Mind games against rossi won't work. Ditto mind games against stoner.

we deffo need more verbal warfare, its not long until the first round and there needs to be more "spice" to liven it up still...

a few "i can beat him on any track, with my eyes closed and one hand tied behind my back" comments wouldnt go astray....

Either the boy is tripping or the one win has gone to his head. Either way, Val isn't going to reply to these little hits, he doesn't need to. The only reason to ingnore a real rival and a SEVEN time world champ is cause you don't want him to exist... kinda 'maybe if I wish it hard enough and say it hard enough then it will come true'. All I have to say is dream on Stoner.

the way i see it, everyone seems to be worrying about how good the ducati/stoner package is, instead of wondering how they are going to improve their own package....

seems like casey is already inside their heads....especially all the opposition fans' minds...

and if any rider does buy this statement, it will be pedrosa....

imagine how puffed up he will be after reading that he is the main rival!

Man didn't even think of that...think it's enough to crack a little smile from the guy?

I don't think Rossi has the upper hand anymore psychologically. Its easy to have the advantage when you are the best rider on the track, but last year Rossi's performance varied noticably when he became demoralized and he talked himself into such a corner he couldn't even go on without changing equipment.

I think he does have the upper hand, perhaps not to the extent he did in say 2005. Everyone(including Stoner) knows that Vale is still the man to beat and Rossi knows it, hence why he's keeping his mouth shut. And noone can deny that Rossi's package was pish lastyear, he was only demoralised by the fact that Yamaha and Micheliin werent coming up with a (far from)competitive package. I think Stoner knows he isnt gonna have it so easy this year, hence the mind games.

100% agree with you on that one.

I see a statement like that as a sign of tension. Discounting Rossi as one among many adversaries is too unrealistic to carry a real sting. Rossi so far has lost to riders with whom he had a relaxed relationship, like Hayden in 2006 and Stoner himself in 2007. I am not sure creating a tension is the right tactic against him. It could easily backfire. Actually it is probably not a tactic, but just a sign that Stoner is a little worried after all, something he might not even admit to himself. I have seen a change in Stoner's attitude towards Rossi since the day Rossi got the Stones.

I don't think this is true at all, the other riders saw what Stoner did to them all (including Rossi) last year and he is now the man to beat. If you think that Stoner is only playing games because he thinks Rossi is better, would you equally agree that Rossi played games in 03 because he knew gibernau was better?

Regardless i don't think Stoners comments are mind games of any sort, its logical that the closest rival is gonna be the guy who was second best last year.

Reading too much into it. I doubt he's even thought about it that hard.
Not like anyone really got close last year.

Good point, if it was just a sporadic thing - but it is not the first time Stoner is peppering his comments like that. When an apparently trivial or casual occurrence keeps repeating, it means something...

I don't think Stoner's got the maturity yet to convincingly pull off any mind game-age.

True that Stoner is now the man to beat. No doubt. But Pedro was not really second best last year, and everybody knows that...

True. That's why I say it is a sign he might be a little worried, after all...
