Mir signs pre-contract for Honda

good move for Honda, shows they are paying attention, I think mir has the potential to be better then Zarco

Looks like I may have been not far off the mark.

Who in Moto2 has potential for second Repsol ride?
Bagnaia is a VR46 contracted rider - he's out.
Oliviera to KTM - he's out.
Junior Marquez - an option.
Joan Mir? Maybe needs another season in Moto2.
Brad Binder - an option.
Pasini?

Of these riders I rate in order
Oliviera
Mir
Bagnaia
Marquez
Binder
Pasini.

Just a hunch. I don't think any rider associated with vr46 would be considered by HRC. Not because of Marc, but because of flopsy himself going back to 2003.

I would add that it is likely that all VR academy riders probably sign a clause giving VR46 first options on all contracts.

also because of Marc. The impact that their rivalry had on their marketing is huge.

I honestly thought HRC wouldn't put a potentially new phenom next to Marc, but I'm glad I was wrong. As much as I love Dani, he's had his time at HRC.

.
Yep, I hear you, fella. Marc is still very young himself (25 I think). If he was in his early 30s it would make more sense.
I feel for Dani, I really do, but if Rins is the young up and comer on the Suzuki, I would love to see Dani have a season on it. Nothing against Iannone, I just want to see Dani on the Zook.

Agree. Dani gets a lot of flak but we must not forget he's still a 3x World Champ and he has won at least one race in every single season he's competed in MotoGP. Big champions like Rossi, Lorenzo or Stoner haven't achieved that. Yes, he had his ... on a really good bike for a really long time but still.

As per the Suzuki I agree too, but as I stated the other day the competition for that seat seems huge.

This makes perfect sense also marketing wise with Repsol (a Spanish company) mainly wanting Spanish riders in "their" team.

Repsol wants one Spanish rider in the Team.
The other can be whatever. But it’s definitely to their liking that Mir is Spanish.

It's not that surprising really, Marc was adamant that he wanted a strong teammate and Mir is potentially the best available option. He's 21 this year which seems to be a pretty good age to bring guys up to the premierclass.

Could be good if it happens, an inter team rivalry certainly makes things interesting and adds to the atmosphere.

He's underachieved big time in my opinion,he's been on that bike for 13 seasons now and never delivered a title, that's not good enough on a top bike in arguably the top team in gp racing, especially when you consider Marquez comes in and wins it straight away on the same bike and then adds 3 more titles so far.

I doubt if Marc would be bothered, but would be interesting to see what Alzamora and Daddy Marquez with a girl's name would do if Mir starts racing MM hard.

I reckon Marc would start being more aggressive with overtaking if he starts being beaten by a teammate on a regular basis, all depends on how good Mir is on a new bike.

Until I see a rider as dominate a Marc in the smaller classes I wouldn't be to worried about getting beat if I was him. There isn't a current rider on the grid an up and comer or a sperm in Stoners balls that can compete with Marc. I would say we see about 75% of Marcs potential because there isn't anyone to push him. There isn't a rider alive that can push him.

Dovi pushed him all last season so there are riders out there who will, trouble is not only is Marquez an incredible talent but the Honda is probably the best bike right now. If Yamaha manage to get on terms there's a couple of riders there who can compete with him.

Obviously Zarco is proving that age isn't everything but it is worth noting that when Marquez was Mirs age he already had a MotoGP title to his name to go along with his minor class titles. So it's still unknown if Mir can replicate what Marquez has been able to do.

Not Rossi or Vinales though who they've locked up for the next 2 years.
