Phillip Island RACE

Shame about Toseland, it would be good to see him go out on a high.

Tough luck for Bradley in the 125s, but I look forward to seeing him in the big class one day.

Simoncelli has done well to put himself in the championship position he's in after how his defending season started.

Casey said "I,ll be back" and surely he was......

or did Arnold Schwarzenegger say it??

anyway..........same result!

Great race by cs + vr . Concur with Gazs thoughts. Caseys slides through southern loop were amazing and valentino joined the show later. CS last lap through there was an amazing slide- watch it again........amazing throttle control (Traction control? Pahhhh!)

I agree that Nicky has had more bad luck than you could imagine. Its got to improve sometime.

Had big hopes for todays race but a bit of an anti-climax now that Chupa has effectively handed the title to Rossi.

Fair play to Jorge tho - holding his hands up and apologising when he knows he's in the wrong. I love all the cocky LORENZO LAND stuff but he's man enough to do the right thing when he has to. Top Bloke in my opinion.

I really hope he gets to beat Rossi to a title (I know, I know) BEFORE Rossi retires and just hands the crown to him. He deserves to be able to say - I beat the GOAT fair n square.

anyway, back to the race......

Stoner & Rossi drifting in almost perfect unison made up for the early disapointment.

Think Rossi thought about putting a move on Stoner once or twice but I doubt he could have put a gap into Stoner even if he had managed to get past.

Peders did well to get a podium spot after yesterdays spill

Edwards - solid again

Haystacks - how much bad luck does one guy need ?

Toseland - oh dear

Chupa should play cool today. Get some point and bring the championship to Valencia. But he blew it. No one can stop Rossi now.

So sorry for Nicky..

nearly a ....... dive on the inside by rossi ended both thier races. he tried, luckily he was too far back and only screwed himself up

I was watching from a boat a mile out to sea through binoculas and could see that they have removed the twist grip from Stoners bike and replaced it with a light switch so he can get to full throttle quicker. Amazing how they have refined the TC to handle the immediate power. I heard Stoner say (also from the boat by cupping my hands around my ears) that they had set the TC up to allow the rear to slide out 9.25 inches in turn 3!

Well, Pinky is way way above of course but I remember the situation and I think that's where Rossi's thougts about a win suddenly stoped. The move was not good and I guess he had to push the front a bit harder on the brakes than he liked. Reminded him about the risks and showed him how hard he would have to push to take over and win this race. He did close the gap again but never relly tried to pass again, not even a sniff on the inside.
Btw. the move can be done good and with the 990s we saw Rossi pass there on many occations. I guess the 800's lack a bit of grunt to accelerate hard in between 1 and 2.

Fantastic show by Stoner first of all.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Jumkie @ Oct 18 2009, 11:09 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>Not much to discuss really. Lorenzo blew the start, got passed by both Ducatis, then tried to make it up in great haste and torpedoed Hayden. end of. (That is until you get your inevitable Puig type member in here saying it was Hayden's fault: Supershit, Pinky, etc.)
It seemed to me Lorenzo was surprised by Kallio passing him at his right side and instinctively turned the bike a bit left going into hayden's line

The Stoner and Rossi show!!, Nice stuff, bit of show-boating is always nice to see!! And as for Gorgeous Jorge and his Kamikazi move?? Need i say more?, Nicky should change his number to 13!! Overall, good tactical result for Rossi, and welcome back the "real" Casey!

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (eltoro @ Oct 18 2009, 08:12 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>He must have "Crash into me!" written on his leathers somewhere, poor dude.

Either that or he just rides too damn slow! But seriously, it seems Lorenzo just failed to anticipate how early Nicky was going to brake. As a fan (currently in a very bad mood) i find it really comforting to read Lorenzo's post race comments after days like this. His approach and attitude are a model of how to stay strong and be sporting when its called for. Good stuff Jorge, and ultimately nothing lost

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (TP70 @ Oct 18 2009, 08:55 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>I honestly believe Rossi loves racing Stoner in these types of races more than he does Lorenzo. Certainly haven't seen him so happy after coming second in a long while.

I noticed that, but recently Rossi seems to have taken a leaf out of Lorenzo's book and is celebrating bigger for significant results (like competitors DNF's). Either its a concous thing and hes trying to rub it in all he can, or its a reflection of how desperate he is to come out on top and how uncomfortable the competition is making him now its close. Either way, we've never seen Rossi ride for points before this year. Great race from him, but i think Stoner was gonna win it at all costs. He was on fire.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Jumkie @ Oct 18 2009, 09:03 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>Well I'm a Hayden fanatic, and though it was a mistake by Lorenzo, I really can't blame the guy too much for trying because he 'had' a championship to fight for. It looks like he just lost it for a moment and ran into Hayden in a moment of haste. Everybody knows races/championships cannot be won on turn one, but that doesn't seem to stop people from trying. It sucks, and you have no idea how pissed I got. The thing that passes through my mind is all the moments we don't see of them stressing and struggles on a click here and there in practice set-ups, the hours of wrenching, the time spent examining the telemetry, the recovering from practice crashes, all the determination and hard work the travel, etc., then moments after the start all that hard work is over because of somebody else. I feel like Nicky's career after 06 has been a disaster of bad luck.

Perhaps V can tell us how many times Nicky's been crashed into and compare it to other riders taken out in the last 4 years. I would be willing to bet Nicky tops the list. Really, I blame universal balance.

I just hope Lorenzo acknowledges fault, apologizes, and we can move on. Its the folks that, like Kallio who blamed Melandri when he hit him from behind that get on my nerves. I will wait to see what Lorenzo says.

EDIT:

This is how a man behaves. Take note other riders. This is why Lorenzo deserves the fans that have jumped ship lately.
<
I can't believe I'm gonna say this, but even though he took out Nicky (and believe me, had you heard me when it happened, you would have thought somebody had stolen my bike, I was ....... furious) but Lorenzo's comments go a long way in making me a fan.

(take note peders, takacrashi, krashio, defagules.)

Not much option other than to admit his error imo, but plenty of others have not done so in similar circumstances as you say, and credit to him particularly when he must be bitterly disappointed.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Gaz @ Oct 18 2009, 05:40 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>You have taken it exactly as I meant, many will see something in it that was not there and as you post of JL's comments indicate - man, what a class act he has shown himself to be.

Now, an aside.

Do you reckon Hayden needs to approach Target for sponsorship as he seems to already be carrying their logo on his leathers.

nice one!

Interesting enough I found this transcript between Nicky and satan.

"Hey satan whats up?"

"not much just trying to keep it hot in here."

"So about this 2006 title, do you think you can help me out?"

"sure I can, just sign here and the title is all yours."

"Well alright! Oh hey satan this won't have any effect on the rest of my career will it?"

"no, no, no of course not noooo."

" Well golly thanks lord of darkness, y'all come back now ya here!'

"well alright nicky, toodles!"

Jumkie, you should have stuck a stake through satans heart when you had the chance.

when peeps say "the 800's" i think thats just to general. the 800's have had 3 years of development now so i would imagine are quite different from the beginning when such statements were made. Same as the "so stoner uses the most tc" comments here ive read. bikes ,rider styles, electronics all change from season to season.
