VALENTINO ROSSI AND NICKY HAYDEN TEST THE DUCATI GP12 AT JEREZ



Having carried out the first “shakedown” at Jerez de la Frontera today with positive results, Franco Battaini and Vittoriano Guareschi tomorrow will leave the bike in the hands of Ducati Marlboro Team factory rider Valentino Rossi, who returns to the Andalusian circuit five days after having competed there in the Spanish Grand Prix. Saturday will be the turn of Rossi’s teammate, Nicky Hayden, who returns to Spain following a promotional appearance in Germany.



While the development of the GP11 proceeds at full speed according to the directions of the Test Team and Battaini, Rossi and Hayden will be supported by a structure comprising engineers and mechanics from the factory team, with Technical Director Filippo Preziosi overseeing the operation as usual.



Any word on what configuration and displacement they settled on.
 
Will this test be closed? I'm wondering if we might see some pictures of the GP12?

To be fair, in Jum's eyes, Hayden is only apart of the test team. So the only one getting any benefit out of this is The Great One. Just sayin'...

So what are the rules when the GP12 chassis ends up with an 800cc GP11 engine in it and lines up on the grid in a race this year? I have no doubt that this will occur and it is highly likely that the new major updated chassis they are expecting in the next couple of races are probably currently labelled GP12.



If this happens then we can expect a blind eye from Dorna.

In one respect, the same number of test for everyone is fair. Another way of looking at it would be, a team that is behind would benefit from extra testing more than the teams that are historically ahead of the curve.For instance, say Honda or Yamaha had their 2012 bike sorted after the normal mandated tests and Ducati was still searching. The season starts and the sorted out bikes dash to a large points lead while Ducati lags behind. Compare that to a scenario where Yamaha or Honda have their bikes sorted and Ducati is lagging behind, BUT, the extra test allows them to find something that erases the advantages that Yamaha and Honda had gained in the original mandated test time. You could argue that the extra test were built in for a certain team or rider. Just a thought

Even if this is the case, really I dont see them even giving it a second look. Its still a prototype, so they could pretty much do whatever they want with it. Same would apply to all the other manufacturers too, yeah? Thats probably how they are getting the riders to test the gp12.



It more than likely is the gp12, just made slightly illegal, like having the displacement changed slightly. (the signed riders arent allowed to test anything that qualilifies as a motogp bike). Doing that, no one is technically breaking the rules, they are just playing around on a new bike that ducati have made for some reason or another

While the 800cc engine may fit the 1000cc frame, I doubt the development of the 1000cc bikes will be directly compatible. More torque = more wheelies. Imo, they will have to rearrange how the pieces fit together even if all of the components are basically identical to the 800cc bike. Still the same tires so I could be wrong, but I think engines and riders will have to move to the front of the bike.

Which is the kind of bike Rossi likes.
 
I wonder about using the 2012 parts tested this year too,but I would guess anything is allowed as every make is allowed to to an extra test.

It could very well happen too ,especially with Ducati's bike I would think.As Rossi/Burgess probarbly are trying for soulutions for both 2011 and 2012 at the same time.

The 2012 engine might be as smooth now as the evolution of the 2011 could be by the Brno test.



Ofcourse Ducati is benefitial of this extra test,but on the other hand there will be new regulations and maybe this makes things more equal 2012 as maybe some new team could have use for it? Maybe not.But one of the ideas with 1000 engines at least might have been to get closer racing,this testing might help it ,I hope.

Well coming from a guy who thinks Ducati is NOT doing anything special to help Rossi, I doubt you'd understand. My post made no mention of Rossi, did it? But now that I think of it, I'd say its advantageous, considering he's been struggling, for him to get this extra testing time, which without this circumventing of the rules, he would not have otherwise gotten. Btw, not all advantages have to be 'illegal', he got preferential treatment to switch on Bstones, and that was totally done legally. In fact, all the advantages I could think of have been gained legally, he legally had exclusive tires made exclusively for him, all legal, and all very advantageous. He was legally given a 10 sec penalty rather than ride through, legally. Rossi struggled all winter, somehow magically Dorna announced it would give everybody and extra hour of practice this year, legally. Sure, everybody gets it, but circumventing rules will probably be the order of the day, as technically, they can test .... for the GP11, and say its GP12 stuff.



But yeah, J4rno, nothing extraordinary is happening at Ducati according to your reality, its testing as usual. Nothing to see here, move right along everybody. (sarcasm)

Thanx for the help. Oh, I was thinking, wouldn't it be cool, if similar to 06 testing duties, that the tester goes on a role of consistently good results? Well, one podium down. I think I will join the Rossi Faithful on a collective rain dance. Rain rain let it rain!
