Not to draw too fine a line - but with Mamola and Edwards I'm thinking it was talent.
That .... on the Kawi looked like pure dumb luck. That was Hacking?

Luck and skill is pretty hard to differentiate mid crash imho
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Austin @ Oct 22 2009, 07:14 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>And examples of these uber-successful GP refugees are? Biaggi has had a few wins, but has proven to be no more successful than he was in Grand Prix. Barros couldn't even secure a top ride in WSBK. Checa has been about as successful as he was when he rode a Marlboro Yamaha, and he's had two seasons with a Ten Kate Honda. The MotoGP refugees are getting paychecks riding in WSBK because of their pedigree. Having former MotoGP riders raises the profile of WSBK and the teams that employ them. Sponsorship money. That's why there is such a demand for former MotoGP riders. It has nothing to do with talent. That's why many of these refugees get their factory WSBK ride for a season or two and then ultimately get relegated to satellite teams.
MotoGP is home to the top handful of riders, the top engineers, top techs, the fastest and most advanced motorcycles in the world. No argument about that. However, after that top handful of riders, I think you'll find that there isn't a massive chasm between rider talent as you infer.
Great post Austin

Actually - truth to tell... I hadn't realized
it was Xaus. You've un-done my denial. That being said... he's crashing.
I was at WSBK Laguna 2002 when Xuas somehow crashed TWICE on the warmup lap in race 2. As I remember at turn 4 and the corkscrew.I also remember him flinging it away doing a burnout on his victory lap somewhere.
Regarding Corser, he won the WSBk title on a Ducati - (I think it was 96), and disasterously moved to GP the following year.
Have seen that one of yours a few times though and luck comes to mind greatly, seem to recall another as well and will try to find it plus was it Thomas Luthi last year somewhere?
EDIT: Found this longer version of the Hacking near crash with an interview and podium chat

Sorry bros, I have no idea where the hell I got it from… You know, one of those zillion e-mails or something! Cannot remember from where, but as the topic got I recalled having it. Sorry again!
