I 100% agree with you, I have been giving that a lot of thought in the past week or two. I'm not trying to take away from Mladin here but I feel it necessary to argue both sides of the coin. Mladin is on a superior machine, it has won all AMA and WSC races thus far. The Honda comes close but the '05 GSXR 1000 is the best bike in the paddock. Ducati is currently using WSC spec fuel versus the oxygenated fuel Mat and the rest of the AMA teams are running, once Shell develops their 999 purpose created oxygenated fuel Hodgson and Bostrom will have about a 7-10 horsepower bump. American Honda has parted ways with HRC development and are actually going SLOWER than last year. If they were still HRC developed bikes as I understand the BSB teams are, then perhaps they could be giving Mladin a run for his money. Getting that out of the way, Mladin is riding the best I have ever seen from him. Put him in the WSC series on his GSXR and I think he beats Troy Corser. Put him on a Honda RC2111V and I think he's instantly competitive. The only thing that stopped Nicky Hayden from winning two AMA Superbike Championships prior to the one he won was Mat Mladin. Both their talents have improved so as of right now I would put Mat Mladin right on pace with Nicky Hayden, if not some faster. He is also more consistant than Hayden. So to be honest if Mat Mladin were on a Honda RC211V this year at this stage in the season I would put Mladin second in points. No doubt in my mind he would be in the top 5.
