With Nicky and Honda's resurgence,do you think he will be the favorite to win Laguna next week. The bike appears very competetive and Nicky seems to have learned how to ride it. The way he has dominated the first 2 races there, im going out on a limb and calling for a win.

With his previous results at Laguna and the fact that honda and michelin finally seem to be on the right track you'd have to put Nicky as definate favourite to win. Hopefully Stoner or Chris V can but I'd put my money on Hayden.

Yes.

That is all.

Until Donnington, I was worried that Nicky would languish in 8th place at Laguna. Now that he has shown some speed and scored two consecutive podiums, he is my pick to win the USGP. Nicky's awesome ride today really makes it hard not to pick him to win.

One thing that has me worried, however, is Rossi's lowside in Germany. I'm afraid he's really pissed and the effects will spill over to Laguna. I think The Doctor is the potential spoiler. He knows he screwed up big time and will be even more determined to win.

Of course, all of this is assuming the Michelins work.

I'd be putting my money on Hayden ... Rossi will be determined but you would think that Nicky will be VERY determined and he must have a bit of renewed confidence/belief now!

I'd like to see him win (if none of the aussies do)

Rossi's been really determined before and binned it (Valencia last season). He was really determined last time at Laguna and blew his bike up. I don't think that he'll be a threat.

Nicky knows that track like no other and he just showed us how much he has learned/changed about riding the bike.

I will say it right now, Nicky is going to win it. And, I'll be there to see it live!

I'll be sure to post pics of him on the top step of the podium for you guys.

I think Hayden still has the edge given that Honda's have improved remarkably. Also, the track is quite technical and still fairly new for a lot of the riders.

What about ChrisV...he was very unlucky to loose last year...you know he was leading!!!...he has to be one of the favourite contenders too!!!

I think he'll be up there for sure, but Nicky has this track dialed. It will take an act of god to stop him from winning, IMO. I wouldn't have said the same if he were looking like he did at the start of the season, but based on the last few races I think it will hold true.

Do you think the Suzuki is as good as last year???

And how about the Yamaha compared to Honda?

I think the Suzuki is as good as last year if not better.
The Yamha is a much better qualifyer this year and have a better chassi.
Honda still have some work to do but I'm sure Hayden will be in the mix.

What I wonder about is how much the power influence the speed at Laguna. Is there straights/uphills enough to make it count?

Top speed will not be an issue at Laguna.low end and mid range power are musts [slow corners and a big uphill section] then you have the corkscrew.Mess it up and you kill your lap and it is easy to mess up.

You dont think he'll be a threat??Did you think Rossi wasnt a threat at Assen?Rossi didnt have a good start at lastyears grand prix but began to do his usual, overtaking everyone in sight before his engine went bang....you cant write him out of anything!
I reckon it'll be a 3-way battle between Rossi, Hayden and Stoner

I don't think Hayden is THE favourite, he's one of them along with Rossi, Stoner and Pedrosa. The advantage of track knowledge he had with respect the other 3 I mentioned he will not have this year.

I'm hoping for a Dani win!
<
though if I had to pick ONE fav I would say Rossi, IMO he's got the best bike for that track.

Also the tyres will be vital, if Bstone has a clear advantage then we'll probably see a Casey win with Melandri near the top, otherwise, it'll be a Rossi vs Pedrosa vs Hayden fight.

Hayden may be favored for the race but if you are Honda Repsol, do you invest in Dani to win the race and possibly the MotoGP title for 2008 versus one race to the current champion?

Dani is the only Honda rider with a real shot at the title this year...so invest heavily and give team orders to make sure this happens.

if you had asked me at the start of the season the answer would have been no, but 2 podiums on the trot assen and germany, i would have to say he has a strong chance, i recon laguna is going to be a very close race, i can feel it in my water.

Oh come on. Yes, he is THE favorite! I think his results at both of the previous Laguna Seca outings prove this.

Agreed, youd have to be mad to bet against Nicky at Laguna.

If only to prove what Ive always said, he can only win at Laguna

No seriously, the last few races have shown that Nicky has what it takes. I dont mean that funny, but its been said all along, he needs to win more races. I think Nicky is showing what he's made of this year, he's not winning, but he's fighting brilliantly, and I think we all wanna see the current champ doing the damage.

I admit, I wasn't overly impressed last season by him playing the percentage game, but it worked, he got the title. Now he's looking like a defending champ out there, and it's great to see.

At the end of the day, when you are riding against guys of the calibre of Stoner, Rossi and Pedrosa (on a good day) 2 podiums on the hop is not to be sneezed at.

Props to the farmboy!

Pete

Well he's the king of Laguna, so you'd have to say yes. However, its never that straight forward come race day. I think Stoner and Hopper will push him hard.
