So do I.

I've got smoked ones which look quite dark from outside but let loads of light in.

Not sure why he does it, but the visors he uses in the wet are actually less tinted than in the dry.

Here are a couple of photos "borrowed" from another forum - hope you don't mind popmonkey

These are the first photos I have seen of Rossi where you have been able to see his eyes. Although his head/helmet angle always appears to be looking at the track surface through the corners, here you can actually see that his line of sight is not so different to that of other riders.

Thanks popmonkey for the excellent pix on this RideOnTwo thread

I've always found it interesting that Rossi does not look too far through the corner, rather focusing more on what's in front of him. Compare pictures of Rossi and Edwards's heads mid corner, astounding difference.

No idea about the tint. To be different/cool?

Austin, that was exactly what I found interesting about these pix from popmonkey - what I have always thought is that Rossi looked more down than forward through the corner. It may be an optical illusion based on his helmet shape/design, or it may be that Ike made him look further through the corner than usual. Normally it is impossible to tell his angle of sight, but with these pix it is clearer, for Indy during a hurricane at least.

Will keep on checking it out.

From what I am aware of the looking far ahead style is from Offroad riding, David Knight says riders always go wrong when they only look a few feet past there front wheel. You should be looking way ahead and choosing lines 20feet infront of you.
Rossi isnt from Offroad background, well maybe a little, but not like edwards or some of the others.

Yes, his visor is quite dark, MUCH darker than all the other riders/racers at Ike's Indy GP...

Yes, carrots suck....whether raw, steamed, boiled OR smoked

Now, if I can remember having read it somewhere in the past then I am sure someone else had seen it, also: in an interview, Rossi was asked about his head-down corner posture. He did, in fact (yeah, if I could only remember where...), admit to not 'looking through the corner' a la Colin, Elias, et al.
And, his reasons were quite simple---> (think heavy Italian Rossi accent), "Ahh, yes...for me, to view the end of the curve is not necessary. When I arrive to the entry, I already know where the exit will take me....so, thees allows me to view the surface of the racetrack directly in front of the bike, and I can make adjustments for maximum attack on the exit."

Okay....that wasn't his quote VERBATIM, but he did say that he watches the surface of where he is, I would imagine like 10-20 feet directly in front of himself, but only because he does know where the track will take him....thanks to the 1 million laps that they've run in practice over the years...

Anyone else remember seeing that anywhere in the past??

If you guys think Rossi's visor is tinted dark....you should see Stoner's. Reason why Stoner's is soo dark is not to shield the sun from his eyes, but to shield the viewers from his tears.

I have read this as well. It was years ago(before this forum was born) and I can't recall where.

I think the reason for the dark visor is all for looks. Every helmet looks 100% better with a dark visor.

I think it starts out as personal choice/style... but then cannot ride without a dark visor

I promise you that looking ahead is somthing you have to do a lot more in Road Racing than in offroad. Going into a turn in 200km/h you look hundreds of feet ahead.
Any instuctor will tell just how important that is, even when riding on the road.
