<{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>In all honesty... why is there a waste of thread on Hayden??? To all Hayden fans, the guy is NOT what you make him out to be.
He is only average at best, who somehow got his lucky shot at MotoGP and won the championship..... but we all know how he won it, not by being the most fastest or DOMINANT rider, BUT by playing it safe and riding on the BEST machine that year(Honda), and by capatilizing on other riders mistakes. THAT'S IT.
Yeah he is exciting for you fans, especially you Americans because on TV he looks like a 'bull rider' with his upright stance on the bike and aggressive cornering..... BUT the guy is not as fast as he looks on TV or how you fans would like to think he is regardless of how hard he tries or how dedicated he is to racing. That's just my opinion.....you can say what you want about the guy, but that's just how i see him.
Any rider with any talent whatsoever and a Repsol Honda ride can win a world championship. That's why Sete Gibernau, Tohru Ukawa, Max Biaggi, Alex Barros and Dani Pedrosa are all MotoGP world champions and won their titles with ease whereas Hayden had to win his on the final race of the season. What a poor rider he is.
I love bull riding, you're absolutely right, that's the only reason I, and my fellow yanks, like him. If I couldn't relate his riding to some sort of hillbilly pastime then I couldn't be bothered.
He isn't as fast as he looks on TV, I noticed the same thing when I went to Laguna Seca 2005 and Valencia 2006. At Laguna when he managed his gap to everyone behind him I kept thinking: 'Yeah I guess keeping Colin Edwards and Valentino Rossi absolutely at bay is sort of impressive, but after watching so many races on TV I was thinking he would be able to gap them by something more along the lines of a second a lap.' And when he was at Valencia reeling Bayliss in only to do the smart thing and ride conservatively to win a world championship, I remember thinking: 'I know he's got the championship wrapped up if he stays where he is, but according to my TV he can go so much faster than this so why settle for third when you could win or throw it all away trying.'
Lots of people try to discredit Hayden because he was slow to get it and now has to start again with the 800. Fact is he came to MotoGP having never seen any of the tracks and by the end of his rookie season he was a consistent top five guy. Had a rough start to 2004 but started coming good tail end, same for 2005 but finished quite strong that year. After his title he's struggled with the 800, can't seem to get his head around the Honda. The talent level is there, he's just on the wrong package at the moment. Personally I think that will change with the move to Ducati, thus dedicating an entire thread to him. So sorry to eat up all your bandwidth.
And 2006 is what it is, you don't get lucky 16 rounds in a row and luck into a world championship.
