Michelin® Australian Motorcycle GP 2016 Nicky Hayden extravaganza with spoilers

That was an incredible performance by Cal. I will have to admit, when Rossi took second, my heart sunk as i knew he would run Cal down and win the race. After a few laps, when it was apparent that Cal was just flat out bringing the heat, then i had to start worrying about him binning it. Disappointed in Marc, he had the race in the bag and there was no treason to push to the limit, but then again, maybe Cal runs him down/. No asterisk beside this one big boy, you just beat the best in the world on a dry track, well done. Was a little upset over Nicky but wtf, if you cant get away from the likes of Jack Miller on a factory bike, you are kind of asking for it. Smith did Redding a big favor at the line, but i think it will be to little to late. Vinales was impressive and i think next year will give Rossi fits after summer break. Rossi deserves second in championship as Lorenzo seems to have lost all interest and has really been the faster of the two for most of the season. In Moto 2, Zarco has been trying to give the title away and Lowes ans Rins just throw it back at him like its coated with small pox.Not impressed with either as i said earlier this year. Lowes is an accident waiting to happen, and Rins is a points racer who bins it when he tries to step up the pace.

Yes. Had the same thought after this race, Rossi very definitely the better and faster rider this year

Neither of them are saying that putting PI early on the calendar would guarantee better weather. But it does increase the chances of there being warmer track temps if the GP was held in March.

Yes but didnt some english writer ( probably mat oxley ) once write that some roman emperor ( probably biaggi ) was told by some guy who dreams up wacky stuff, a soothsayer ( probably rossi ) that he .... biaggi should beware the tides of march ( probably under the bridge to PI.?

Congratulations Daniboy. Is this the first time you've actually googled something and parroted the information successfully?
Knew he was on a satellite team , had to confirm the team name and no it's about the millionth time!

Of course I'm going to congratulate Cal - ballsy ride brave choice. Controlled the race throughout.

However, not meaning to steal his thunder, I said this at Brno. If the M1 allowed the hard tyre choice, this race was probably Rossi's.

Those armchair experts that talk of Lorenzo's ailing confidence in cooler conditions and the wet have no clue. Valentino's style and set up attenuates the difficulty encountered by yamaha with the harder compound at certain circuits and conditions. Lorenzo's - to a certain extent - intransigent set up does not. Perhaps that's harsh, I should say that the narrower parameters that govern the setting of his bike does not accommodate or allow compromise and exacerbates the problems. Valentino was quite vocal about the fact that he was not prepared to push for wins on the Ducati. I would suggest that Lorenzo's inability to adapt means that he couldn't press even if he wanted to. Of course this has sapped him of confidence and to a degree there is a psychological toll.

I say again, if Rossi could have run the hard option today, I'm sure that he would have done and possibly would have stood on the top step. Nothing to do with ability or mentality - simply that today, he M1 did not allow him to. To a greater extent, it's been dong the same to Lorenzo all season.

I agree on Lorenzo, his confidence has taken a real beating this year and as the tyre development has progressed throughout the season it seems to not be favouring the Yamaha's all that much any more, let alone Lorenzo's riding style.

I think if Rossi had of qualified towards the pointy end of the grid it would have been an interesting race. I think he and Cal would have been quite evenly matched on their respective tyre choices when both having to slog it out at the limit, would have been fun to see. But neither of them would have been able to take on Marc if he hadn't of binned it and kept it in the race, don't really know why he was pushing it as hard as he was. He had a pretty commanding lead on Cal even after a handful of laps ... maybe all the excitement of HRC letting him off his leash was just too much for him.

Congratulations to Cal. Great to see him finally living up to his potential. And Rossi was the Rossi of old, including poor quali. Vinales (as has been said before) will be giving Rossi fits before long. Shame it took so long for Dovi to have a properly competitive bike; he's certainly kept his head high over the years when riding bikes that were below par. And a big Doh! to Marquez. But at least he was straight up about not blaming anyone else but himself. Hoping Michelin has gained enough data this year to make better front ends for 2017. They've added too much of a crap-shoot factor to this season. As for Nicky - jeez, a ....... 10th would have been pretty satisfying. Can't help but wonder if there is something in his make-up as a rider that factors into why he seems to have been knocked down more than any other factory rider I can think of. It's almost like he has the rider equivalent of Stockholm Syndrome.

Awesome ride from Cal, Had a wee feeling he was on to win this weekend so put him in the fantasy team made him captain and reaped the rewards.
It's a strange one, cos as the old saying goes concerning riders, you have your first kid and you lose four tenths, Cal seems to be the opposite he's found four tenths or more, I can only put it down to he wants to be a winner for Willow.
All Brits reading this Cal for SPOTY. Make some noise and lets make this happen, at least into the final ten FFS!

This years probably as good a year as any to get him in seeing as only the Olympians have done anything this year in British sports. Probably a bit too outrageous for the Beeb to include a biker though. Think Toseland was the last nominated in 2007 and he was beaten into 4th by Calzaghe, Hamilton and Hatton.

Maybe it was Uccio's idea, after all he doesn't like Max. BTW its the Ides of March ;)

Well in cal, keeping the English up there, blew Rossi away on a second hand Honda.Same amount of wins as Rossi this year ha.

Marquez don't give a .... now. Lorenzo been shafted by yam and has give up. He's was cruising.

Only Suzuki will provide fireworks now till the end. Vinales should have stuck with Suzuki, the yam is going backwards with Rossi developing it, ....... clueless he is, just like when he was in the duc.

Shame about Hayden was going really well. Showed Miller up really

Cal's bike is factory spec which is why he was gaining on Marquez before he crashed, your anti Rossi agenda is getting old boyo.

Not quite factory spec. Cal's breakthrough came when he inherited a chassis that was rejected by Marc and Dani, because they felt it didn't offer enough improvement over their existing ones.
Without googling it I can't be 100% sure whether it was just prior to, or just after Brno. He definitely had it at Silverstone as he mentioned it in an interview.
Just got to watch the race, Cal was brilliant, kudos to VR for his ride too. Brad Smith showed amazing bottle to ride to 8th with his injury as well.
It's a good day to be British, doesn't happen too often in MotoGP [emoji1]

Not sure if i want the SNS tyres to come back though. .

Not SNS as they were as some time back I posted that if a tyre is available for one rider, it should be available for all and where the manufacturer cannot provide sufficient tyres of that particular construction, then that tyre is not allowed to be used by any rider.

In short, build for (as an example) Valentino but allow that tyre to be used by all others. Build for Jorge and allow all others access. Build for Marc and allow anyone who wants to use the tyre to have access to it. If not enough of Valentino's tyres are available then he cannot use it and nor can anyone else and so forth.

Fair points.

So Arrib, get to the point will you. :p

The only way that should be allowed is if the same number of races took place in Asia as races in Europe. I love the tire wars, but keep that SNS .... where it belongs, out of the sport. Even if it were my favorite rider that benefitted, i want no part of it again

Pov, as per my post.

SNS is just the term I use to describe rider specific suitable tyres

How could it be more factory? He gets to ride the same damn mid-season chassis that the other two ride. He got it at the same time. He liked it better than the older one. I know Marc did not. I am not sure about Dani because he made other changes at the same time. Crutchlow gets every damn thing that the Repsol guys do, otherwise he wouldn't have two wins. He is NOT a faster rider than MM. He needs MM to ....-up or for MM to be protecting a championship to win. CC wasn't even in the same ball game before MM decided to dump it for no good good reason.

To be brutally fair though Pony, Cal is very good at PI and has always gone well.

It seems a track that suits but I also suspect that he is more comfortable with the variable weather and lower track temperatures but at PI, Cal is far from a slouch.

Never been a Crutchlow fan but fair play to him for that ride and almost sounding humble in parc ferme,......at this rate i might start to like the guy,he must have heard about the Crashy Crutchlow game a while back......,i haven't watched the post race conference yet so don't know if it was covered but is he still contracted to LCR for next year?,reckon he fancies himself for Pedrosa's bike now.
