JEREZ GP 2012: RACE

Hardly.... the sheer number of races Pedrosa has won makes this assertion nonsense.

Fifteen races - in six years. 2-3 a year, except in 2010 when he managed 4.

It wasn't really an assertion, it was tongue-in-cheek.

But, there has been plenty written about the difficulty he has had physically adapting to the larger bike when Honda realised they made a pig's ear by developing a 240hp pit bike.

He is a little guy, in the real world he would weigh 50kg. He weighs in at around 51kg - you can only make so much muscle without resorting to gene therapy.

From Ben's website...

Ben Spies suffered a second disappointing race today, despite starting well the Texan was unable to find a good feeling from the front end of his M1 and was cautious to push to hard and risk a fall.

He took the same result as in Qatar, finishing in 11th to take a further five Championship points, bringing his total to ten and 11th in the standings.

Ben Spies – Position : 11th

“I don’t really know what happened, I got off to a pretty good start from the line but after that I didn’t have a good feeling with the bike, it was a pretty pathetic race really for me. I’ve apologized to the team and we’ve had a long meeting about what I was feeling with the bike. I just wasn’t comfortable, I rode as hard as I could but the speed just wasn’t there. We need to find something because we can see the Yamahas are working well but my feeling with the bike is not great. It was a bad day at the office today.”

Massimo Meregalli – Team Director

“It’s been a very challenging weekend for the whole team… A disappointing race for Ben, we know he tried his hardest but unfortunately he couldn’t find a good feeling with the set up so was unable to fight with the front groups. We will work hard between here and Estoril to see what we can do to improve this for the next race.”

Passing him and finishing higher up due to a DNF are not one and the same. I have to re-watch the race as I don't recall seeing said pass.
Don't know if it got coverage, but it happened on lap one.

All ....... who were questioning Stoners motivation, raise your right hand, and slug yourself in the nuts with the other.

When Lorenzo was pacing Stoner lap after lap about 8/10ths back, i thought Stoner was toast. When he closed in on Stoners back wheel , i new he was toast. I was surprised to say the least when he pulled a half second in one lap to secure the win. Masterful ride. Impressed with Crutchlow, Ben, you paying attention. Gotta love Haydens heart, he pushed that turd for all its worth. Rossi should be embarrassed , he is clearly just going through the motions. Ducati should be furious at his lack of effort.

Great insight. What about if Rossi was on a Honda? Or Spies?

dont like accidents i just like agressive racing...... its racing not a knitting class

if rossi or spies was on a honda i dont think either would do aswell as lorenzo, rossi is getting slightly slower and i dont think ben is that good tbh

formula change has done ...., same .... they need to be going down the moto2 route if they want good racing.

You're being pedantic. The number of wins is higher than everyone other than Stoner, Lorenzo or Rossi in the same period - that... combined with the number of 2nd and 3rd place podiums negates your theory. All the more so if you consider how many races he has missed due to injuries. I don't think he has what it takes to win a championship - but if he doesn't it won't be due to lack of stamina or fortitude. He's simply a lesser talent than the other "aliens".

Nowadays I'm getting more excited watching Garry Kasparov vs. Machine in the chess world championship. Dani, Casey and Jorge are aliens but they respect each other too much. That sucks, we're talking about racing here, and mutual respect is my ..., the top 3 is looking like sissy whores. They don't need to kill each other but without any sign of rivalry emerging I can't see the series being enjoyable by the public Rossi has created. That's the reason we need Rossi up there, and quickly.

And you are taking yourself much too seriously - or does the phrase 'tongue in cheek' need further explanation?

OK, to make you happy.

You are right, I am wrong. I don't know what I am talking about. You have mastery of things racing other men could only dream about. Pedrosa is a man mountain able to wrestle bear, let alone a dainty 240hp motorcycle.

Actually, your pointing out the number of injuries he has sustained may not have done your argument much good at all, but rather than have you go all pouty and moody, I won't bring it to your attention.

You should have stopped there.

Pedrosa's injuries are not a result of a lack of stamina - therefore in no way support your theory - tongue-in-cheek or otherwise. If you weren't serious just say so - instead of wasting everyone's time with pointless rebuttals. Your assertion of my being pouty is yet another baseless assumption.

He looks like Preziosi's illegitimate child, but at only 16 he surely is already someone on the track. Italy needed some reason to rejoice
<
.

His fast and steady style reminds me of... Agostini. Now, that's quite a comparison...
<

In Moto2 Redding impressed me more than others.

In MotoGP, all those who chose a soft front tire suffered (see Dovi); all but Lorenzo, who made 2nd on such a tire (but could have fought for the win otherwise).

Stoner lost Qatar but conquered Jerez.

Crutchlow has found his bike.

Spies got Rossi's syndrome?! He's explaining his lack of feeling with the bike in almost the same words, but hey, that's a factory M1! Wake up Ben, or Cal will take it away from you next year!

Nicky started fast, but had to slow down as the track dried up. In the end, the two factory Ducatis were close.

But now Nicky leads the development.
