Brits can get away with calling Texans "yanks" b/c Brits live all alone on an island that is sealed off from the rest of the universe, but you have no excuses.

Derogatory names like "yank" are reserved for the people who live east of the Mississippi and north of the Mason-Dixon.
Isn't spies from california or something originally? I have never figured whether california fits into that american scheme of things.

I guess he has voted with his feet though, and might well object to being called a yankee
<
.

EDIT
I looked it up; apparently born in tennessee, so very definitely not a yank.

That is correct, born in Memphis Tn. All of us in the Volunteer State can call him our own.

I have to say that SBK was great. Spies is fast, always knew it, now he's proving it. Good to see a yank go across the pond and kick some .... Anybody that can take that kind of pressure and keep his cool is a hell of a rider in my book. I think yamaha made the right desision on him and I belive they saw his potitial in GP and signed him for SBK. Also, where the hell was the other yamaha ???

I'm assuming with a handle name like yours you "... live east of the Mississippi and north of the Mason-Dixon."

Or are you a new alias of Pinky, which is the first thing I though about with the visual that 1-quick-yank brought to mind. What exactly are you yanking on so quickly?

Welcome to the forum.

You know it's painful to cheer for him knowing he's from Texas, right?
<
I'm well north of the Mason Dixon and the Mississippi runs right through here, depending on time of day I could be on the west or east side. I've been called yank many times, can't say it offends me.

Simple. We are the MOST productive, progressive, affluent, cultured, State; plus perfect weather year around coupled with stunning and diverse natural features means we are the jewel State of the Union. Our weather and geography means you can take a canyon ride (or drive) to the ski slopes in the morning, then go down and have lunch with the most famous and powerful people on Earth, on your way to the beach for surfing and sunshine as a perfect sunset brings in the best night life in the country, all in a day...every day!

Everybody else wishes they were California.

Does that explain it?

Sorry, the term is, "there are two kinds of people, Scots, and those that wish they were."

Everybody likes to think their home state is the ...., but that is spin at its best.I will give you the weather, nature etc : Productive your not, if you look at the states bottom line.As a matter of fact,California is the major player in the world economy melt down and is ALWAYS in financial crisis. There is a lot to like about California but obviously there is plenty to dislike, since it is one of the few,if not the only state, that has had more people move out, than in, 4 years running. Those people are running from something and generally speaking, people dont voluntarily abandon Utopia.

Sorry, there are two types of people: Those born in Texas and those who get here as fast as they can.

BTW, Californians are the people willing to surrender everything to buy sunshine (a free commodity) then they try to force the rest of us to pay their bill
<

Apologies to any good Californians who haven't left yet.

I'm not buying sunshine, I'm buying someone elses free ride. Something that you are now doing too and you can't do .... about it. Thanks for supprting the Golden State.

You know what's funny? I used to work as a research assistant in another life, and one of the most interesting requests I had from one of my economics professors was to find the ratio of Federal tax flows by state.

I love to rail on California for being fiscally irresponsible, but California actually gets looted by Uncle Sam year after year.

http://www.taxfoundation.org/files/sr139.pdf

Notice anything interesting about this map. The ten states who get bent over, ....., and utterly .....-slapped by the federal government are the people who vote for big government over and over again.

When will the libs see the light? All of the money they are paying for these socialist programs is being used to make everyone else happy. States-rights would actually see California balance its budget overnight! The streets would be paved with gold!

But no, they would rather be socialists
<

Look at Jersey. One of the filthiest liberal states of all and yet they vote for the giant government that sucks 60 billion dollars out of their state every year.
<
I'm so glad the federal government will save them.

Heh. By powerful who do you mean? Ryan Seacrest isn't powerful unless you're a 13 year old girl. Anyway I love California, but I'm not very proud of its politics and like mylexicon was going for, it could easily be corrected but most of its people are delusional..

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Jumkie @ Mar 3 2009, 12:50 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>You think so? Here in the States, teams keep track of the best true privateers. They are the ones that finish mid pack, but then are promoted to satellites or factories when they show that they can beat the other privateer efforts with similar equipment. I'd think they wouldn't be wasting their time at all.

Your're right. "Waste of time" is a bit too harsh. To a certain degree it's the same way in WSBK with privateers and that way it's not a waste of time, but mid pack are considered good, podium is considered out of reach. Besides, you hardly find true privateers in WSBK, except from the odd national wildcards. The Ducaties and Hondas all have more or less factory support, except from the Stiggy bikes.

All Texas rider's should get Tornado call signs. Spies nickname should be "F5". Colin can be "F4"
<

Poor Colin. Actually, Spies has a ways to go before he'll catch Colin.

Anthony Gobert did it in 1994 on a kawasaki he'd basically never ridden before. Pole, a first and a third.
