Your post says it all really! Rossi is the best has-been

Aye? For some reason i just dont think that is the case. Perhaps you should read posts by those who know what they're talking about, like the people i mentioned in my previous post who see the sport for what it is and not through the tinted specs of a boner or bopper, ie, fanatic.

Without a doubt Rossi is matched if not bettered for speed by the other 3 aliens, Stoner is indeed the quickest but what Rossi lacks in speed he makes up for in race strategy..again, something the Stoner in particular seems to be improving on (if the Qatar is anything to go by). I think its funny how people are writing him off just because he aint figured out the Duc, people said the same about Stoner as well after the last couple of seasons after he kept binning it but low and behold, once he got on a bike he was comfortable on he's all of a sudden up there! It'll be the same with Rossi...

I actually agree with EVERY word you say....I was just tugging your chain and having a laugh. Unlike Talpa I am not a zealot who ignores reality.

It is indeed ridiculous to suggest someone as talented as Valentino Rossi who at 32 years of age is probably at the peak of his career...is washed up and finished as a racer....only a complete ..... would actually believe that considering the fact that Doohan, Bayliss and numerous other riders have demonstrated over history that winning is indeed possible at such a mature age or even older.

I am certainly NOT writing off Rossi and to do so is IMHO premature and fraught with danger....you only have to look to 2008/2009 as evidence to his supreme talent as a racer and motivation to win.

I do however, believe he is no longer the "definitive" top dog and his performances so far on the Ducati have not impressed me at all. Whether this is due to "the shoulder" or his capacity to ride this most enigmatic of bikes is anyones guess and only Vale really knows the answer to this question.

Personally I believe the shoulder injury is not as bad as he has been intimating and in fact is a convenient distraction from his inability thus far to get the bike up the pointy end of the field. He was a podium regular and winner at the end of last season as was Stoner towards the end of last year so to be regularly mid pack at best on a bike that was very recently winning in Stoners capable hands is a long way from where many expected he would be.....me included!

The thing is its still way too early to make any kind of proper judgement.

Two races, one in the wet.

The wet race he was very fast, yet binned it.....and the qatar race very average.

I think that some degree of time was always going to be needed, as from day one they were looking to make rather big changes to the bike.

We saw what happened in 2010, when ducati made changes to make the duc more a bit more multirider friendly.

That front end issue may still be an issue, and with the kind of changes brugess and co are making who's to say some other negatives may not creep in before real progress is made.

I always said even before rossi even got on the duc, that it was my opinion that 2011 would be a write off....simply because i think that ducati will try and pull out all the stops for 2012.

Certainly not a year i will make any judgement on rossi as a potential "has been"

If the 2012 duc isnt competing for podiums however, i may well look at things differently.

I disagree with your premise and in fact I think you have made my point for me regarding Stoners uncanny ability to be INSTANTLY fast on any bike.

Before the 2007 season began he did a race simulation in testing at Phillip Island that was completed at record pace...it certainly turned a few heads and demanded people take notice of his potential on the Ducati...and as stated this was before the season began!

Rossi in pre season testing and in races and qualifying so far has been SLOW....sorry you just cant spin it any other way! Stoner may have crashed a lot last year but he was still fast.

Sure Rossi found some pace in the wet at Jerez but his "racecraft" was dubious to say the least and lead to a mistake that took out the championship leader and pole sitter of that race...far from impressive he has so far actually looked quite ordinary.

Giving Rossi a year to get up to speed is also ridiclulous....after all isnt this the supposed GOAT? Surely if he is the greatest rider of all time he should be AT LEAST top 5...but so far 15th, 12th,7th etc etc are not the results he expects of himself let alone his fans. I can understand his fans being bewildered about this state of affairs but it is time to "fess up" and admit he hasnt lived up to expectations. The next few races if held in dry conditions will be telling....I dont want to hear any more shoulder excuses or moaning...just ride the ....... thing like it needs to be ridden! Stoner did

Great posts from Krop, Jums & Michaelm.... Everyone wants to be the best and the best has been Rossi, every sport has its yardstick.

Barry, you're letting the side down......again

How so you snot nosed time wasting Bopper?

Stoners uncanny ability to be INSTANTLY fast on any bike.

I agree with this.

However i think its important to remember that when rossi first took on the duc he was/is not only still injured, but also(and far more importantly) taking on a bike with other problems....which stoner was always complaining about himself.

I am not suggesting they are the main reasons why rossi hasnt gone instantly fast, because thats just pure stoner.....but they have to be considered.

Sorry about the double posts, my internet keeps bloody freezing lol.

Its not the internet "freezing" up buddy. Its your brain. Frozen solid block of yellow ice.

Yet the fully fit Valentino Rossi at 28 years of age wouldn't have even scored a podium on the 2007 Ducati in 2007????

Backpedal Much! 'Complete' is not encompassing enough.....This takes you to all new level of idiocy.....Some ignore reality, whilst other don't know what it is! You most definitely fall into the latter.

9WC's.....count them

Stupid question ......... of course he wouldn't,and Rossi now knows that.

Why would you even ask such a question ?
<

stupid answer

somewhat like the hailwood situation, where he couldn't go faster onboard a perceived easier bike to ride

Fact: Not only didn't a fully fit Valentino Rossi win at Qatar on the best handling bike in 2007 but he didn't win the title either. What's your point?
