rd2 jerez... picks & qualifying

QUOTE (OahuGrown @ Apr 30 2010, 09:54 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Well Nicky did say his weak point was how slow he would start the race weekend. FP and Qual are normally total crap, but his race laps were pretty on spot with the lead... Being more comfortable on the bike, and having some background set up information from last year, I think we'll see a Nicky of old back on the track... I deffinently have much higher hopes this year
<
.

My thoughts exactly. Nicky says his biggest weakness is a slow start that causes him to scramble all weekend. He looks good right now. As long as he can make decent use of the soft compounds during qualifying, he should have a good weekend.

He really looks like he knows how to ride an 800 with the wheels in line. I know he's lost a lot of weight, but he also looks like he spent the entire winter riding some left over Aprilia GP 250s.

Only grey cloud on the horizon for Nicky is his poor pace in the final hairpin. He's losing quite a bit of time there, the same way he lost a lot of time in the final bend at Qatar.

Wow, what BS. Toby and Jules said Honda are testing an entirely new engine to address the mechanical problems with the RC212V lump
<

They can't afford to redesign the engines?

Wouldn't it be something if he finally figures out this ........ 800, then guess what, we're on 1Ks now.

The penalty is to start at the back of the grid. So its not the end of the world.

No. Just the end of Australia
<

I think Crashy Stoner may be back. Too many front tucks lately.

That may be true, he trashed Honda in his rookie year saying the bike was crap and cost Honda millions. We will see.

I don't remember who the genius was that said he doesn't consider Spies a rookie to the series, but I was wondering if that person could tell me the number of laps Spies has had at Jerez vs the laps the other rookies have at the circuit.

Wow, I'm really impressed with Hayden. Just wondering when I can stop holding my breath for him and start thinking he is back for good. Doing well at Jerez seems like a huge step to me and being fast out of the gate is big. If you count the end of last year and the pre season tests he has been fantastic but the last 3 years had forced me to start thinking he might be more of a top 6 guy than a top 2 like I always thought/hoped he was. It would be sweet to see him on the podium at a non ducati track.
I havent been paying too much attention to the satellite ducati's but it doesn't seem like they have made nearly as big a leap as Hayden this year. Specifically Kalio since this is also his second year on the bike. Nick seems to keep reiterating in all the interviews that yes the engine is a little better but he thinks it's more down to him working with the team and having more time on the bike. Knowing that Hayden is usually pretty modest about giving the team credit and will never say anything bad about the factory. I take his comments to mean yeah the bikes a little better but the Duc is still a long way from easy to ride and the biggest improvement has been him.

Are you calling J4no out?

The best sign so far is 6 tenths between the top five, could be a good one. Rossi said his rear grip issues were slowing him up more than the shoulder.

Could be a Spanish affair today, cs has now binned it way more than I'm sure the team is happy with, and I predict another for the race, but hey they have Nicky now......

Very subtle there Sacky.

Hahaha. Honestly I couldn't remember. But yeah, I guess I'm calling him out now that you mention it.

I think we take it for granted that Spies has the daunting challenge of learning a track while competing at a high level. I read his post practice comments, and I gotta say...be afraid, be very afraid.

You could tell that he was excited, thats pretty rare with Ben. Maybe it's the atmosphere or just the mere fact that he is getting back out on track in the premier league. But yeah, I think it would have to be something big to get Ben excited. I think that he can find another second but I don't see him matching Casey's pace. He needs to spend a good time tomorrow practicing on his soft tire so he doesn't go into qualifying blind like in Qatar.

He also needs to throw a stick in Esparagus' front spoke

im not sure about the 800 thing but i think hes turned a corner as ducati have now finished there "project" , there was alot of changes going on with the bike in 09 but now its complete i think nicky will settle.
i think last years data will play a small part but i think most of it is to do with ducati completing there new machine, they were looking to make the bike more ridable and i think its paid off.
stoner has been around all along with the bike and i feel nicky was kinda dropped in the deepend with the bike going through so many changes.
now they have picked the best combination of things nicky is getting settled and feels confident on the new bike.

ducati's pakage is looking strong and more useable that can only be good for the racing.

Where did you see the interview? I didn't see anything on MGP site. Do tell!

1. Rossi
2. Lorenzo
3. Spies
4. Dovi
5. The midget(and I'm giving him a shadow of doubt)

Speaking of genius, while it's not the end of world it certainly would mean the end of his title chase. Unless he gets some Steve Bradbury luck at each round......

I hope that Ducati gets around to making the other carbon swing arm for Hayden and then passes the parts to Pramac. I would like to see Kallio/Espargaro on the carbon swing arm.

Good, great for Nicky. I hope that this bodes for a excellent season for him. He is still not as fast as Stoner but he is no in the hunt for a podium this year other than PI, IND or Laguna

I would never have guessed you would call 'genius' anybody but yourself, Yum-yum. Even with sarcasm

Spies is great, rookie or not rookie. His degree of 'rookieness' depends on what you want to consider. If you consider the knowledge of the tracks, then according to this it would be the others, like Aoyama or Simoncelli who are not real rookies. Whatever. It's the way you want it.
