Actually Sepang 2015, and particularly a certain press conference there, was the last straw, because having previously blamed a crazy element of his fandom for the treatment of his rivals, and of Stoner of whom I was obviously a big fan in particular, it became very clear as Birdman who was a Biaggi fan back in the day had first pointed out to me, that Rossi was totally complicit and in fact orchestrates all this stuff.
I have continued to give him credit for his career achievements because I think he actually is a great rider, or was anyway. Now we have pretty much arrived where it was obvious we were going after Sepang 2015 with MM painted similarly to Stoner as the complete villain of the piece, I am not sure I can even be bothered recognising him as a rider any more. I certainly have no inclination to recognise his achievements to mollify his fans.

Go back through my posts for years and you will find 'cult of personality; appears a fair bit and yes, whilst I suspect that many 'fans' fall to this category is it the fault of the athlete, the 'fan' or the organiser who has the pedestal on which the athlete resides, or the media?

IMO, the cult of personality exists at many levels and is a bane on sports/entertainment, with the capability to turn many smart, intelligent and well mannered people into jibbering masses of cells that are unable to utter a singular meaningful comment as they are so paralysed by their blind love/hatred of their chosen one
I have always actually agreed with you that Rossi can’t be blamed for taking the advantages which have been available to him in terms of tyres etc over the years, he would have been a fool not to do so, and it was no different with other top riders in the past such as Doohan etc.
What has really turned me off is his orchestration of the campaigns of vilification against opposing riders, with MM the latest victim as was always inevitable, ironically by the same people for exactly the opposite of what Stoner was vilified for, which was for making similar complaints to those Rossi is making now except in regard to much more egregious behaviour than MM’s from Rossi.

I'll tell you why. It's that you just can't stand the fact that there are non-believers who are apparently happy and well adjusted without needing to bow to the god Flossi, because it undermines the illusion upon which your imagined glory and fragile self-worth are based. Same as religious ........ who are incapable of just being happy living in the delusion that they are the "chosen people" and that they are "saved" because their imaginary friend in the clouds looks upon them with favor, as they fill the pockets of the mortal preachers with their tithings and wear shiny metal things on chains around their neck. That's not enough. They can't be happy unless they have their people go on the telly and excoriate non-believers telling them how depraved they are and how they should suffer for their non-belief. They do this in the vain hope that they can vanquish the plague of painful self-doubts about the feeble belief system on which they predicate a sense of happiness and accomplishment which in truth - they've done nothing to deserve.
Boppers are exactly the same. They can't bare the idea that someone out there in the wide world might be living proof that their belief system is based on delusion and pathological cognitive dissonance that lets them believe that Rossi cares about them as much as they care about him as they strut about in hundreds of dollars of Rossi T-shirts, Rossi caps, Rossi shoes, Rossi wristwatches, Rossi ......, Rossi earbuds, Rossi cologne, Rossi sunglasses, Rossi jackets, Rossi helmets, Rossi butt-plugs, whilst driving Rossi-themed street bikes etc, when in fact your imaginary friend only cares about having you stroke his ego and seeing your money in his bank account.

Id have to say that rossi is trying harder to manipulate Marc. than he did Stoner. And Dorna are more blatantly bowing to his crap.
I just get the feeling that Stoner was less likely to put up with rossi and rossi was aware of that. Eg. rossi wearing a helmet when going to apologise to Stoner.
Reality is though all of rossis crap just looses him admirers and sends them to his foe. Plus they all get more immune to his dirty tricks. Eg. Marc. Knew what to do at the corkscrew with rossi. And he now knows to never overtake rossi on the outside .... hence why I believe rossi may have planned the Marc. took me out on the inside dive.
