Don't worry 22, he'll have some moronic reply for you followed up with his idiot hashtag #lookatmewhenimtalkintoyouson

Don't you know, it's different when it's Rossi...everyone is out to get him bro...especially the people here.

Interesting how one incident can precipitate such diametrically opposing viewpoints...
.

This was an excellent thread with fantastic takes, by people who really made this form smart...except for two members spewing crap, Talpa and ME. Jesus my contributions are cringe worthy.

In my defense (actually it's indefensible) but perhaps a glimpse into my emotional post, I've often felt Wayne Bubba Shobert was the next great world champion that was snuffed of his career because a rider lolligagged on the race line. I do honestly still believe he would have been a Roberts, Rainey, Spencer, Lawson of his time. No, im not exaggerating, ask or look up what people thought of him. Depuniet's loitering on the track brought up those thoughts at the time of posting. Regardless I sounded like a moron.

Anyway, I was wrong to throw the book at Randy while not condemning Stoner more. I thought Stoner said it best when he agreed to the fine saying it was money well spent if it meant it got Race Direction's attention. So, i was sorts right that Race Direction were weak.

However, can you imagine if Race Direction would do what Talpa called for today? Hahaha AH the irony.

Anyway Arrabi, thanks for memory lane. Its added more perspective to me. Also, bro, how awesome was this forum back in the day?

You know what is funny Jum, is how Talps accuses the forum of taking on an anti-Rossi slant, even though when I look through old posts, the pro-Rossi slant this place had was nauseating.

Meanwhile he ignores the hate he had for Stoner all those years.

"Do as I say, not as I do."

Completely agree with this. I thought it was a great touch when Nicky wore a tribute lid at Laguna 2006. In fact bar the fact that he won the race, that's my abiding memory...bar the freak heatwave and the wonderful hotel I stayed at in Pacific Grove.

Anyone see the Yamaha press release? No kick, no physical violence, completely different. But good try Arrib, pointless but good try. Backfiring a bit when you look at the opposing views now

Where is the Yamaha press release thread?

Where is the Jorge trying to get involved with the CAS appeal thread?

Rossi haters club mission statement.

How are you today ....?

Let's see, pointing out ridiculous behavior on track by Casey Stoner or accusing forum members of domestic violence, I'd say you've won hands down on the .... stakes.

BTW stoner has been retired for 3 years now otherwise we'd be talking about him, oh wait we are! Forgot this is the Rossi haters club. Would you like me to bring back the Stoner commentary? I'm happy to ignore him, seems you aren't.

Funny thing was I apologized, everyone else was okay with it except you. Instead you launched into this endless diatribe. You want to play that game? Fine with me.

Got anything original to say, or are you still acting as Valentino's self-appointed cum dumpster?

This place was pro-Rossi for years. Go back and look at previous years. Non-Rossi fans were a distinct minority.

Must still burn knowing VR couldn't even win a single race on the Ducati.

Then he ran away like a little bitch begging Daddy Carmelo to get him back to Yamaha.

It is ironic. So many old regulars (I've lost count) who were rational Rossi fans ala Curve), who we haven't heard from in years, have returned to put in their two cents when Rossi pulled his biggest boner. I used to be a serious Rossi hater, but slowly over the years - I grew to admire him, tho still laughed at his hubris when he spat the dummy over Lorenzo being Rider # 1 and then the resulting idiotic idiotic detour and wasted years at Ducati. I figure his time in Ducatic Purgatory was punishment enough for much of the crap I'd derided him for. I was actually rooting for him. I actually thought he'd learned some humility. Hah!

Such a sea change here in that there are now so many Stoner fans (tho MichaelM seems to be on the fence these days) and now that Rossi has been such an ass, and ruined what should have been the best season in a decade, he's lost so much support from so many former staunch fans.

In the event.... I really hope some of the old timers will stick around a while. Conversely can't wait to see 98% of the maniac noobs disappear. We need to have the "Ignore" button returned here.

Yamaha are simply saying the same as Honda...a statement based without proof. So neither is 100% right.

It's not Rossi haters, I for one agree with your criticism of Stoner in the original post. However, you cannot criticise Stoner then absolve Rossi of criticism for doing something arguably worse.

I must confess to being somewhat bemused. 'Good try'? - I'm not with you Talpa. I was browsing back through the archives trying to find something from the same year and I spotted this - the title of which seemed quite apt. We've already brought up parallels to this incident so there was no need to resurrect it for any other reason that the title and some of the old members present. Furthermore, I was impervious to the fact that you had started the thread although I do recall your outrage at the time.

There will always be 'opposing views' Talps, but just because your affinities lie with that camp it should not automatically and uncritically make them absolute or right to you, no matter what level of affirmation you seek. In the words of Wilde, 'truth is rarely pure and is never simple'. Why does everything have to be so contrary, so confrontational, polarised and tribal? Why does this obsessional, fanatical fandom compromise objectivity? The hysterical reaction since Sepang, the confirmation bias and the levels of cognitive dissonance by the disciples of what is indeed tantamount to a cult - desperate to accommodate vindication for Valentino's actions, would make Festinger himself spin uncontrollably in his grave. As I have maintained for years now, Valentino is bigger than MotoGP and that's not a healthy situation for either the sport - or evidently his 'fanbase'. Look no further than Evolution's asinine comments and the deranged members that have signed up over the last fortnight which epitomise Rossimania - (and it is precisely that, manic).

As a complete neutral, neither a 'fan' of Rossi or Marquez, but someone who cares passionately about this sport and marvels at the talent of all its participants, my opinion seems to differ to yours. Marquez was agressive, but within the rules. We've seen Vale do precisely the same. Marquez is not a title protagonist, but he was racing possibly the champion elect. Again we've seen Vale do the same - and we've heard him defend his actions, so let's immediately dispense with that 'Laverty's Law' ......... There's often a reason that things remain 'unwritten'.

'No kick, no physical violence' - I disagree with you. I don't believe he ran Marquez wide to take him down, but when they made contact, as I saw it, he irritably lashed out. Neither you or I will ever definitively know what was occurring in Valentino's head - and I would urge you not to draw conclusions from the P/R platitudes and spin echoing from the Yamaha camp. For a character so historically disingenuous and insincere as Valentino, it was exceedingly difficult to disguise his culpability in Parc Ferme. He was subdued, very coy, and elected to be interviewed with his sunglasses on. He knew what he'd done and he knew what lay ahead - just as he possibly regretted his undignified comments in the Thursday press conference. The fact that he wasn't black flagged was a travesty and further confirmation of the preferential treatment that has always favoured him for the large part of his career.

Finally, since you evidently started this thread, re-acquaint yourself with the fury and evident loathing that you directed over an internet racing forum at Casey Stoner. Had this been Casey or Marc that had precisely followed the actions that we saw from Valentino and had succeeded in putting Rossi on the deck your rage would be so incandescent you wouldn't need an internet connection. Moreover, you and your ilk would be forensically dissecting this through a gazillion posts, hundreds of threads and arguing the case for your deity from a diametrically opposite viewpoint. You certainly wouldn't be claiming 'no kick no physical violence' because your viewpoint is subjectively skewed. Meanwhile, the rider that had brought Rossi down - either hypothetically Marc or Casey and their families would now be under 24 hour armed guard and police protection. And this damn petition - is as ludicrous as it is disturbing.

Your Rossi bias always been immeasurable Talps, but irrespective of that you are as valuable a member of this forum as anyone else and a presence that I am particularly appreciative of. It was not my intention to deliberately spite you or to be facetious in anyway. And you are wrong, this wasn't 'pointless'...nothing Roo ever posted on this forum was 'pointless.'

A little disturbing for me, despite Kesh's previous post I was and continue to be an absolute Stoner fanboy, but despite having less emotional investment in the current riders I fear my posts were more measured then.

I never blamed Rossi for the persecution of Stoner, and attributed it to both some of Rossi's fans being crazy and Stoner's personality (with which I obviously had no problem) being something of an acquired taste.

MM is no angel, but this naked mobilisation of everything including his fan base against him by VR in that Thursday press conference was unseemly, and from motives unfathomable to me, given VR's legacy was unchallengeable far more than a decade ago, and was only going to be increased by last year's return to form and even more so by his performance this year, win or lose.

Absolutely just being playful in light of your admirable objectivity regarding Stoner - in contrast to the blindered mindlessness exhibited by some of the more frothy-mouthed Rossi fans who're incapable of acknowledging any fault whatsoever in Vale. As a giant Stone supporter - I have been loathe to see fault in much of anything he ever did.
Cheers,
K

I think you're being far more generous to VR than you ought to be Mike.

The thing that's particular disingenuous with VR is that he has a tendency to subtly, put things out there in such a way, his fanbase runs with it for the goal line undeterred. He's no doubt aware of this ripple effect that he causes with various things he says.

It's sort of reminiscent of the great Mickey Mantle who would go into a bar with his teammates during his playing days. The Mick had the gift of being able to say things to people, that wouldn't necessarily register right away. He'd slip out of the bar unnoticed, and that would leave his teammates like Billy Martin in a spot where they would get in huge brawls over something the Mick would have instigated.

VR knew exactly what the fallout would be on MM when he went into that monologue at Sepang, and if this was a guy who cared one bit about decency and treating opponents fairly, he never would have said any of that because of what it created for MM. Following it up with his approach going towards turn 14, pretty much was the bomb exploding.

This is why I said in another topic, he could easily make a verbal statement to the press stating that, "This incident is between myself, Marc, and MotoGP. I appreciate the passion of my fans, and the fans at large, but the behavior and threats to Marc needs to stop. It does not represent who I am, and it's not how I want things to be remembered." Granted I'd have a better chance of drawing blood from a stone, point is, he set this in motion, and could do a great deal to balance things.

He opts not to.

He could have done this with Stoner, Lorenzo, Gibernau, and Biaggi.

He did nothing which is in my mind was tacit approval to the fans to continue doing their thing.

The Italian guys in the pizza place by me I know asked me the other night, "Hey why don't you like Valentino?"

I replied, "He's two-faced."

One of them looks at me, and said something I didn't expect, "Yes he really is."

The reason Valle doesn't take those options is because a. it's not to his advantage and b. He's not obliged to by the regulations of the sport.

I'm hoping that this will change because, if it doesn't, the sponsorship base will collapse and MotoGP will wither away.

Very true. Ironic then, that his fans direct such hate and blame on Marc Marquez for not letting Rossi past in Sepang, when he is not obliged to by the regulations of the sport.

In another era of racing, guys didn't engage in this kind of .... behavior because it wasn't good for the sport to be out there committing character assassination on a yearly basis. Mind you, plenty of guys did not like each other, but they had the decency to keep their mouths shut and act like adults.

Rossi has made his fortune so he no longer has financial skin in the game. So there's no natural self-interest damper to constrain things. And he has the power to wield as he sees fit. That's a perfect storm and it can't be allowed to continue. Criticising RD decisions like Lorenzo did should also be nailed down tight.
