Hey guys I am new to the forum and I have come across some very interesting news about the possibility of Indy next year taking the place of Turkey. According motoliam.com latest blog its official that Indy will happen next year. Also my dad just had surgery done on his shoulder by Dr. Art Ting who does alot of repair on the MotoGP riders. My dad told me that he was asked to be the head of the medical staff at Indy as he is at Laguna. So it looks like we will see 2 American GP's next year

Excerpt: "The real reason we're all here: This really hits the nail on the head. More Americans are getting out to the International races, and although there were definitely more people here than in 2005, there's a lot of room for improvement. Now that Turkey has officially been replaced with Indianapolis in 2008, I'm hoping more people catch the racing bug and start venturing out from behind their tv's and computers."

Welcome to the forum. Great news. Please post a link to the information if you can. Thankz.

I am dying to know if the smaller capacity bikes will be at Indy or if it will be another half GP. And whats the word on the track layout, are they building a new one or what?

welcome noodle. we all new indy was a possibility. it looks almost positive now. i hope they do a good job with it... cause i'm gonna be there!!!

Turkey vs Indy.......................... trade off imo

Hi noodler!

It is ..... for us as spectators but good for the sponsorship cause. It is shame that motoGP has to go to race round a car-park in place of one of the best tracks on the calendar but that's business. Hopefully it'll catch on so good they'll build a great circuit. It's also good for frosty

Doubt it.

Agree. I just saw the Turkey race again last night, man that's a great circuit, perhaps one of my favorites, and now its gone. Damn it!

But I'm happy they will come twice to the States. Sorry, I'm selfish.

i watch ama at indy last week on tv and it does not look fit to host motogp. there racing inches away from a wall then a crappy infield, and if they dont also host the smaller classes as well it will be a fcking .... trade off from the great event at turkey. and i bet the first rider who speaks out about it will bw labled a whinner.
dorna wooed by greenbacks me thinks.

give it a chance rog. i know it's a very poor trade off for turkey, a great track indeed, but the turks .... canned it, not dorna.

There you go again, shitting on the USGPs. Did you see the WSBK races last weekend? That dude in Monza almost was decapitated has he hi that one barrier when he highsides. Dude, that track is dangerous. Don't worry, they will fix Indy, that was part of Dorna's stipulations.

As far as who will whine first, probably Rossi, he's a big whiner.

I will give it a chance if they take the small classes and host a real GP round. Otherwise it will be filed into the "joke" pile with laguna seca.

i do hope they bring the 125s & 250s. if they don't i'll be very dissapointed indeed...

Hi Skid, this is what I think. Well the official concern was that it was too close to Laguna (if you consider about 1000 miles too close). Which smells like ........ to me. I just think that Indy has a better executive team. They see that MotoGP is growing and see the potential for revenue and prestige. I've been to Indy, and frankly, I will be impressed if they can pull it off. It’s really a four-wheel venue at the moment. The F1 track doesn't impress me either. But I do know this; Indy is well organized and can attract big ratings. This is perhaps the one thing that the Miller executives lack (not that I know much insider information, but as a casual onlooker, this is the impression I get). Miller is very new, so I imagine the people in charge are still learning the ropes. The thing is that it’s really a world-class venue with zero world-class experience. I expect to see something major their in about 5 years. The idea behind Indy is that it’s centrally located among highly populated cities in the east coast. But that to me doesn’t hold enough water. People will travel wherever in the US if it’s a great enough event. Thousands of people travel to Laguna and Daytona, which are on opposite sides of the country (3000+ miles). Besides, going to a MotoGP is an event, unlike say, going to a local game. The idea that it’s close or far isn’t the deal maker/brake in annual events. Miller reminds me of some of the newer tracks on the GP circuit like Turkey and China and Malaysia. They are clean, purpose built tracks with plenty of high-speed curves and run-off for safety. But it seems to me Dorna was more impressed by what the Indy executives said about increasing revenue and popularity in the US, which for me is an untapped market at the moment.

You sounded so smart, but then you had to come out with some emotional ........ response. Look the 125s and 250s are cool, and I would want to see them, but I agree with Randy Mamola, in that they are not the main event and to an extent draw away from it. The premiere class is a stand alone, it doesn't need the sideshow to make it prestigious. Get over it. Laguna is an excellent venue and a great event.

I disagree, the premier class is not stand alone, it is just the superior of 3 classes. The other two make up at least half the event for me, and at times are more exciting. I think removing the smaller classes reduces the grand prix prestige and makes it into more of a big corporate run money show. Laguna is an average venue, the circuit is average and last season the track fell apart.

Does F1 have a side show? Uhm...

Now you are exaggerating to try to make a weak point. No it didn't fall apart. I didn't see riders falling off the edge. You must be thinking about Rossi's engine that fell apart.

1. Not to the same extent but i don't think Motogp should be trying to be just like F1, because F1 has some issues that Motogp will also pick up when it becomes obsessed with being a money driven standalone circus for celebrities and rich people.

2. The track was in an unacceptable condition for a world championship meeting.

1. F1, for whatever you agree or disagree, is considered hands down the pinnacle of car racing. Something, MotoGP aspires to become in motorcycles (though at the moment WSBK is fast aproaching). Sideshows, are just that, sideshows.

2. Why, did Rossi complain? All the tracks have issues, and some unforseen forces of nature like heat, oh, should we cancel Qatar because of alittle sand? Please, you are exaggerating and trying to convince yourself.

jumk as long as gps exist world superbikes will NEVER be the pinnacle of 2 wheeled motorsport..... NEVER!
