I can't believe not one of you has mentioned last year, how many points was Rossi behind Hayden? and then he closed that gap severely

it was 51 points and i think no one mentioned it because it's been said time and time again like this thread just another caseys a hero and vale's past it nonsense or thats how it will end up once the southern hemisphere boys come on line, but seeming i bothered to read it i may as well answer the question.

firstly, if you need to ask if rossi still has a chance then i think you no the answer to your question, it aint over till the fat lady sings but he does have a bit of a mountain to climb

secondly,of course rossi will fight to the end, he will fight to try and win and also to protect his second place just like in every other season he has raced in.

Well.. all I'm waiting to see is the new engine for the M1 at Brno. If Michelin did their homework and the new engine puts more power down, then it's going to be a spectacular race.

I doubt they change the development plan, and the plan is to test it on next monday. Expect the new engine to be seen first time in a race weekend the race after Brno.

rossi is a fighter i can see him coming back but stoner is too good

I doubt it. Nicky won the championship last year because he was consistently in and around the podium. Rossi has a few crashes and mechanical failures, this year he's only had tyre problems (except sachsenring. Stoner has been winning races, and hasn't made a single mistake. Plus, the second half of the season tends to suit the Ducati's...

But of course, Vale won't give up.

Man Rog, that's the longest sentence I've ever seen!

Stoner is the favorite. If I had to put money down, I would bet it on the Aussie.

However, after last year I don't think I would bet on anything. During a SPEED TV interview on last year's USGP weekend, I remember Rossi saying he was just going to ride for the win for the remaining races. Nicky's lead was huge and The Doctor didn't expect to make it up. Watching Rossi eat away a 51-point lead, gain the points lead after Nicky was crashed by his teammate, then give it all away in the final race makes me reluctant to write him off yet.

If you find yourself itching to engrave "Casey Stoner" into the championship trophy, just think about that yellow bike sliding into the gravel trap in Valencia.

No Chance any more! It's 2008 or beyond for The Doctor!

until its mathematically impossible i wouldn't be sure, but its gonna take something unthinkable to stop Casey now.

No Tom, mathematically yes but the answer is 'No'!

Casey has a 60 point lead, we talk about that as more than 2 race wins. However and in reality, with the ongoing mix up among the other point scoring positions, he could well sit it out for 4 races and still find himself in the lead, such has been his dominance this year. Is Casey going to be that unlucky? No!

Even if Casey dumps it for two races or three....Vale has to win win win...to have any chance...last year Vale was more determined then this year to beat Nicky...

I think with Vales problems with the bike, tyres, Casey Stoner, Ducati, Bridgestones, Tax Man, G/Friend etc etc he just doesn’t look the man he did in previous years. You know I was watching him throughout the FP’s, QP WU and pre race he usually waves to the cameras and has this jovial persona.

At Brno he didn’t have the same simpatico persona...there is something missing from Vale lately in 2007!!!..it's not good!!! motoGP needs Vale to be his usual self...oh but then again we will have Jorge Lorenzo in 2008...God Help Us!!!

Yeah, I think for sure this tax business was playing on his mind over the weekend! Combine that with the yamaha, michelin debacle at the moment and I can't see him getting many podiums or a race win at all! The suzukis and hondas and Stoner's duke all seem like much stronger bikes!

you make some goods points steve all of that would sure take my mind off my job.
i think its also the team not working properly, like the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing.
jb is saying to yam it's the engine and yam saying to michilin it's the tyres and half the world pointing the finger at vale. he is sure having a rough time, i bet he is thinking along with his fan's roll on 2008.

I said this last year, and got shot down in flames!

Maybe now I can suggest again that last year Vale lost focus, he went testing F1 in a balloon of media hype, there were too many planned celebrations, he wasn't completely on the ball.
I suggested this lack of focus would come back to haunt him, and perhaps this has come to light more than ever before this weekend at Brno. The tax problems, although probably in itself financially not a problem, should really have been dealt with before rather than allowing the media intervention to affect his persona at the race track.

The question really is,....Can Vale come back next year and challenge for number 8?

To answer the question. Yes he still has a chance, but very unlikey.

But the more interesting part of this thread was the comparisons to last year. What a stupid idea to compare the two seasons. They were/are completely different circumstances. And Tom, you are wrong, as usual, about the equipment Hayden had. You just keep on dreaming, but the rest of know you don't know .....

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(antfan @ Aug 13 2007, 04:34 AM) <div class='quotemain'>
The only difference being Stoner's form compared to Nicky's last year.. Stoner has won more races this year than Hayden will win in his career..

This is one good reason why your credibility is incredible. (What a stupid thing to say).

Does he? Do you think he may actually fight 'til the end?

Rossi will fight right up until the last lap of the last race and will never say die. You don't become a mulitiple World Champion without that sort of quality, you only have to look as far as Michael Schumacher who has the same attitude to work that out.
