Nice ride by Cal! Good job by Rossi and Vinales to charge up to the podium positions from the back of the grid.

Miller made contact with Nicky.

Anyway great win for Crutchlow!

Masterful ride, and took advantage of the opportunity when it presented himself. Rode absolutely flawlessly. Nothing more than you could ask of him, and a nice way to right the ship on that missed podium 2 years ago.

Rossi rode well as did Vinales.

Missed opportunity for Aleix Espargarro.

MM picked the right time to crash. Shouldn't have happened, but if you're going to do it, make sure you have the title wrapped up.

Big finish for Scott Redding who finished two spots ahead of Petrucci. I'm sure povol will tell us he is unimpressed.

Also much thanks to Dorna for juicing up the cheers for Rossi on the podium so it was louder than everyone else's. No shock that the fans think it's acceptable to cheer crashed riders since they are treated to classless .... from the group running the sport.

Top ride by Rossi, just like Rossi of old at the Island and cannot lie but for a while thought that he may have enough to catch Cal but full credit to Cal for being able to maintain the pace on the hard and manage the gap back to Rossi (great parc ferme comment 'I saw Ross and though f*ck me no')

Very good result for Vinales as well who hunted and claimed a spot that was earned not given.

Marquez, well he gave all indications that he was in a win or bin mode now with the championship wrapped up but as with Espargaro he was simply caught out by the usual Honda hairpin where so many fall on the right side on entry.

On a parochial note, good to see Miller in the top 10 and shame that the contact with Hayden resulted in Hayden DNF'ing (only seen it once thus far) but it was late racing and there was a small gap so ..........

Hayden, (sorry papps) well done and whilst you end up DNF'ing you did nothing but show that you were and remain worthy of the opportunity. Somewhat thrown in late and yet competitive as can be without quite competing with the top 5 or so, but with time who genuinely knows.

Mad Mike gets a MotoGP point and beat people on track so seriously well done there mate, a great result and hopefully has a few eyes open that your approach is one that teams can use and benefit from. Chances may now come that would not have otherwise.

One thing that did strike me however was the clear difference between the Repsol and Miller bikes as a few times Miller was right in the slipstream onto the straight but stood no chance of getting by so clearly work is needed there to close that gap a little.

Tyres seemed to hold up for all thus far .

And on a final note, little Willow does seem to have helped her father go from opening the front gate to now knocking on the door of being considered week in, week out.

Cal is now the only one outside of Rossi, Marquez, Pedrosa and Lorenzo (excluding Hayden as he is not a regular) of the regulars with more than 1 MotoGP race win. Congrats

Should also add thank you Cal for showing that a full post race lap with a decently behaved crowd is doable at the Island

Heard that as well FL.

He made sure that the journo was aware that it was all his fault (he said it 3 times)

Credit where due

Only saw the last few laps on my phone. Looked like Rossi deserved the cheers, and perhaps Cal was right about heing a factory rider all along; he has certainly prospered since he adopted the new chassis.

Looked over-ambitious by Miller, Hayden had caught and passed him and he then couldn't stay ahead of Redding and Petrucci anyway.

MM has only scored points in 1 of 4 attempts at PI in the premier class, and I presume he crashed from the lead as he did in 2014.

Always knew Cal was capable of race wins in MotoGP even if it's been a long time coming, 5 years in the making.

After winning the championship at Motegi I knew Marc would either win it or bin it.

Good strong rides by Cal and Rossi though. Lorenzo's results surprised me a little I thought he would have picked up more positions when he got into his groove after things settled down.

Lorenzo is backing Rossi up on moving PI race to earlier date.

Something about how unsafe this is and how will Dorna react now, will they go for safety or continue to just look at the profit.

Well, he does complain when he can, specialy during a weekend when he is not in top 3 and things don't go his way, but backing up Rossi....that is new. I don't understand his complaints about safety while he never botheres to show up at SC meetings.

Anyone knows what time is the press conference? It's my first time having Video Pass and I always thought they were immediately after the races.

I know what they are saying is coming from a good place but neither of them have lived in Melbourne let alone Phillip Island. The weather is unpredictable there all year round and moving the date offers little guarantee of better weather.

I wonder if Honda is throwing more support Cal's way to try and lock up the constructor's championship since Dani is out. Great ride by CC. MM's crash was not surprising. His mistakes have taken him out of the race 3/4 years here.

In a completely useless note, Marquez won the BMW M award for pole position scoring again. That's 4 years in a row. Takes home a M2 this year to go with the M6, M4, and M6 he won the last three years. Wonder if he keeps the cars.

Neither of them are saying that putting PI early on the calendar would guarantee better weather. But it does increase the chances of there being warmer track temps if the GP was held in March.

WHAT IS THE WEATHER LIKE IN MELBOURNE?
Melbourne may be known for its fickle weather - the city has been described as having four seasons in one day - but it can still be enjoyed all year round. Plan ahead with this information on temperature and rainfall.
Summer (December – February)
Melbourne warms up in summer with mean temperatures between 14 - 25.3°C (57.2 - 77.5°F). These months are dry, with occasional hot spells that can last more than three days. Melbourne’s top temperatures are usually in January and February, when temperatures can occasionally soar past 30°C (86°F).

Autumn (March – May)
Autumn sees cooler weather with average temperatures ranging from 10.9 – 20.3°C (51.6 - 68.5°F). Morning fog usually clears to welcome fine, sunny days, however toward the end of the season there can be extended periods of light winds.

Winter (June – August)
In winter, average temperatures range from 6.5 - 14.2°C (43.7 - 57.6°F), and snow falls in the north-east of Victoria, known as High Country. The weather is frequently cold and cloudy, and nights can be accompanied by frosts. Heavy rain is rare at this time of year.

Spring (September – November)
During spring average temperatures range from 9.6 - 19.6°C (49.3 - 67.3°F). The season is known as the most variable of the year, when weather can quickly change from calm and sunny to cold and windy. Pack your umbrella – October is the wettest month with roughly 10 days of rainfall.
