who he likes and is receptive to. His very own personal fluffer. They must live in fear during mundane conversation that they accidentally said something to offend him. It's clear he still wants to occasionally race on his own terms. He still has enough talent where he can dupe manufacturers indulge his whims. Soon enough age will steal his talent away and the manufacturers he turned his back on wont be knocking on his door any more. If he's a sad sack now think about how angry and bitter he's going to be in 5 years or so

And he beat Valentino.

Just for my interest, how does his attitude if this speculation is correct differ from MM's this year, or indeed Rossi's when he left Honda to join Yamaha?

There are no quotes in the articles, still it sounds like MM might have vetoed any chance of a Stoner fill in, not Honda. And Ducati want him back anytime, despite the 'attitude'. Do they want Rossi back, does he also have an open invite? At the end of the day wins are what they remember the most no doubt.

Also I hesitate to post, appears Stoner might think his Honda was a POS and caused him to crash. Sounds familiar. Still I doubt MM has had a stuck throttle, yet Pedro would sympathize with his leaky forks.

I am sure now the ancien regime his gone Ducati would be delighted to have Valentino back, particularly given his current form and likely contribution to the improvement of the Yamaha bike.

I am sure he sees being a Yamaha icon in his retirement like King Kenny et al in his future, however, and is going nowhere.

What makes you think I'm joking. In the history of motorsports I have never heard a manufacture apologized for a mechanical failure. If we are to believe that this was purely an unfortunate and unforeseeable mechanical failure. then why would Honda feel compelled to issue an apology. I've watched Nicky Hayden grenaded at full speed, Colin Edwards get napalmed mid corner, Spies , (well we could go on forever about his gremlins) had a catastrophic tire failure doing 180 on the Highbanks of Daytona during a Dunlop tire test. I never heard any apologies to those guys. Honda spent the entire 80s feeling up graveyard and paralysis wards due to their ...... three wheeler ATC design. Did you ever hear an apology about that. Their tiptoeing around Stoner and he still gets pissy because they want their own employee, (whose only job is to give feedback on race bikes, )to give them feedback on race bikes. The guy is three years removed from racing. He's barely relevant to HRC at this point other then for marketing purposes

Renault apologize after Red Bull draw a rare blank | Reuters

Yeah apologies do happen in motorsports from manufacturers for mechanical failures.

You'll probably see Honda do the same thing over in F1 soon since Arai is under fire from the media and McLaren. It's bad enough he may wind up sacked over the engine debacle.

Oh that reminds me, Lotus, so what was the big bruhaha in F1? I skipped over the posts because i was watching. Summarize it please.

Im not sure where to dump this thought, I suppose this thread will do since it seems the place to express anything other than the Silverstone GP.

This forum used to have an illustrious tradition of wishing its members recognition on their birthday. It was a place that even "enemies" laid down their arms for a moment of solidarity. So without further adieu,

Happy Birthday Arrabiatia1

...and L8braker and Frosty, both former members that Keshav probably ran off.

Kashav ran off l8? He's the one who introduced me to this site. He is a very very good man. More fuel for a senseless fire.

Happy birthday Arrabiatia 1 or 2 not sure which one you are. This is still the greatest post ever:

On the subject of addictions....only five emoticons Berry this time. Are you yourself finally in the process being slowly weaned away from your dependency through something like The 12 Steps Programme? Can I help?

Yes I think I probably can. Here's a poem I wrote only last week entitled 'Berry Berry' to be recited out loud in the style of Rik from the Young Ones:

Berry-Berry: by Arrabbiata1. (awl mi own werk)

Why see red Berry?

Think what you’ve said Berry!

the only skids that come to pass

are those delivered from your ...

and who the hell is Barry Machine?

what does all your posting mean?

Don't be blue Berry,

We think of you Berry

Sat in the corner all alone,

of a New South Wales Nursing home

And yes I really have to ask,

those random comments that you pass,

are the threads you spin deliberate farce?

or just the 'eight ball' up your arse

Those bales are straw berry,

Guess what they’re for Berry,

Cause if you ride like you prescribe

They’re there to save your Aussie hide

The weathers great - please look outside,

you really should go take a ride,

why not even learn to slide?

it'd be much better if you really tried

You are my elder Berry

and when you claim to back it in

we all know what you’re lacking in

the basic understanding

that it doesn’t mean a rear wheel spin!

Don't be so black Berry

just change your tack Berry,

make a friend or shag the wife,

just don't pretend you have a life

And do you really feel so great?

alone astride your 848...............

pretending that you're braking late,

but only when you ..........

Do you use a rasp Berry?

Is that in your grasp Berry?

And do you ever rear wheel steer?

Do you have Beriberi?

You really are beyond all hope

Knocking me for smoking dope

A sad and lonely misanthrope

Brillant. Always fun to reread. I think his most recent poem managed to top that one

Oh that reminds me, Lotus, so what was the big bruhaha in F1? I skipped over the posts because i was watching. Summarize it please.

Basically Honda decided to come back to F1 and partner up with McLaren in an effort to recreate the "good old days" from 1988 to 1991 as opposed to 1992 when they were sent fleeing F1 altogether when it was obvious their design theory of adding more cylinders was no longer the future as the ideal platform by 1991 was really a V10.

McLaren has been unable to attract a major sponsorship since they lost the Vodafone sponsorship in 2013, which was rumored to have a lot to do with F1/Bernie's penchant for going to places with dubious human rights records such as Bahrain. In any event, McLaren is lacking for money, and thought going with Honda and establishing what amounted to works engine supply deal would help get them back on track and help them be able to attract a deep-pocketed title sponsor.

Honda spent about 18 months designing their engine, and it was being rumored that it'd be a good engine towards the engine of last year. In fact, Honda had their reps in the paddock all last season checking things out. Problem is, apparently it never occurred to them, or they misjudged how easy the current design would be in terms of having the ICE synced up with the recovery systems, and to be able to deploy the maximum amount of power possible over the course of a given lap. So, what you have now is McLaren on pace to finish in their worst spot in the constructor's title since 1980, and they are going to lose a shitload of money as a result. Honda has no idea how to design a modern F1 engine, but are claiming things will be correct for next season, which I highly doubt. McLaren wants Arai's head on a silver platter for what happened. Arai is pretty much standing pat saying he, nor Honda will apologize. Potential fallout from this is immense since Arai could get sacked, but on the flipside Ron Dennis could wind up sacked from McLaren over this if the shareholders are not happy.

My thought is simply that McLaren has lived off what they did with Senna 25+ years ago, and have done very little since, only everyone is starry-eyed, and is incapable of seeing that. It also proves that modern F1 is a joke because of how restrictive the engine design was, so if you ...... up with your design, you are pretty much done. Mercedes was the only one who got the design right, but they also spent over $1 billion to do so. Question is, if you're Renault or Honda, are you prepared to do that? Answer is simply no. Ferrari made big strides, and are still further behind Mercedes. Mercedes sandbags, and how fast their cars are is unknown because I don't believe we have ever seen them run at 100% since the rules change.

Jesus. Ok, and why did Arrabi mention check tire pressure, did Hamilton cheat? Or much to do about nothing?

Well Mercedes was found to be under the established minimum PSI level as dictated by Pirelli.

Since Mercedes has preferred winner status currently, the stewards decided their explanation sufficed, and that rules don't really matter.

I thought the Honda thing slowly blowing up is bigger since we do see plenty of their rigid thought processes on display in MotoGP, though not as bad since they are the entire team.
