Nine-time World Champion has fractures fixed following enduro accident UPDATE 10:35AM CEST:
On Thursday night, Movistar Yamaha MotoGP‘s Valentino Rossi had a successful operation on the displaced fractures of the tibia and fibula of his right leg after an enduro accident the same evening.
Following a medical examination at the ’Ospedale Civile di Urbino', where he was initially diagnosed, the Italian was transported to the 'Azienda Ospedaliero-Universitaria Ospedali Riuniti' in Ancona. Upon arrival, he received surgery between 2am – 3am by Dr. Raffaele Pascarella, Director of the Orthopedics and Traumatology Division. During the surgery the fractures were fixated using a metal pin - a locked intramedullary nail - without any complications.
Further medical updates will follow in due course.
Yamaha have extended their thanks to the entire staff of the 'Ospedale Civile di Urbino' and 'Ospedali Riuniti di Ancona' for their dedication and professional care.
Valentino Rossi: "The surgery went well. This morning, when I woke up, I felt already good. I would like to thank the staff of the Ospedali Riuniti in Ancona, and in particular Doctor Pascarella who operated on me. I'm very sorry for the incident. Now I want to be back on my bike as soon as possible. I will do my best to make it happen!"
Always bad when anyone gets injured, but it'll be nice to not see utchio on for a while.
I bet he will be out for 2 or 3 races anyway and as has been said he hates the long distance ones so maybe the end of the year for him.

Oh wow... If true, season ending.. maybe more. Again, if true.
Not a fan, never want to see him win, but it does really suck when anyone gets hurt. Going to take some fun out of the races he misses.

Well, don't cancel your flights and pawn your tix (like you've done the last 2 years for Laguna) because I predict Rossi will ride at Motegi.Bummer. I may not see him in Motegi.
Though im not a doctor (neither in the Rossi sense or MikeM) surgery was one hour, that doesn't seem very long in dog years. The doctor (the real one who performed the surgery) said it would take 30-40 days before 'The Doctor' can compete. Motegi is 40 days away honey.

Broke his leg on 5/06/10, raced on 18/07/10 when he broke his leg previously.
That fracture was a potentially more serious compound fracture, although since his leathers confined the fracture the wound was uncontaminated, allowing them to primarily close the wound only a couple of days later as I recall, so it amounted to the same thing as a non-compound fracture as the current one seems to be.
No wish for any rider to be injured, and takes some intrigue from the title battle. Dirt bike riding mid season does seem like an excessive risk, and you don't bounce as well in your late 30s, although he obviously had a similar injury at age 31, that one on a motogp bike on a race week-end.
I have to say if it doesn't make him reflect on continuing it should.

There's little info and I don’t expect much detail to be revealed, but if the surgeon thought he could get back on a bike so quickly, maybe it was a mere mystery fracture.
The kind of fracture that is disputable, debatable, entertained by the sport media as having possible ulterior motives, not the least being perhaps caving into the pressure of being in championship contention. After all, nothing relieves pressure than taking a hiatus from racing mid-season because you can't hack it, as the logic goes.

Yeah, this season of GoT feels too rushed. Oh well... I can't stop watching until Cersei is killed.

Nope. My trip is locked in. If Rossi don't make it, it's a bummer but I'm not a yellow of that kind.
I'm always amazed how fast those riders heal from fractures. It's crazy.

I think it's a good thing that VR wasn't leading the championship this week. Never hear the end of how he was robbed. We would never really know the outcome had Rossi been fit to race.
