JEREZ GP 2012: RACE

1/ Casey: The bogey track has been busted. Looked as though he'd shot his bolt too early as regards his rear. Given the pressure from Lorenzo, managed the situation brilliantly. Justice for last year.

2/ Jorge: I reckon would have taken the win today had it not been for front tyre degradation. Surprising given his decision to opt for the older stiffer carcass front. Whatever - Lorenzo's land has been conquered. At least your leathers stayed dry this year - that water looked bloody baltic.

3/ Dani: The most spoilt man in the class. Seventh year on a Repsol Honda - still no title. Nonetheless, never been off the rostrum at Jerez - and celebrates his 99th podium. Pragmatic as ever and magnanimous in defeat, admitted that he was too cautious early on - and reflected in his decision to opt for the newer front.

4/ Cal: Fastest lap of the race - abducted by aliens. Careful - Jumkie's got his eye on you since you decided to offset the black livery of the M1 with a touch of red. Nibbled all race at Pedrosa's lead - happy as a a mouse in a motorhome. Fourth Place - riding a satellite Yam, 0.4 behind the Spaniard and current circuit lap record holder who still rides a factory Honda, around Jerez the Spanish spiritual home of motorcycle racing - a track you loath. Rainey used to say the ground war begins at Jerez - and if you can pull off a good ride here it augers very well for the season. Personally I already feel vindicated given the years that I've banged on about him on here. 1000cc was a Godsend for you Cal.....and us.

5/ Dovi - Talking of red...you needed to think about beating your team mate this year - for better or worse, rightly or wrongly Bradley's coming.

6/ Alvaro - can only get faster as the team gathers data on the Showas.

7/ Stefan: Solid ride - Nicky was a significant scalp for a rookie - despite the fact that you almost collected him earlier in the race.

8/ Nicky - time to lead development now.

9/ Vale - So much can happen in a year....for the worse. 35 seconds adrift of the leader...At least there was no danger this time around of your ambition outweighing your talent!!!

10/ Hector - wtf???? you let Rossi beat you on that factory Ducati!!!??!!

11/ Cal wants your ride Ben. ....... ditch Houseworth and get a decent crew chief, and stop holding your Mum's hand. 11th and 38 seconds off. Texas is made of stronger stuff than that - ask Colin. On second thoughts - don't.

12/ Aleix - Lucky sod, but nice to see you win the class following Pol's victory earlier in the day. You beat Colin.

13/ Petrucci - You beat Colin

14/ Pasini - would prefer to be watching you in Moto2, but, you beat Colin

15/ Ivan - You beat Colin.

16/ Colin - I reckon there's one more WSBk title in you. Look at Checa.

17/ Karel - Had the honour of sharing the only crash of the race with Michele 'Pirouette' but in doing so failed to beat Colin.

Randy's trackside gesticulations reflected my dumfounded amazement watching at home......how the .... can a CRT bike run out of fuel???!!!!??? James...unlucky, with Randy running out of juice you would have been second in the standings. Yonny - non starter - not that we really noticed.

as the fuel is burned and the front end becomes liter he will have to slow down.

Isn't the fuel tank on this Ducati is under the seat ?? ...... so why would it get lighter at the front? Pretty sure the seat would be rearward of the longitudinal centre of mass .....

4/ Cal: .......... happy as a a mouse in a motorhome.

It was Cal not Spies with the mouse wasn't it? Stoner aparently tweeted an offer to bring him a chair and a skirt so he could stand on it, and scream

Cal is a character for sure.

Closer to the truth than you think.

He's terrified of them! He sends Lucy in to see if they've caught it if a trap goes off!

They stretched it towards the front this year, my point is the bike is still .... and a good front row start was still only worth a mid pack finish. It was easy for every one to be happy for Nicky yesterday but the reality of the situation is the same and we still have no clue what Rossi is up to. I think he is still working on optimizing the bike and his style to the bike, but the bike clearly needs more work for both riders. Rossi saved his tires for the end of the race like he has done his entire career and his fastest race lap was a couple tenths better than Nicky's but still way to far off the pace. The lap times were actually in line with what JB said Rossi could do on the bike if he was riding hard, not enough and the new parts need to hurry up and get here.

Yes, he was watching the same race as you. So did I. What eats you? I think it was you that was not watching the race, Rossi did not pass any CRT.

I'll type it slowly for you...

Randy De Puniet qualified 10th, Rossi Qualfied 13th. De Puniet lined up on row 4 of the grid, Rossi lined up on row 5.

Randy De Puniet DNFd with a broken bike on lap 26, Rossi finished the race in 9th place.

Unless you have developed some special physics, at some stage during the race (Lap 1, in fact), Rossi passed De Puniet. Thus, being able to rightfully claim that he passed a CRT team. Don't take THAT away from him...

Nothing 'eats' me. Rossi wasn't deserving of a 'gutsy' monicker, IMO. If I am allowed one, that is...

Pedrosa was there too...don't know why he dropped back after the first few laps as quickly as he did but he maintained his speed after that and given a few more laps, he and Crutchlow may have been involved in the fight for the win too.

It seems that Pedro only has a few really fast laps in him - a testament to his bird-like physique, perhaps? Cal couldn't get past him for the same reason Lorenzo couldn't get past Stoner - that Honda is ridiculously quick out of corners.

I think Pedrosa is destined to be the Randy Mamola of the noughties, but without the personality or mad fool-around skillz.

I think you may have something there... Houseworth was all very well as a crew chief/mentor/nanny in WSBK, but in GP I think he is out of his depth.

Put another way, Lorenzo doesn't seem to be having issues sorting out the handling of his M1...

pretty boring tbh

good ride from casey and jlo but i think they were lucky dani got held up.....

rossi....... pathetic

awesome job from cal

if lorenzo was on a honda i think casey would be settling for 2nd place quite alot.

Passing him and finishing higher up due to a DNF are not one and the same. I have to re-watch the race

as I don't recall seeing said pass.

Hardly.... the sheer number of races Pedrosa has won makes this assertion nonsense. He's not a great battler

and if he doesn't get a huge jump right from the start - he tends to lose focus. If he could manage to win a few

from behind - I think that would change. But I'm not holding my breath. He's just not that kind of fighter.

Not so sure about that Jaz - I can think of certain circuits where that M1 will come into it's own - and with Jorge in the seat will be simply unassailable. The yam is without doubt the best all round package as it stands.

Remember Estoril last year? It was admittedly an anomaly - he tends to like to lead from the off - in complete contrast to his 125 and 250 years when he relished a battle.

Pedrosa blamed himself and his choice of tire... neither of which hinged on luck.

Boring? Not enough accidents for you?

And I'm concerned you may have been watching a different/old race - Dani got held up? Where exactly...

His race progression was: 1, 1, 4, 5, 5, 5, 3, 3, 3, 3, 3.....3 - nowhere was he held up. From lap 3 on, he was losing time to Lorenzo, even when there was no-one between him and Lorenzo... so if he was being held up, it was himself doing the holding. From the five seconds he had dropped by lap 13 ,he slowly clawed that back (and Lorenzo/Stoner moderated their pace...).

Great insight. What about if Rossi was on a Honda? Or Spies?
