Laguna race thread

I think Adriana was spooked by "the pass", pretty sure I heard her exclaim a "faarck" when talking about it in park ferme. Just wish Babel was here .... he would tell me for sure if thats what she exclaimed.

Yeah, I tried to write it down as objectively as possible. Don't want to be starting rumours, but curious to learn more.

It means, basically "I did a grea battle with Nicky and it was fun. In the box he said to me "you could have slowed down a little. it was my home race...i told him that the next time we'll make a deal to ride a little easier!"

Just watched this bit over a few times, and I'd have to say that seems pretty much what happened. Bit of friendly consolatory banter thats all. The crew etc. in the background looked "glum as a Scot", it kinda made the whole thing seem far worse than it ever was.

What did JB say before the race? According to Daryl Beattie JB said they need to change the ducati (for Rossi) to be more like a Japanese bike. Holy .... isnt it a bit like saying get a yamaha and paint it red because the whole ducati philosophy is wrong. What a kick in the head for ducati they must be wondering why the hell they hired these guys. Doesnt Ducati have the most successfull superbike in history with a trellis frame and stressed V engine, beating inline fours with alloy frames? What do you say to all those who paid good money for a duc? Sorry Rossi said your bike sucks, sell it and buy a yamaha.

Good race by Stona....it's too bad Spies got bottled up at the start, thinking he could have stood on the podium.

Apparent exchange between Rossi and Hayden in the garage was Hayden telling Rossi he could have eased up since it was his home race? Nicky? If true you have to earn it babe ala Armstrong...no gifts! I'll stay tuned on this...it was reported on GPOne btw.

So you wouldn't have preferred it if Lorenzo was able to put up a fight?

I think ive made myself perfectly clear that i take prototype racing for what it is. If the gap between 1st and 2nd is 30 seconds, i dont care. If its .0001, i dont care. My point was, that back in the day, a race like this with Rossi winning, resulted in oohs and ahhs , now its boring. Why is that

I almost forgot, and wish i could forget. Ben Bostrom was an embarassment today, to his country, his fans and his fellow American riders. HE ....... QUIT, and i hate a ....... quitter. I dont give a .... if he was challenging for a Superbike title, which he is not, he owed it to everyone to finish that race. He owed the LCR team who spent a ton of money to make this happen. He owed it to his fans, he owed it to his country. He thinks getting lapped is embarassing, wait till he see what is said about him in years to come

Jeez your easily pleased.

Germany was a much better race.

Were you watching the same as the rest of us?

'lil red rocket pilot'...we were watching Laguna 2011 whatrace were you watching

??? And btw Sachsenring will never happen again for CS so get over it!

If you weren’t pleased by Laguna then you must be a bopper of some sort…and that was a real pass at the corkscrew not like some other guy (I won’tmention his name)

Great race and as per my predictions, I picked the boxed trifecta

and I had $200AUD on CS for as win with bwin
@ $3.50 I should have taken a trifecta but it’sgood enough and that is putting your balls where your money is!

Great race and good ride by Jlo also and what I really respectand appreciate to see about CS, Jlo and Pedro is that they respect and are friendlywith each other and I must include Dovi, Spies also, great to see and let thebest man win every race from now on and the W/C and lets have every race like Sachsenringand Laguna!

Shhh barry, it doesn't work if everyone knows about it.

I must say the race result was a pleasant surprise. Stoner seems to be methodically disproving every negative myth about his riding this year, now including that he can't overtake, that he can only win from in front, that he can't find anything over a race week-end if not the fastest from the get-go, and that he will succumb to pressure and start putting the bike down in a close championship points race.

He wasnt an embarassment Povol, he is an embarassment. He always has been. Ive been saying it for years. Mladin said it 2 years ago and still nothing was made of it. He hasnt won or been competitive on anything for years despite being repeatedly given a top ride. Putting someone with his experience on a supersport bike against kids cutting their teeth 3 years ago was shamefull. He quit after he won his WSBK title. Hes been collecting a paycheck ever since. Did you ever really believe that he was better suited on that bike than Herrin or Eslick or Davies. The list goes on and on of guys with heart and talent that are stuck in support classes while he laughs his way to the bank.

The American scene in the GP world is slowly being phased out. The rest of the world looks on the AMA as a joke. A shining star like Benny Solis is getting overlooked for euro talent instead. Bennys 20 sec lead and 8second win is now overshadowed by the bigger story of how the last 2 AMA wildcards at Laguna moto gp quit.

I bet Jumkie that he would finish dead last. The stakes were that the loser would have to post an essay on why or why not Bostrom should be in racing.

What i saw today was of no surprise.

He quit after he won his WSBK title.

When did that happen?

Bostrom isn't an embarrassment, he's a 600cc rider who is very streaky on an SBK. The US has lots of epic 600cc riders b/c Supersport has been the only competitive class in the AMA for the last 5 years (now DSB), but we don't produce many riders who have mastered the 1000s. Bostrom won 5 WSBK races on the bounce so I wouldn't say he doesn't have talent, and I wouldn't say he gave up after his AMA SBK title. He's just a stoner who likes to thrash Supersport bikes. His brother was meant for SBKs.

Talents is the issue. Noone since Gobert has squandered their talent so fabulously. At least Gobert had an excuse

So he never won a WSBK title? Are you ....... kidding me. I didnt watch racing back then and heard he actually won a reputable title. Wow. If thats true than its even worse. Hes spent a decade or so riding the wave of fortune by winning 5 frigging races. And here i believed he actually did something of worth in his career to garner so much respect.

if it wasn't for the rules Ducati could not compete in WSBK and their bikes don't exactly have a good reputation for reliability or fit and finish when compared to other brands.

Pretty bike? No street rider is gonna be able to get the most out of any bike so I'm sure people buy them for the nice looks and name. Look what happened to them when HRC decided to build a twin for WSBK.

I completely agree with you, the amount of money and dedication that these crews put into these bikes and this prima donna goes into the pits like a coward, they should have let a younger hungrier guy onto the bike.

Don't forget that he has a professional crew that found him what he needed in warm up to have confidence in the bike. They should get some credit as well, like other crews get for finding their guy a good set up and giving him what he needs.

Unlike you guys, I was pretty sure that Bostrom was either going to bin it or bring it in early. Nothing could be worse for him than interfering in the championship race as a backmarker (something that happens in the AMA quite frequently). If you watched the race on SPEED, I believe he said that he brought it in b/c he was having problems with the shifter, and after losing 10-15 seconds in the gravel trap, he wasn't willing to be lap traffic for the remainder of the race.

He was being smart, imo. Don't bin it, and don't interfere with the championship. Gotta be within 2 seconds to avoid being lapped, Ben never made it.

To the ones saying it wasn't a good race - what does it take to satisfy you ? We had the 3 best riders out there giving it all on well sorted bikes to show their skills !

Lolli was fantastic how he keeps knocking out consistant laps whilst being hounded/hunted by the Ped and CS.

I am appreciating his effort very much and how he keeps it on aided by his great handling Yama is superb to watch.

Ped's comeback is 1st class but Guna is more demanding physically he couldn't keep it "on" with Lolli hence CS decides to make the move up.

Corkscrew was amazing to watch him go for it ! then his outside pass on Lolli was all balls and control sensational !

What a last 1/3 race by CS - stalk take and burn
<

Long way to go yet but the Lolli CS Championship battle is great to watch.

As for the rest ???! Pieman - bad starts puts him behind the eight ball but there's no doubt having a good bike then home track advantage so from memory he finally got Dovi very late in the race, not good enough imo but I'm sure others will say why ?

Bostrom ? very sad for the US supporters imo....

The Duck show ?
