<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (ROCKGOD01 @ Mar 29 2009, 10:23 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>Don't think so but they may try to get it banned. Ducati has developed the thing since mid last year so it isn't a surprise. The Aluminium frame is a new addition to the mix but this also may hhave been there the whole time we just didn't know about it yet. If Ducati is smart they will surely find worse of the 3 frames and put certain bikes on them so they can continue what they were doing.
Maybe they have the upcoming one bike rule in mind; an alloy frame would presumably be more fixable after a practice crash.

I've just seen the live coverage, I think Ezy must have hired Karl Lagerfeld.

Everything was so well designed. The riders looked so good racing down the catwalk and down into the first turn. Matching boots and helmets. Riders sporting two different colored boots. Little metallic accents everywhere. DePuniet's white hot wheels.

Sexy sexy. Seriously though, Someone must have hired an image consultant because all of the bikes and outfits have been updated with style in mind. Maybe it's always been this way, but now that all the sponsors have left, we can actually see the designs on the bikes and leathers.

On a more grave note, I'm concerned about the control tire. I was loving every second of the intense action and then Toseland lost the rear like he was on a 500cc 2-stroke. Unfortunately for Toseland, he was travelling at 800cc speeds when it happened. Hayden also had a close call.

I have never been uptight about cornerspeeds, but something about this year has me on edge.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (jazkat @ Mar 30 2009, 03:26 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>i agree stoner's single lap times are brutal and i dont think any rider could of matched that pace today.

its good for pole and for these events but not realistic over race distance, he could'nt set lap after lap in these times as the bike would not let him as it calculates fuel to finish the race and also tyre degradation comes into play.

but these fast laps are trully spectacular to watch.

Its a real shame these types of limitations are in place.
MotoGP should the the best riders on the best bikes racing as hard as they can go, lap after lap.
Not going as hard as the bike will let you go due to fuel consumption limitations.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (jazkat @ Mar 29 2009, 04:25 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>i noticed some talk during testing about ducati and there combination of using different materials, CF and alloy.

im sure i heard one of the coms saying the test rider was trying a combination of both alloy frame? CF swingarm, and carbon fibre frame and alloy swingarm.
The Eurosport commentary said one of the factory Ducatis was using a carbon fibre frame and swingarm and the other was using a carbon fibre frame and alloy swingarm, I'm sure it was Stoner that was all CF and Hayden was the mixture.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (gsfan @ Mar 30 2009, 12:01 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>Surely Hayden wants to be further up but realistically he was not going to win the car so why try? He needs the day to screw with the bike and hopefully in Qatar he will start to click with it. I am still confident come race day he will be there.
I thought it was interesting to see Hayden was slower than his old team. I have to admit I expected him to be quicker than Dovizioso.

Sorry guys if a little bit late.

Wow, great pics, again 46. What is going on with Marco's hair? WTF. Also, the Hayate colors are too glum. And who painted Sete's bike, Earl Sheib? (only American's will get that joke) Geez thats ugly.

Thanks for the pictures.
I agree with you Jumkie about Setes bike. How do they manage to skrew up the lines of that bike like that i wonder.

On the BBC they said Casey had ridden the alloy swingarm on the first day and gone over to the CF for the second for a proper back to back and liked it. Also apparently the satellite dukes don't have the option at this time.

Did anyone else feel like they missed the qualifying tyres a bit, i know it rained at the end and only two riders were every realistically gonna be quickest, but the final rush as the clock ticks down wasn't there. I think qualifying will be much less exciting this year.

Ok, I came across this, so I though I'd better put this up, at very least to steal somebody else's thunder. Here is a quote from Nicky during the IRTA test:

Feel free to laugh, I though it was funny too.

I hope its not gonna be a long season for us Hayden fans. But seriously, a top 5 finish will seem like a success for me. Or at least beat Kalio, which really will be difficult since that kid is so impressive. Casey is a freak. If he stays on his bike, he should win the title that got away from him last year.

MotoGP has got to do something about starting the season so late, .... even F1 already got started.

What a difference a qual tire makes: Last year at IRTA test:

1. Nicky HAYDEN (Honda), Michelin, 1:38.848

This year at IRTA test:

11. Nicky HAYDEN (Ducati), Bridgestones, 1'40.401

(I await Pinky and or Migs to say something hateful.)

I completely agree, and said so in a recent thread. That final ten minutes of the session used to be manic, although yesterday it did come to a premature and somewhat anti climatical end through circumstance rather than design.

Learning to ride a qualifying tyre - to brake later, push harder, and exploit those extra tenths over your opposition was another art that elevated this sport and distinguished it's riders. It could take an entire rookie season and more to master a qualifier, and sometimes more. It's another blow to the elitism of the supposed blue ribbon class dealt by those who preside over it.

Having said that, it doesn't look like Casey needs them

Not hate here dude....and nothing to be said since the results are speaking for themselves....and by that I mean Mika is impressive and Nicky really needs to adapt and very quickly....

well it took him until the second half of 2008 to adapt to the 800cc Honda, so my hopes aren't set too high

Hayden CAN ride the Ducati, but I'm not sure he remembers how.

If you go back to the late nineties when Hayden was racing in Supersport his style was almost exactly like Stoner's. Body positioning was much different in the days before GP tires and TC, but back then Hayden still rode with almost exclusively with the back wheel.

These days he's so far over the front I worry if he'll ever remember how he used to ride. Somebody needs to bust out the VCR so he can study his old lines/style

You seriously reckon that young Hayden would be faster on the Duc than the more experienced one of today?

I'm not all that concerned with his lack of pace in Jerez. From what I've gathered they found a little bit in the morning but then in the afternoon there were a few issues and he ended up on the backup bike and wasn't able to get back on his preferred bike/setup in time to squeeze a flier in. His time is worrying but I think it's misleading, I'd be surprised if he was outside 5th/6th at Qatar.

i hope dovi dont get screwed over at honda cos hes very talented and could go along way if honda just listend to him a little.
When I was a kid I used to just drop my jaw at what Honda was coming out with next. That sentiment has long since gone with those guys.

I agree, and there were alot of riders that didn't get it right at the qualifying. Those that did the best seemed like they were pretty much finished with their set up work at noon.By the way Nicky also said he had to use his other bike with a different set up because of the clutch problem.
I have watched that sand save by Nicky a few times now and it was quite impressive. He was standing up from the seat,on the right fotrest turning slightly left in a massive speed, heading through the gravel and avoiding the fence by a foot or so.It was in the Toseland-crash corner right after they had carried him away on a stretcher.(For those of you that didn't watch it)
I'm sure things will be different at Quatar when it counts.

I think you are wrong. With less testing and practice time they will have to work ever harder on the setup into to qualifying session, and at the end the gloves are off and the fresh tires on and it will be qualification as it was years ago where you could do 2-3 laps on one tire. I actually found the in/out thing with the recent 1-lap tires a bit akward. It took away half an hour where the riders were able to do 3-4 fast laps and they needed the first two to get up in speed anyway so they were seldom of much use. Now we will see 10-15 min with intence qualifying where each riders will have more fast laps than before. The only possible letdown is that we get to see less of each rider when actually on a fast lap as there will be more riders on the track at any given time.

Stoner will probably just come out of the pits, warm the tires for a couple of laps, put in a fast lap, and then head back to Adriana while no one touches his time for the rest of the session. His third lap was good for the BMW, after all.
