I must admit, I do miss the bridge section. I remember a WSB race in 2002 where they had closed the Luffield stands because they had huge yawning chasm like gaps in them but we invaded them anyway due to the horrendous weather. It was far worse than last Sunday and in race 1 Bayliss fell twice but remounted both times to finish an astonishing fifth. The standing water was a death trap and Hodgy testified to two wheel slides on every entrance each lap into maggots and sudden unexpected aquaplaning as the rain got worse.

I like Silverstone. As great as it may be as a viewing circuit, you really wouldn't want Doni right now as a punter, the place looks like a warzone since the Gillet consortium carved it up. "Even Brands Hatch"??!! I love Brands. It tends to produce great racing, has wonderful character and to host MotoGP would be incredible. The irreconcilable dispute over money was huge loss for the Superbike calendar.

Agree about the BRDC and the way that Silverstone is run, however were you aware that due to contractual obligation, the event last weekend was actually run by the Circuit of Wales which is why the Mayor of Monmouth amongst others was presenting the trophies. The only reason that it didn't go to Donington was that they reneged on the payment date.

I loved the bridge section. Was such a spectacular section of Silverstone. Still is incredible that they chose to get rid of it. I'm probably in a minority on this, but back when Silverstone had the old layout pre-1986 I think it was, the flat land made sense because it was a true high speed circuit. Who can forget Keke Rosberg averaging 160MPH in the Williams-Honda during qualifying in 1985. That was the essence of Silverstone to me anyway. But because speed is a bad thing, we kept getting reworkings, and while I wasn't a fan of them, they weren't too bad, till 2009. That reworking was just bad, and unnecessary. It just looks like a featureless wasteland now with all of the runoff areas, and with all of the money they spent, how they were unable to fix the standing water issue is incredible.

I hadn't realized Doni was all torn up. I guess I've got this perpetual vision frozen in my head of Doni as it was 15-20 years ago. That's really a shame as it's such a great circuit layout. Any idea on when or if they will ever fix that all up? Heh Brands Hatch is better than Silverstone for my money easily. It's such a deceptive circuit layout...looks easy until you actually run it. Paddock Bend makes or breaks a lap instantly. Plus Pilgrims Drop to Hawthorns Bend is absolutely terrifying because of trying to carry the speed into that corner.

Very cool vid of some Matra MS670's running down Pilgrims Drop from a few years back.

I think it's sort of like Laguna Seca in the sense that it's intimate, and while not a terribly long circuit in length, it is absolutely challenging in every sense that makes for great racing. Watching MM and Rossi battle around there would be magnificent...which is also why it'll never happen. ;)

Didn't realize Circuit of Wales was running the British GP. LOL that's hilarious. Have they even started digging yet, or are they just sticking to CAD digging?

Fan mail I received for an earlier post:

Dearest Kropo,

I think you should stick around. I can be a raging ......., and I fully admit that, because why deny what is true? I've certainly been what you would consider to be a detractor, but I like to think of it as positive criticism. You might disagree and find it negative. But I consider it positive because I'm trying to spur you on to be even better at what you do, and to not always buy into whatever ........ is being sold in the paddock. There's enough journalists who act as Dorna's self-appointed water fetcher's.

You certainly can bring stuff to the table which is more than I can say for Barry who only brings animals to .... in the .... And since he isn't really posting, you can be his replacement! Just roll with the punches. If you don't like what I say, or what others say, just tell us to suck on Bruce DeJennerate's (loved that one Jums) .......or something to that effect. Why fight the power when you can be part of the fun? It's more fun to go along here. That's the whole point!

Love,

JPS

I was thinking the other day how I'm wondering if Rossi and dorna are trolling us all. What if they planned this whole thing? Cause VR is the king of ....... with people, so what makes you think he isn't purposefully putting himself in the position he is in? He's on the edge of winning the championship & losing it. He is almost too calm & collected.

It's a mind .... man.

But I think Rossi is gonna win. ....... fairytale ending. And I'm going to laugh, and think how this whole season was probably an amazing joke.

I mean, I'm most likely being psycho...but it's a hilarious thought.

At least to me.

Now you're finally getting it!

Dorna does it's very best to rig things when the going gets tough for VR.

They need him to break Agostini's records because it means:

Why the .... would I want to hang around here and suffer you lot flinging .... at me and calling me a ..........?

If this were the standard of hanging around here, Willski would have left long ago. Because he really is a .......... and I have the pictures to prove it.

Donington is still useable as a track. I raced there in the first event they had in 2011 after it re-opened. They had dug up a few chunks of it but nothing major. The surrounding areas however, are a mess if I recall. Piles of dumped earth everywhere, tunnels filled in etc etc.

COW? Haha, yes it;s still a CAD drawing. The government has pledged £30m towards it which means they only need £275million more to get the budget they need. I've been reading chest beating reports in the press that 'Many automotive sectors are interested in the development' which we all know means they MIGHT build a shed or two there or use the track to test cars once it's built, but they sure as hell aren't going to cough up £275 million.

I see this going 2 ways.

1: like Clive Palmer and his "Titanic 2", we'll get a stream of press releases about how everything is on schedule until it eventually just fades out

2.: The track gets built, runs 2 or so MotoGP races then fades into obscurity and massive debt. Just like Turkey, Valencia and more.

or maybe i'm just getting brainwashed by all you conspiracy theorists...

It's not a conspiracy if it really is true Sparrows!

What Talpa said is interesting, I admit I was taking it for granted that VR would figure out a way to run nearer to the front during the race, and that it was perfectly normal.

But considering how far off the pace he has appeared in some FP sessions and even qualifying sessions, the guy magically finds nearly a half a second to a second more in the race?

That's ....... insane. I know in the normal world most people would say what is half a second? But in racing terms, I'm always amazed by how half a second feels like a minute and a second is more like an eternity.

I will admit here that I am enjoying seeing what VR will do in the races in spite of dislike for him. It's had the feeling of a giant game, and he somehow managed to reduce MM to a fast, but psychologically frail rider who cracks under pressure. I started wondering if VR had more pace in the rain than what we saw at Silverstone, but he was setting a particular pace so as to lull MM into imagining overtaking spots where in fact there really were none. Then when MM crashed out, it didn't really matter. He cruised around for a bit till Petrucci started closing the gap, and then he picked up pace just to keep the gap at 3 seconds when it looked like he easily could have run up a 5-10 second lead in no time...but there's nothing smart about taking unneeded chances in the rain. Just do what you have to do in order to win or score points, and everything will take care of itself.

If ever there was a case to hang around this space, Mdub just posted it.

Im crying here. No seriously, im laughing so hard tears are flowing.
Hahaha! O' lord Jesus.

That reminds me Kropo, Little sparrows also called me a ...........

EDIT: oops I just checked the text, she actually said suck my .....

Kropo - i don't know you, but i heard a lot about you (very nice things actually)...i walked into this forum not knowing what the .... it was going to be like. i heard you actually had a valuable opinion & was excited to see what your brought to the table...then of course, king of PS & king of ........ (jum) had to ruin it all by being a complete & utter ...... bag.

however, i later learned the jum is quite a fantastic human being (also my homie willski) – jum is still a .........but a like-able sweet .......

i like to talk ...., which i believe a lot of other guys on the forum like to do because we are all born to be ......... sooo - please join in on the fun! and just tell everyone to suck your .... like i do if they piss you off.

i don't even have one - but i still pray someday i'll grow on so i can make everyone here suck it.

Kropo, I didn't get a chance to meet MotoChick, though based on her profile pic, Im sure ive taken a pic with her sister at some point in my umbrella girls hunts; but here is an actual pic of Little Sparrows sitting next to some unidentified man with a Wales Drinking Club tshirt. As u can see, she clearly does not have a ..... But if she did, I might be inclined to suck it. Well, at very least fondle it a bit. So come on Kropo, stick around, if for any reason, to at least make .... jokes.

i look like a god damn ghost.

I don't think it had anything to do with the lack of melalin in your skin as it did when you took your fifth shot of Jameson. At that point you went all paie.

Edit to add: hence being called "light" weight.

Even the people at the Circuit of Wales don't think the Circuit of Wales is going to be built.

What is the hold up exactly?

And at what point does Dorna yank the contract and redo it with either Silverstone or another circuit?

Because Dorna would be yanking their own contract I suspect.

I'd venture to say it's all a bit complicated. But im thinking there is an illusion of money to be made. It may not make sense to us looking from afar, but it makes cents for someone. FIFA style.
