I'll never forget when he called into Mugello last time he snapped his twig. I thought I was listing to DORNA in the morning on the radio. Maybe they can barrow the pope mobile and use it as the pacecar so he can wave endlessly to his minions.

Needs to stop arseing about with dirt bikes when his job is MotoGP.

There wouldn't be a rider in the go paddock that doesn't train regularly on a dirtbike. Next time you see a slo mo of them backing it into a corner from 300k you might wonder where they hone those skills.

The commentators will be lost for words. What will they talk about now? Expect Vinales to be strong for the next couple of rounds.

I wonder if this will force him to retire?
I'm surprised he carried on enduro training after the pre mugello accident.

No matter how much .... we put on the sport's infatuation with all things Rossi incidents of this nature show his true pull within the world.

I live in the central west region of NSW and we do not get any motogp coverage anywhere with the exception of the race coverage, and even then it is not always the greatest.

This morning, on my local regional radio station, NOT part of the sports news was the report that Valentino Rossi had broken his leg.

Now, while my first thoughts were FFS, seriously ............ truth is at least it and the sport got a mention.

Now, that all said, wish the old guy well and a speedy recovery as no matter what I feel of that aforementioned sports infatuation, no rider deserves to be injured and really, the year will be poorer as now the field will not be at it's strongest possible.

Speedy recovery old man

Now to send a box of tissues to Uccio who will miss being on tv for a race or two < had to have a dig >

One hopes not as for mine, all athletes should go out when they choose in a manner in which they choose, not be forced out due to an injury (aka Doohan, Rainey and many others).

That all said of course, Rossi is not younger and age may well play a part in the healing process both physically and mentally as everything gets tougher as we grow older (was going to say harder but my wife would argue that is not the case :p )

I understand it in the off season but between rounds? It's just risking too much for me, especially as he's sitting there in the championship 26 points off the top even if it is unlikely he's got the speed to beat the younger fellas over the rest of the season.

I wonder when he will come back Aragon is 3 weeks away so that seems unlikely but then it's onto the fly aways which he already hates. I would imagine they wouldn't be fun with a healing leg.

After his accident at Mugello in 2010 he was back at Laguna - however that was a clean compound fracture of his shin bone. The Doctor ('No') is right in saying that this is nasty. A double break of both tibia and fibula. I think it's optimistic to say that we'll see him for the fly aways.

Where's Mike?

Well said. They'll suddenly be scrambling around for those positive soundbites that they always mean to say about the other riders but rarely do.

Have no fear for there will be just as much mention of Rossi, only this time with words such as 'shame', 'recovery', 'recuperation' and 'comeback'

In fact, I reckon if people played the drinking game they would be pissed by lap 5 it will be that bad

Well said. Although winning a championship will be cool for any of the current hopefuls, nobody would want to win it with one of the main players out of the running. Love him or hate him, Rossi does bring something to the grid (even if it's for me to be cheering for everyone one to challenge him). I hope he recovers soon. I'll miss the pantomime bad guy.

Yes, what am I thinking. Every win or decent performance by any other rider will have to be measured or set against 'how would things have been different if Rossi had been here'.

Sadly, as it were a few years back ............ the championship has an asterisk because Rossi was injured will again rear it increasingly ugly head in discussions (and yes, I have already seen it stated places)

Where are all those lunatics that invaded this place like Mosul in November 2015? Where are all the Rossi aficionados this season? - y'know the same ones that also oddly went missing in 2011 and 2012? What of the the hundreds upon hundreds of accounts that were spawned in the wake of Rossi's success in the mid 2000s? Where is Evolution? Where is Paparazzo/Talpa? Where is MotoVudu?

It's easy for these people to claim that this site is a Rossi haters convention but it never stopped them before and wind back the clock ten years- have the temerity to mention Stoner on here and you'd have more luck flogging bacon butties at a Bar Mitzvah. There is a sport beyond Valentino Rossi - it existed before and it will carry on after...but as I've said before, either in the absence of these one dimensional glory hunting fanatics or alongside the genuine fans of Valentino Rossi that recognise the sport before being hoodwinked a cult of 'personality'.

I agree Gaz. It's a great shame that Dovi won't be able to beat Rossi on the road this year - but the record books alongside those impartial observers nonetheless stand as this season's testimony as to which was the superior rider of the two.

I wish Valentino a rapid recovery and I sincerely hope that this doesn't compromise his competitiveness next year.

Alex Lowes drafted in by Tech 3 while Zarco deputises? More likely a token Japanese National Championship/Yam test rider - y'know, the ones that all look the same.
