JEREZ GP 2012: RACE

I don't know. If Doohan says that Rossi is not driving the bike near enough to its limit, I'm not going to argue against that. I was just saying that considering where he started, his race pace cannot have been much worse than Nicky's, but I have not looked at the lap times.

Wasn't he in the 125 race?

Oh yeah go on you bopper!! Yeah thats the new excuse ........ his mind was on Fernati's great moto3 race ........ oh wait you said 125's .......... yeah the gap was more like he was in last year I suppose

Who's "Rossi"?

Valentino Rossi, (born February 16, 1979 in Urbino),[sup][1][/sup] is an Italian professional motorcycle racer and multiple MotoGP World Champion. He is one of the most successful motorcycle racers of all time, with nine Grand Prix World Championships to his name – seven of which are in the premier class.

Following his father, Graziano Rossi, Valentino started racing in Grand Prix in 1996 for Aprilia in the 125cc category and won his first World Championship the following year. From there, he moved up to the 250cc category with Aprilia and won the 250cc World Championship in 1999. He won the 500cc World Championship with Honda in 2001, the MotoGP World Championships (also with Honda) in 2002 and 2003, and continued his streak of back-to-back championships by winning the 2004 and 2005 titles after leaving Honda to join Yamaha, before regaining the title in 2008 and retaining it in 2009.[sup][2][/sup] He left Yamaha to join Ducati for the 2011 season.[sup][3][/sup][sup][4][/sup]

Rossi is first in all time 500 cc/MotoGP race wins standings, with 79 victories, and second in all time overall wins standings with 105 race wins (behind Giacomo Agostini with 122).

Great to see tighter racing at the top.And Crutchlow ofcourse.Congratulations to Stoner on a brilliant race!

Great race from Jorge too.If the stiffer fronttire disappears it will be a very thight battle for the championship I'm sure.

He basically also said the same as everyone, that there is not much incentive for someone with valentino's record to throw the bike down the road to finish 7th rather than 8th or whatever. He also said the ducati from his remove via satellite still doesn't look right.

Doohan said it Doesn't look right the way Rossi is riding it, and that early in the race Nicky looked like he was.

He said nicky looked better early in the race, not that the ducati looked good in absolute terms.

FFS barry, just be happy with a great win by stoner. I wasn't convinced he could adapt his riding style to this year's tyre/ a soft tyre in general (particularly at jerez) before today.

Rossi can't ride the ducati, and it starts to look as though it is down to the engine characteristics, as you (and I) have maintained. I don't think those 75 odd premier class races I saw him win on other bikes were a mirage though.

Great ride by cal. Who knows what he could do on a factory bike?

Stoner winning Jerez on a soft tyre? Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Makes it look like he was telling the truth as is his wont about it being arm pump rather than tyres at qatar as well.

Now add to his lists of accomplishments: Conservationist. Truly - I would give $1,000.00 to see the look on

Lorenzo's face when Stoner reduced his time by half a second on the last lap.

To me it honestly never looked like Lorenzo was going to make a pass that would stick. He was quicker in one section of the track, but that Honda just got too quickly out of the corners.

Lorenzo was catching Stoner only in the two right hand corners, possibly a legacy of Stoners Youth in dirt track ........ dare I point out deficiencies in that great discipline
<

Doohan said 5 seconds is a lot.

And anyway WhyTF would you, HOW could you!, develop a bike for a guy who isn't even getting near the limit.

Today Nicky rode the bike near its limit, in the early stages, but perhaps thats what made him fade near the end. At least Nicky could go back to the garage and say " at that speed the bike was doing this ........... ".

Are you suggesting that Rossi would go back and say "at the speed Nicky was doing the bike is probably/maybe/could be doing this .............. jus wait. I'll consult my crystal ball"

Mind you I think after today, Nicky might decide his fitness could be worked on. The guy was dicing at the front for a while on the supposed poor Ducati.

Nobody fell off a factory GP12 today ........ thats a real good sign.

Don't want to jinx anything - but seems like thus far - there has been a notable increase in saves and a decrease in crashes amongst the prototype teams since the advent of the 1000 cc engines.

Good to see yer still around.

Cheers,

Could totally be due to a stabler Ducati .........
<
were it 2011 they used to have 10 crashes a lap.

He seemed to as far as I was concerned; perhaps someone else was watching and can give their recollection..

The "
<
" at the end was somewhat satirical....... he did imply the Ducati was not a perfect bike, but was being somewhat diplomatic about it ......... but he rightfully indicated the real woes at the moment seemed due to Rossi .......... hence his view on "Nicky riding at the limit being of benefit for real development".

Where are you 33 coupe,

The times are pretty far off from the test times, the Duc hasn't magically gotten faster everyone else has gone slower. Go look up the times for yourself and then go see Nicky's career at Ducati and what happens to his pace at the end of most dry races. I'm a fan of his and I'll be praying for rain, the bike is still .... and way off the pace, as the fuel is burned and the front end becomes liter he will have to slow down. Even if the bike was indeed better, it isn't a proper factory effort. I have no clue what Rossi is up to but that bike is trash and the two sat bikes are being ridden hard and still being out matched by a CRT bike. I want to see Nicky on a real GP bike and not the POS Duc. If we have a dry race we can revisit this post and talk about what that front row was worth, .... he says it himself in the post quali interview, remember he/duc is off the pace and there are 4 bikes behind him that can easily go faster. The race will be interesting for sure
