FINALLY CONFIRMED!! Ducati Welcome Lorenzo

Genuine question for anyone ........ am I the only one wondering as to whether we are seeing the early indications of Rossi taking over control of the Yamaha factory team post retirement (my conspiracy theorist mind working overtime) as there is no way he would want JL and now has the very opportunity to mentor riders to take over the reins so to speak ?

I said this on the Silly Season 2016 thread, I genuinely think that Rossi will take over the Yamaha factory team in 2019 as team manager and will have it be part of his VR46 racing team....we will end up with a VR46 Yamaha Moviestar Factory Racing....

This is a Lorenzo thread and Rossi in mentioned probably ten times as much as him.

"I'm so obsessed that I'm becoming a bore, oh no" -James

You have noticed that Rossi does take up a lot of some members time....which is funny since they almost universally hate him....and yet Rossi continues to eat away at their time and lives as illustrated by their posts on this and several other threads on this forum....

Back on topic....I am very happy to see JLo on the Ducati....I want Team Red to win another title....I am a Ducati fan and think JLo with Gigi is a great combo....Good that JLo has the guts to try and hopefully succeed!

I hate this ..... that you need to "win on different manufacturers" to be considered a great.

Me too, and it is an argument currently overused in defence of Rossi and to attack Marquez and Lorenzo, who has so far only won on a single manufacturer. Ironic though, that those same people don't consider Stoner a great, and he has won on different manufacturers.

Rossi left in a fit of ego because he demanded all the control, credit, and preferential treatment. Honda wanted to point out they were responsible for engineering a great machine (how mean of them) Yamaha at the time wanted to offer Lorenzo equal support (a crime, i know). Rossi saying "it takes balls to switch" is ........, he didn’t switch for that reason himself and was clearly trying to goad Lorenzo. I don't believe Lorenzo left Yamaha over goading. I don't believe he was too affected by Rossi's ongoing petulant behavior, the problem was his employer not only allowed Rossi to foment dissonance but worse Yamaha contributed to the debacle by publicly backing up VR for an indefensible act. I don't believe Jorge left over money, a new challenge, or to prove something he had already proved at Yamaha (like Julian Ryder hypothesized on a whim in coach, and I'm sure the message will be echoed by his colleagues); I think Jorge left Yamaha because he places human relationships who conduct themselves with principles for life, such as honor, respect, honesty, and fairness above other tangibles.

Great post.

Why would he apology when he believes that his accusations are indeed truthful??? Millions of people agree with him as well.

Lorenzo believed his thumbs down was being truthful at the time, so why whould he have apologised?

Maybe Lorenzo is penny counting Scrooge who dances naked on a full moon night. Who knows?

If anyone knows, it's Libby.

I didn't realize that stating your feelings in a press conference equates to launching a hate campaign. But I guess your vastly superior intelligence tells you otherwise.

Again, works both ways.

hey PIEman, how many titles do you have??

10, one more than the GOAT ;)

Interesting notion, maybe Jorge has gotten inside info about change afoot in the team. If that were to happen, who knows if he would get favourable treatment?

I think mentally, he will thrive at Ducati. He will have a team rallied around him, with a low maintainence team mate and if a rider is in the right place in his head, then he rides much better too.

I for one am excited about 2017!

I'd but myself in the hopeful but skeptical column. I'm just not convinced that Lorenzo will adjust quickly to the bike. It will be interesting. No matter, I think he'll last longer than Crutchlow.

Yes 2017 will be exciting....and Yes, I very much think JLo saw the future of yamaha beyond the 2018 season and it wasnt in his best interests to stay any longer....

I do think Ducati will work for JLo, and I do see Gigi moving towards JLo riding style more than Casey's or Iannone's so JLo should do well there....fingers crossed...

Personally I am a bit the same.

I want Ducati to do well, and that means winning races and contending on a regular basis for podiums and wins.

Whilst I do reserve judgement in a lot of ways as to whether this is a good move for Lorenzo, I do not believe that he will in any way embarrass himself and do believe that he will likely do far better than most of the Ducati riders post Stoner.

But I do also need to say that I do think that he will work well with CS to develop the bike that is needed to take wins and titles throughout 2017 and I hope that the second rider, whomever they may be is also able to take advantage of the bike.

Whilst I agree in some way, I do not think that the JL v CS riding styles are that different as both were (and in JL's case, still is) able to hit the same line each and every time , somewhat metronomic but each looking far different.

JL is smooth, silky smooth whilst CS seems more aggressive, but when you watch them side by side or after the other they are actually very close to each other in a lot of ways.

I suspect that they will work well together with CS testing as JL wishes and both providing the feedback required

Hell, to throw more conspiracy theories, one could ask if there was forethought by Ducati

I have to say I don't think CS will bring any benefit to JLo's Ducati....their riding styles seem very different to me....and I've never been convinced about CS's development abilities....when you add those two factors together you end up with a scenarios that only JLo developing the Ducati with Gigi for himself will ensure their success.....I see CS contributions to serious development of the GP17 diminishing back to PR 'test' rider right after the Valencia 2016 test.....

I will go re-watch as much Casey v Lorenzo riding videos as i can find....just to see how similar they are...

On the highlighted I will take Kropotkin's comments (no offence intended) as a rider that can explain in acute and minute detail just what a bike is doing, where and when as well as reporting issues to engineers that were not believed until the motor blows up .......... to me, that skill and the ability to describe that to the media masses equates to the ability to develop a bike.

Of course, whether the team understood is another matter but to date, none of CS' teams have mentioned anything other than his excellence in recognising the minute detail.

With the similarities, watch the lines in particular but also the actual bodies of the two riders as they are quite similar, whilst being different (if that makes sense). Whilst CS looked aggressive given his preferred sliding style, when you watch the lines and corner speeds, the similarities are remarkable.

Who knows in regard to Stoner's development skills, given the I am sure entirely coincidental rule and tyre changes that followed championship wins by him. The one bike produced while he was unequivocally the lead rider for one of the two leading teams, the original version of the 2012 Honda before it was neutered by late rule changes followed by tyre changes, looked rather dominant in his hands however, and HRC still seem to have had troubles with the 2015 and early on the 2016 bike despite the continued presence on the team of Dani Pedrosa, credited by many for the 2011 bike; I suspect MM is riding around the bike's problems rather than them having been completely resolved.

Its Good career move for Lorenzo to go Ducati if he wants to try for goatdom .... goatness??

You have to win on the unwinnable bike to at least get a foot in ...
.
Rossi had the ambition but failed miserably because of his lack of talent ....

But maybe Lorenzo could win a few ....... but it'd be amazing and decisive for him to match the GOAT for wins on a Ducati.

Goatortality actually...

Fcuk you lot must have a lot of spare time on your hands.

FWIW I am looking forward to seeing Jorge on the Duc,
I reckon Gigi has already a plan for the 2017 for it to better suit Jorges riding style and needs, afterall as someone else said much much fcuking earlier they did work together on the 250 Aprilia, and Dovis style isn't dissimilar to Jorges,
Infact I'd hazard a guess that Dovi is the closest of all the others on the grid.

Let me guess: besides being an upper Midwest 'Murican, you are also a rabid Lorenzobopper?? Your ultimate goal is to get Lorenzo to apply for 'Murican citizenship. Tell the truth, 'Murica is watching you!

Go look at my post #194 on the silly season 2016 thread and you will see my feelings. Not hardly a Lorenzobopper...

Don't think i ever mentioned gay people did i?,as for snuffing me out, you're welcome to try,i've got a safe full of guns and plenty of ammo, send me a private message and i'll give you my address.

The factor that's so difficult to measure - is how well the engineers are able (even assuming they comprehend the rider's feedback 100%) to respond with fabrications and or adjustments to the million and one variables on a MotoGp bike to give the rider the needed changes.

I agree, with Lorenzo's different style of riding, that it will have to be him that leads development once he joins the team. He's no dirt tracker. Much as I admire him as a rider - I have to say, I expect he's going to have a pretty grim season next year. Hope I'm wrong.
