Formula 1 2009

Also, how stupid is this diffuser argument, the FIA have ok'd the interpretation of the rules taken by those in question, yet they have to wait until the season starts (testing is banned) and they have no reaction time before a load of underqualified stewards can decide if it's ok or not.

Wow. This is slimey and petty, even by Bernie's 'modest'

ethical standards.

Bernie refuses to pay Brawn the $ Honda earned last year. Just because he can....

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE <div class='quotemain'>Despite the recent management buyout-out and the 2009 car's sterling test pace, the future of Brawn GP reportedly remains under a very dark cloud.

In the decisions of the World Council meeting earlier this month, it was noted that despite the Brackley-based team simply requesting a name-change, Brawn would in fact be considered a 'new entry' for this season.

"The contract the team had with the FIA was to run as 'Honda', which they are no longer in a position to do," the FIA said.

Outwardly, the technicality has resulted in Brawn shifting to the very bottom of the pitlane, and being assigned the lowest race numbers for 2009.

But we noted last week that new teams usually must wait to receive full revenue entitlements according to F1's commercial agreements.

It is on this point that the Swiss specialist publication Motorsport Aktuell expresses concerns about the survival of the Mercedes-powered team. It claims that Brawn could not simply change its name to Brawn, therefore keeping Honda's financial status, because while the teams unanimously agreed, Bernie Ecclestone exercised his veto.

Brawn is therefore missing about 22 million (euro) of its projected 2009 budget, in a state of affairs that could date back to a news item in February.

Then, we reported that managers Ross Brawn and Nick Fry turned down the F1 Chief Executive's offer to help complete the buyout.

"They should have taken what I offered," Ecclestone was quoted as saying.

"It was a very good offer for everybody concerned. It gave them complete protection but they wanted to do things on their own. Now all we can do is hope and pray," Ecclestone added.

2. Not everyone at a motogp race is a 'motorsport fan' if you apply the same standard
3. The pinnacle of motorsport/ bike racing/ or anything for that matter is difficult to agree on because everyone has a different set of criteria by which to judge, and gives different weights to different aspects. I consider F1 to be the pinnacle of motorsport by MILES, some think its world superbike, some might think its NASCAR and some might think that glamour, awareness, ratings, crowd sizes and money are irrelevant and be sure that their local minimoto race is the pinnacle of all motorsport.

1. How do you know the reason I follow F1?
2. I know not everyone at motogp races are not motorsport fan...i'm arguing about the number of attendees, not which one has more "true" motorsport fans
3. You have a point, and I quite agree with you. The thing that made me rant this one, is when people start saying "can motogp even hold a candle to F1"...coz that comment is a whole different story.

get it?

1. OK maybe watch F1 against your free will, if thats the case i'm sorry.

2. Exactly, if you aren't aruing about which one has more 'true motorsport fans' as you put it, why did you even mention it. It was irrelevant

3. No i don't get it, because i don't think motogp can hold a candle to F1

- you truly are funny Tom. Can't I watch something I've been following for years without acknowledging that there are things I don't like about the sport? Have I said I don't like it? Is saying it has more minus than plus must mean I would not watch the sport any longer? You know what, don't answer, I might die from laughing!

2. Oh I'm sorry, yeah, reviewing what I said, it was indeed irrelevant. But, dear Tom, can you not see determine the argument I was driving at? was the phrase clouding you or something? I'm so sorry for whatever confusion my irrelevant phrase might have caused you.

3. Okay

I think FIA is not a competent organisation to handle something as big as F1 at least not in the current state.
The diffuser issue was known a month ago and they've done nothing about it. Which will lead into a protest by the teams in the GP (already happened) so now the race stewards will have to take a decision against the clock. Whatever they decide is gonna be appealed by the losing side, which means FIA will have to make an International court of appeal hearing, which means if one of the accused team wins the race, we wont really know the winner until several weeks later when it's decided in that hearing.

The so called FIA technical department should have to power and the quickness to say if things are legal or not let's say in a couple of weeks.

Other than that, very excited about F1 season starting!!

I think we are on different pages here, obviously there is nothing wrong with acknowledging the things you don't like about the sport, everyone does it because nothing is perfect. All i was saying is that if the things you didn't like about it outweighed the things you do like, you wouldn't watch it. Nobody does anything unless the pro's outweight the cons.

Sorry i just don't see the point of your rant. Do you have an issue with people comparing motogp and F1 at all? Or just have a problem with the idea that someone could say F1 is easily better? I don't see why either is a problem, both seem valid enough to me.

Totally agree with this. I expect Ferrari to lead the way but there is bound to be a surprise in store somewhere along the line

just watched practice,2..wont say anything about it.(spoiler) the cars look well ugly though

its on most of the day freeview 302 regular loop and the red button job chit.prob $ky.virgin.etc

2 teams look like there really struggling though..

Can someone link for a site that has free live stream of F1?

If not, I guess I can use TVU players instead, but the quality is really ...... with it.

Well from what we've seen in quali it's pretty safe to say a Brawn is gonna win this race.

The Toyotas will start from the back of the grid due to cheating so I think the 3rd podium position is quite open, Vettel, Rosberg, Kubica, Ferrari ...

Hamilton is starting from the back I guess he changed his gearbox. Not that makes much difference since starting from P15 points were unlikely anyway.

Remember tonight we switch to stupid summer time so beware to wake up in time!

Exciting stuff so far!! I can't wait for the race, even though the seasons true pattern wont be known for a little while, when we get a bit of development and back to normal tracks. According to the fuel loads Brawn are heavier and faster than their nearest rivals, so they should be on for a win tomorrow barring disaster. Mclaren had a bit of a nightmare, but hopefully Lewis, or the Toyotas can show us how much the new rules have actually helped passing.

I am soooo pleased for Jenson to get this pole! The guy had sold his soul for zero return, and hopefully come tomorrow he will get some reward.
Was getting real bored with F1, but I can feel a vintage season coming on.
Shame the cars look like a smacked arse though!

Same here.

Maybe he'll use his pole to get some Virgin's tonight.

Yep, taking full advantage of this.

what a debut for a team other than a pole and a 1st place in podium tomorrow perhaps?, this qualy was a nice way to start the season, good for the Brawn team, hehe Barrichello seems to be in shape

, and 3d Vettel was nice. can't wait for the race
