Rossi to retire?

I'd take it with a pinch of salt ATM.

He hasn't said anything it's just the people around him from the quote below.

Privately it is felt by Rossi’s closest friends and advisers that now is the time to retire, before any lasting damage is done either to his reputation or more worryingly, himself.

I think they have a good source in this case. The article is spot on.

I was going to say you would know.

I can't see there is anything much in it for him without a winning chance, particularly with marco's death, chronic injuries as mentioned in the article, and frequent criticism however undeserved which must be hard to handle this far into his career after so much success and so much largely deserved adulation. As mick doohan said last year it is remarkable he kept it all going for so long regardless of any of this in any case. He has also said for years that he doesn't like the way the development of the bikes has been going as well

If he does retire without getting back on a yamaha or whatever , as I have said previously the ducati interlude will be remembered as a curio at the end of his career like eddie lawson going to cagiva, and he will be remembered very kindly, probably as the goat.

Is it coincidence that this has occurred immediately after the same was said of Stoner (the arch nemesis of Rossi)?

Could this be a grab for positive attention that has been missing thus far this season?

Opens beer and sits in chair waiting

This is just another message to Ducati and DORNA.

Nothing more, nothing less.

Build me a bike I can win on, and get me back at the front, or I will pack up and .... off.

OK, karma has now kicked Rossi's ..., hard, and brought his ego down a notch, and I want to see him back battling at the front.

I would actually like to see him back on a Yam or Honda, so no one can ever say his results are because of a better of worse bike. I think Lorenzo and Stoner would fry him.

It will be one of the gloomiest and saddest day for MotoGP if Rossi retires at the end of 2012....At least he should ride a Yamaha for a year then he can quit if can't beat the three aliens...We already lost Super Sic last year. No doubt Stoner can ride the beast and a Honda, but MotoGp needs Valentino...Dorna should do something...

But why another year on yamaha? Rossi on the Ducati was meant to be the greatest thing that ever happened, he would show how Stoner was not really that good a rider .......... and that failed miserably.

I suspect another year on another brand will just be another let down for Rossi's fans.

I have no doubt Stoner is currently the best MotoGP rider who can tame that Ducati. But the fans will miss dearly Valentino with his personality and craziest ideas God only know...The track will be empty of those yellow color shirts and no 46 will be dearly missed. The atmosphera will not be the same and those crazy joes won't be running on the track after the final lap...maybe JLO fans?

I'm getting annoyed by this 'MotoGP needs Rossi' crap. It did fare great before him, and it will do so again when he is gone. And I surely won't miss the intermediate years when he turned Gp circus into a ridiculous clown circus. It was quite clear that he wouldn't be racing (bikes) until he reached 50. So if he had left in 2006, 2012, or 2015 - the post-Rossi era would have to come one day, and it's a chance for MotoGP to show that it (still) has more to offer than merely a clown.

It's just strange to read it the Telegraph first. I'd rather second Nuts' 'message' stance on this particular story.

I hope nobody here listens to marketing blah blah?

Ducati was a miscalculation by Rossi, perhaps even more by Burgess who thought he could fix it for him.

But the real point is, Rossi has hardly been recognizable after Qatar 2010. A long time.

On a Yamaha he could be 3rd or 4th, on the Ducati he can be 6th or 7th, the real issue is that he's no more fast enough to be 1st or 2nd.... Now of course Rossi's entourage or even him in person will promptly deny any idea of retirement, but if the results to the end of this season stay the same, be sure that a decision had already been taken.

On a Yamaha he could be 3rd or 4th,

Exactly ........ and that will no appease the Boppers one bit. It would probably be even more frustrating.

Anyway, he rides the Ducati like he is already retired, so who will notice

Is the retirement talk an indication that Rossi may not get a good offer and hence may be forced to retire?

Once the MotoGP Brand no longer plays second fiddle to the Rossi Brand, MotoGP will get a new lease on life. Fans will be free to support any rider they want without vilification. Sponsors will be confident to sponsor riders other than Rossi with the knowledge that the tide of politics and media won't be against their rider. Dorna will be able to leave the rules alone and let the best riders win rather than the most popular rider win. Teams and riders will be able to get retail space to sell THEIR memorabilia. Talpa and his mates will slink of into the fog of depression and never be heard of again. Journalist will be forced to do some research and apply some brain power to write articles of interest to everyone (Krop you may have some competition then). The days of a race being called boring because Rossi did not win will be over. Ducati will be able to put someone on their bike who actually wants to ride it. We will never have to watch a clown act again.

I tell you, this is a glass half full moment!

Winner!!!!

Sorry kiddies y'all were sucked in. Twitter lit up over this and after about an hour VR himself tweeted it was a BS report and he is not planning on retirement. BTW WTF looks to the Telegraph for accurate reporting - especially re MGP?

Way to jump on that Mental - have a read here, ya might learn something! http://www.superbikeplanet.com/2012/Apr/120413-1046.htm
