I'm flattered.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE <div class='quotemain'>Then why don't you just put Rossi to one of your favorite rider ? Give us the truth !

Because he's not my utmost favourite. Apart from JT I'm fairly neutral with some bias towards other Yamaha and Ducati riders.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (phleg @ Jun 1 2008, 09:07 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>Oh yes I remember. Being a fan means I'm not allowed to be critical at any time of my preferred riders .

Absolutely

Being a fan of a rider often means opinions are formed with little consideration of actual performance, essentially prejudice.

Being a fan of the sport usually means the events taking place are observed with great interest, but outcomes which are not necessarily favourable are still appreciated.

Just back from Mugello, what a Sunday
<

The 125 race was actually the best, probably the closest race in a very long time.
<

The 250 was nice but stained by the last lap episode. Time they begin enforcing the exisiting rules (there is a specific rule forbidding abrupt changes of direction down the straights already, AFAIK, but it has never been enforced).
<

The MotoGP race - as usual - was really exciting for the first few laps, then settled down to a fairly "tame" pace competition.
<

This is the new 800cc era - we saw it coming, what to do. Rossi did not take that long to learn the new deal from Stoner and has now perfectly adapted both his bike and his style to it.
He may now be even better at Stoner's 800cc game, than Stoner himself...
<

Apart from these considerations, Valentino Rossi is the King of Mugello. His pass on Stoner at the Casanova-Savelli was worth waking up at 3, riding to Mugello, park 2 kms away from the place and then walk the distance and sit there since 6.30 a.m.

You lucky swine Jarno!

I would have rather it be a close close battle between Rossi, Casey and Dani than how it went down. Nobody likes to see a rider run away with a race. It make last year boring to watch when Casey did it, it's not much more fun when Rossi does it.

Shame about jorge. I actually became a fan of his in this race because he said the crash was his fault. Major props for the iron man because of that.

Great win by Valentino. He never looked like being beaten. He is certainly dominating at the moment.
Good to see Casey getting on well with the Ducati again. He will win a few more racs this season.
Dani just doesn't look like a champion to me. Good solid race though.
Lorenzo needs to stop crashing. He'll end up turning into dePuniet!
Kawasaki need a magic wand. The post race quotes from their riders show there are high levels of frustration at team "...." green!
Loris rode well ... he wasn't happy though!
I won't mention Marco!

I don't see Dani as a champion either. I just can't see him beating Valentino over the course of the season. Not the way Valentino is looking at the moment. I think Casey will beat Dani at the end, or atleast be very close.

well done to vale for his dominant win, he certainly showed them how its done.

but if thats how its got to be in the 800cc era, then someone shoot ezy and quick. the biggest highlight for me was wondering if brad pitt was going to get whiplash watching the bikes whizz past the "pitts"..
<

some of that is funny and some of that is very very sad

i was well disappointed with the race and gutted when Rossi qualified on pole-i wanted to see him power through the field and work for it, it looked to easy for him-i dont think he pushed very hard, hopefully we can get a good 4 way battle next time out and lorenzo will be able to get his bike set up right and battle for a win.
i think pedrosa is like Sete Gibinaue, always there near the front but does not do quite enough to win the championship, although at least sete wasnt scared of bashing fairings with the doctor.

lets be honest it was a given that rossi was going to win this race, its his best track and he won it on a dog of a bike last year, but this year his bike is awesome (gotta give Edwards most of the props for developing this years Yamaha)

i think next race out we will get the battle we have been waiting for-all 4 of the top runners go well around here and who knows if edwards and toseland may keep up (i doubt it),i remeber last season it was a close race

With the result of the race being the most predictable so far, i found this race easily the least exciting of the year. However it is impossible not to be amazed of Rossi's total dominance of this circuit, he looked comfortable throughout and didn't seem phased by the expectations which must build each year he keeps winning. Dani and Stoner both rode solid races to their podium spots but with Rossi on this form it will take more than that to stop him. De Angelis and JT both rode brilliant races to their positions, very promising performances from both and i hope neither are one offs. Lorenzo made an innevitable rookie error, i hope he can learn from it and come back stronger, at least he's ok. Another nightmare for Nicky, i read he had some problems and i just hope it was mechanical and not riding issues, beaten by Dantin is embarassing.

just a point, its a bit gay, but thought it was nice to see that Rossi and Stoner are getting on well together, there seems to be a good vibe between the top 4 guys at the moment, it was nice to see rossi and stoner having a good laugh together instead of acting like ....... to each other, i dont think i heard many excuses this wkend either after the race

Pedrosa and Lorenzo do not speak to each other - call it good vibes.
<

Lorenzo and Rossi do say 'morning and 'evening to each other, but that's it.
Rossi and Stoner feel a big rivalry, and surely Rossi has an axe to grind with Stoner. A sportive one, but still... Slapping shoulders in front of the cameras is ok, but there's no friendship there.
Stoner and Pedrosa were also bitter rivals in 250 and don't love each other.
Stoner and Lorenzo... I don't know. Surely Stoner can not be happy to have someone even younger than him being that competitive...
<

After the race I heard excuses from Stoner. He said he could have beaten Valentino with a better setup... Now that is not what I like to hear from someone who arrived a brilliant 2nd at Mugello. If your setup is not right you may be 4th of 5th on that track, not 2nd.

Besides, Stoner is still the one who puts in the less laps during practice. When he was dominating that could go, but now maybe he should work a little more. The setup never comes magically - especially with the Duc - you gotta find it...

I tend to agree; he can start making excuses for why he didn't win these races if he starts winning races later in the year. Still, they nearly all do it, even rossi did last year, it would seem justifiably given his current form. I guess psychologically most of these guys don't want to admit defeat, but it would perhaps be better to think it rather than say it to the world press.

I gather lorenzo made no excuses though; my respect for him continues to increase.

Looking at Casey's face stood on that podium, looking up at Rossi, reminded me of a few other riders who have had that same dejected, beaten look.

Casey is just about to join a very elite group of men;
Max Biaggi
Sete gibernau
Kenny Roberts jr
Nicky Hayden

No matter what they did they just couldn't beat the master.

1 factor and 3 satellite team honda without any problem ended up ahead of Nicky...This Mystery problem seems only to have haunted the KY Kid...strange, eh?

Anyone catch the SBK race STATE side??..."Fast" Freddy Spencer was one of the commentators (which he sucks at)...on one of his many off topic rants...

He mentioned that Nick had said his BACK hurts riding the DP212V..."it's a tight fit"
