Its to do with culture and the fact Americans haven't got one. To compensate this they take things from other country's and cultures , .......ise it then call it there own. This is because its a very young country, .... there are houses in my town that people still live in that are older than your country. Take Mr Hunters (kesh) home city of New york for an example. They swan about telling everyone their Irish haha, i bet few have ever been out their state let alone to Ireland. They march down the street in full Tartan with kilts playing the bag pipes and a green clover leaf drinking Guinness saying "top of the mornin to ya".  Maybe they think Scotland is in Ireland ? When they have things like this that ...... up i'm not surprised the U in colour went missing.

Yeah, we ain't go no cultcha.

Beastie Boys?  Wrong thread. We have the 'worst and most overrated acts of all time' thread going in the Lounge.

.... you Chopper. You Brits are lacking.

We started the Hari Krisnas right here in NYC.

We got the #1 brainwash cult in the world.

Insert hackneyed phrase containing:

<name of former colony>, culture, only, yoghurt.

Kes you forgot Thoreau.

Say what you want about American culture, they've got the best authors this side of Russia. And may even have the Ruskies on that one. Maybe.

pff, so much nationalistic pride and still such a crappy motorway network on both sides.

Not true, go ride  Washington, Oregon, California and Arizona secondaries, beautiful highways in that country :)

My old flat in Bath was older than any building in NZ... I got nothing to bring to this game of one-upmanship.

......' hell - I saw this yesterday and immediately thought Roger De Courcey - just didn't reckon anyone would have the faintest idea what the .... I was talking about. Fortunately as ever I can rely on my Caledonian cousin!

Pete, I'm still laughing about Sternly Archer gears! I had a ridiculously titled Raleigh Hustler which my parents bought second hand for my Birthday. I wanted a 'racer' but was crushed because when it was unveilled it didn't have derailleurs - everyone else had ten speed Schimano's. Complete laughing stock, but it actually turned out to be one of the best bicycles I ever had once I'd stuck the obligatory bull horns on it. The Sternly Archers had a nasty habit of going into slip gear and flinging you over the handlebars though.

No problem with the Beastie Boys. Not so sure about Walt Whitman.

Thank you Barry - more that we don't rely on Google or Wikki, rather memory unlike some. Granted, it gets a bit hazy from time to time.

On the subject of spelling - surely it's poms?

You should .......  you may get things right!!
