I have hated Pedro/Puig ever since the crap that went on when Hayden was with Honda. But the little .... is starting to win me over with his consistency, determination and riding style. He doesn't appear to be talking much trash these days and seems to be humbled by the difficulty of actually winning a championship at this level. He has overcome injuries and doubt and put together some great races and appears to be able to mix it up a bit now. I am really going to hate the little ....... if he makes me a fan. It's going to be interesting to see how he handles having Stacey in the garage. I think if Honda is going to get a championship I had still rather see Stacey get it. But I now have allot of respect for Pedro as I think he realizes it's going to take more than just enormous talent to win it all.

I feel exactly the same way! But I'm far from being a fan!

I have to really agree with you on that one. I hated at first how he never showed any emotion on the podium he still looked pissed off. He's been growin on me the last 2 seasons and I'm glad he's challenging Lorenzo this second half of the season (even tho i am a lorenzo fan and will be more when rossi leaves).

As for you rather having Stoner win the title w/ Honda, gotta disagree with you. All personal opinions of course but I can't stand Stoner as a human being, great rider of course but I dont want him to win anything else haha.

bojuhl you are not the only one that has warmed up to Dani, I have as well since Nick left Honda. I do think the little dude has uber talent on a motorcycle but it has taken him time to learn how to deal with the fans. Smiling and waving to the fans lateley is helping folks warm to him as well. All Dani needs now are photo's of him with big ..... Spanish chicks.

I don't think I will ever warm up to Puig though.

edit...I forgot to mention, Dani has to be cooler now since having his picture made with Jumkie

i am soooooo glad someone else has come out of the closet. I am a rossi fan (like lorenzo and colin and hayden) but that ickle man this year has actually grown up by grown up i obviously mean in talent/skills and mental attitude not height. He actually has made me even more of a fan when i saw him on stage at silverstone. But i will never ever be a stoner, i like the name stacey wondered who the hell you was chatting about for me its down to the personality. Hope Pedders has a good end to the season and does fantastic next year - it should be a good one for all camps

I was willing him on last Sunday, but thats only because i didnt want Moaner to win im afraid. Still doesnt show enough fight im my opinion.

I have cooled on my hate for Dani over the years. 4 years ago on a Sunday morning, i really believe i could have killed him, just pulled his head off. Im still not a fan of his, of the 4 aliens i would rather see win, he is 3rd on the list. If he were to .... can Puig, i might learn to even like the little hobbit.

Dani is being less of a ..... and he is producing. He's been a good source of entertainment as of late b/c he is defying Honda more than ever, but this is his most successful season, imo, b/c he has 4 wins. If he can throw Emporer Puig into the reactor core, he might be a likable character.

I think this was his turning point.

People erroneously think that because some of us are not fans that we cannot appreciate his amazing talent. I'll say that again, people erroneously think that because some of us are not fans that we cannot appreciate his amazing talent! I've felt bitter sweet seeing him first hand ride some of his best at GPs I've attended. Last year at Indy, he dominated. Yes, he crashed, and I can't say I felt sorry for him; but he got back up and finished strong and kept charging up the field, which gained some respect from me. Just because he is fast doesn't mean he's become a decent human being, if people can't perceive the difference, no amount of explanation will help. This thread reminds me of some of our .... athletes who are given a pass because they win. Pedro starts winning and out comes a mini love fest, hahaha. I'll remind you guys when he undoubtedly starts taking cowardly shots at Casey next year. I think Pedro has made some gains but he's still a turd. His riding talent has never been the question, and lately he's shown fantastic ability. I'm not gonna sit here and ignore the fact that much of series has been tailored around his style, otherwise we might see a different result. Most casual spectators make this mistake out of ignorance, as I seriously doubt he'd look this good if everything wasn't his way (as the start of this season showed).

There was a moment however that I was impressed with Dani's character, which frankly means more to me when considering who I root for, it was after the Tomizawa tragedy, his presence of mind to downplay his win and spend most of his time giving condolences was very impressive because I felt it was genuine. I'll tell you I don't have the same dislike I did the previous years, but he's not on my Xmas list. If you feel like being a fan of his, just take a look at how he's treated his teammate since he's come into the series, which frankly still to this day has not changed much. Character counts people.

never had a problem with dani,he would not have been the first hothead that crashed his teammate out of a championship.

but i do have a very big problem with puig...

look at it this way : regardless of the cool mask and everything, did anybody ever despise darth vader?but we sure as hell all hated the evil emperor

As long as he beats JL he's aight

Seriously though yeah he's grown on me..i still think a rider/bike weight rule should be imposed though.

I don't think he is near the .... turd he used to be. I think those high speed ... rides through the gravel, injuries and competition have humbled him a bit. His demeanor in post race interviews is much different these days. Although I am certainly not ready to start humping his leg just yet.

Agree buddy, yes, I did mention the guy has changed a bit. And I'll add to your post above, he's getting older, which generally means wiser. (Though I seem to be the exception to that rule, as I fear I may be getting dumber in my old age.)

Good interesting thread. I'm the reverse. I was a huge fan of Dani when he raced 125's and 250's, for his race brain and sheer finesse, and the speed with which he adapted to the 990 was astonishing - and the way in which he overcame his fear and inability in the wet admirable. If you want a visual lesson in how to clinically ride a racing motorcycle look no further than Dani. When we gatecrashed the Repsol hospitality Q&A session courtesy of the brilliant Cali Kid and the lovely Stacey (see Laguna thread), I told him how incredible I find it watching his refined technique, more specifically his ability to effortlessly flick the old 990 and the speed in which he picks up a bike out of a corner and gets on the throttle. He beamed from ear to ear with genuine pleasure. I asked him which he preferred to ride, the 990 or the current 800's and he replied that the 990's were more fun, while the 800's were less forgiving and required infinitely more precision and skill. For that reason, the 800's because they were more challenging. Good on 'im. I must say he was amiable and happy to talk. It has long been said that he possesses a very sharp sense of humour away from the racetrack. He takes racing very seriously, and it simply isn't in his demeanor to exhibit this at the 'day job'.

It is a contentious thing to say, but I think that he would have been in the shadow of Kato at HRC, and probably having failed to deliver a championship in five attempts would be destined for Moto2 next year - if indeed he had lasted that long. Frighteningly talented he may be, given his preferential treatment at HRC, refusal to challenge Uncle Alberto, and the appalling treatment of Nicky which he was clearly complicit to, I really can't help disliking him as an individual.

If he regains his ability to fight and swap paint like he was able to do in his 125 and 250 days I really believe he will be near unstoppable. This formula - the grand design of HRC and driven by the MSMA is finally playing into his hands. His manager meanwhile needs to find and don some kid gloves by next season.

I agree with Curve about exploring the possibility of ballast - but I can foresee some situations where this actually might be beneficial as opposed to a handicap.

Ah, I'm still basking in the afterglow of that find weekend. Yeah, meeting Dani moved me to not dislike him as much. Which is funny because when I met Alberto Puig at Indy, it actually made me dislike him even more, the prick.

Dani, as I said is an amazing talent and his riding ability must be admired. But as I said, he's not on my Christmas list.

Tis why I admire you my friend, you eloquently make distinctions and speak to what is the reality of the situation. He was certainly a dirtbag while Nicky was his teammate, and I agree, his fortunes might have been completely different had he been in the shadow of a #1 rider. I can only hope he will be eventually relegated to Moto2 after his Nth attempt at a title (having given every possible tool to do so). But considering that Puig and Carmelo are golfing buddies, I very much doubt it will happen. Forget about rider/bike weight adjustments, it won't happen in this sport.

welcome to the dark side.. smirks evilly

there was a time, not all that long ago, when i was on a one woman mission to defend his honour against all the haters on this forum. i'm happy to say a general "i told you so" to anyone that may remember.
<

I do however have the exact same view on his fellow compatriot, i used to hate (and i mean it that strongly) Lorenzo, but since his jump up to the top class he's won me over. Who says people never change aye..

Some people change... most don't. I think personality-wise he's got the typical short-guy Napoleon complex going,

coupled with arrogance much fed and fired up by his ....-head manager, combined with a general shyness which

is perceived as "lack of personality". I don't think he's changed so much as taken account of the massive critisism

of his ...... little attitude. He can only get away with his attitude because he's a talented racer. If not for racing -

the only job he'd be qualified for would be tampon. Just because Pedrobot has been programmed to shyly smile

at the crowd and wave - don't be fooled into thinking he's a changed person.

Yeah, I think Jumkie started calling him Emperor Puig. I like the Star Wars comparison. Makes you believe that the rotten little kid who nearly sabotaged Hayden's championship might have a chance at redemption.
