Destructive Power of the Media- the end of reason.

He aint 6 foot 6 and covered in tatts and piercings, is he? Don't wanna upset the lad
<

No. However, whilst I think roger/chopper forgoes the tatts and piercings, he is possibly larger than that though.

I reckon you could be onto something there mick, being from Glasgow Scotland, we're used to relentless ..... weather and it def gets me down. I reckon its solely responsible for the dour attitude that us scots are known for. The weather down south, like London etc is generally quite a bit warmer than up here...they're lucky .......s...dont deserve it etc etc haha

From my experiences of scotland (which were confined to the tropical latitudes ie edinburgh, one of my favourite places in the world btw) petebass is in far more trouble from the cold than any that precipitation, casual or otherwise, would ever present.

Good grief. Hope I don't run into the guy, he might break me like a twig...

Don't worry, just point behind rog and say "oh look!! Vale in the nude!!" he'll run off in that direction ........ probably never come back either ......... unless he actually found Vale in the nude, and give a blow by blow description

Hehe, aye the east coast is generally drier but colder than the west which is just sodden most of the time. Edinburgh sits right on the edge of the forth so always feels quite a bit cooler. It is indeed a lovely city, nicer than Glasgow. The good thing about Glasgow though is if you drive out the city for half an hour-45mins you can be in the middle of nowhere, which is pretty cool. I'd say the people are friendlier also!

You, reckon the weather has anything to do with it? I'm not taking the piss, but I know when I haven't seen the sun for a while I start to feel... well, efen miserable! And I actually like overcast weather! I haven't been to the UK (will definitely go one day, though) but it seems like the sun is never out. Being from Wales, would you agree with that?

It must be said, Australians are 'knockers' as well. Thanks for sharing your insights...

A lot of it is the weather I think yes, and its getting worse. Which is why i'm getting out of here as soon as I can.

Wales is fookin soaking! I want to respray my car and i;m waiting for a 'a few dry warm days'...and have been since last yr! Its just the weather is so inconsistent here, its soul destroying.

Went out on the firth of forth on a boat, which was enjoyable. I went to a night rugby game at murrayfield in august, and the locals, better informed than I was, were all wearing balaclavas. As I have said to pete, god knows how they ever fought a battle at culloden, it must be arctic tundra.

Cardiff is a great place too, though.

Cardiff is awesome i'll admit, but you can only enjoy it so much in crap weather

This is a long term thing I have had with talpa (who is actually an aussie) and is only semi-serious these days.

I am certainly going for cal next year (unless valentino rides for kevin schwantz suzuki), and cal is admired by the australians on here almost universally, including by barry.

Oh ..... WTF will we be able to fight over??

The entire British Isles is warmed by the gulf stream which acts like central heating in the winter. Although we tend to get mild winters, on the other hand if a polar continental airmass migrates over from Siberia given our complete inability to cope with anything over a millimetre of snow we're ....... What is utterly miserable and intolerable is this all pervading damp, much like the Pacific Northwest. When the jet stream gets stuck and conveys endless processions of Atlantic depressions which can last months....summer gone. On the other hand a nice blocking high up from Saharan Africa or the Azores can divert prevailing low pressure systems like a boulder in a river and it's like So Cal - Silverstone always being the exception.

Funny Arrab, my other half is from near Seattle and while some areas are damp...they are nowhere near as damp as the UK I find

Agree with many points about the championship and the effects of politics, media, corruption, and all the ......... And .... the media and all the lames brains that buy into Fox.

Name any premier class world champion, or any world champion in any real sport, who copped what stoner did in 2009.

Name any premier class world champion whose championship was discounted as unfairly as stoner's 2007 championship ( I will give you nicky hayden, but that hardly helps your case).

As far as criticism of valentino goes, criticising his riding or achievements is equivalent to criticising albert einstein's rating as a physicist, michael jordan's as a basketballer, or wayne gretzky's as an ice hockey player.

However, "stoner is not riding the ducati hard enough" does come under the heading of hubris and nemesis, imo.

already have but I'll do it again, just for the Stoner fans with a persecution complex who somehow feel he is special.

Valentino Rossi......2011-2012-Simple.

Max Biaggi-....2001--2005-Simple.

Sete Gibernau........2004-2006. Simple.

John Kosinski.......1990-93 (i think)

Kevin schwantz.....1989, particularly from the aussies, his PI crash brought many applause if I remember rightly.

Hasn't Stoner stated recently that Rossi is not riding the Ducati had enough..........?

You are wrong my friend, the media and all of its nastiness has been around forever, well before Casey Stoner was born.

Yes... I understand you guys invented mold.

Please sit down here Talps as I do not want to shock to much, but I do agree with the highlighted part but will temper it heavily by saying that today with the Internet there is often confusion between what is media, what is journalism and what is 'keyboard heroics' performed by armchair experts.

In the days of Doohan, Kocinski, Spencer (mentioned for Pete), Sarron (another who copped it a bit) and let us not forget Rudroff, there simply was no internet and we relied on journalists to provide stories and insight into the sport. This was done then, as it is now by the motorcycle journalist with generally little to no adverse personal criticisms of the riders 'personality' as it was not deemed a large part of the sport (that having changed dramatically since the internet age).

I do feel that we, as fans of the sport (that is opposed to the mindless throng that do follow an individual) often confuse what we read on the internet as 'media written' or driven when it is no more than mindless banter on a forum.

Whilst it is absolutely true that the internet age has allowed many enthusiasts to develop their love of the sport into a journalistic career (and I am sure that Krop will not mind me using him as the example - as he himself often states it), he is not similar to the journalists of old as his tools and communication methods are different. That said, he is also an exception in that rarely, if ever does Krop seem to stoop to a level that we have seen with 'non-motorcycling mainstream' journalists, such as those that formed the basis of the attacks on Rossi during the taxation affair (and who no longer comment on the sport).

IMO, the internet age does have a lot to answer for in our demands on these riders as well as the manner in which we judge them as all is now there for our consumption, and often a small snippet taken totally out of context can be twisted and manifested into something that it clearly was not to be (JB's 80 second comment being a possible good example).

IMO and I am sure this will not surprise but I do feel that Stoner cops far more than many other's have over the years, and yes I agree that some may well be deserved (just as it is with Bautista at the moment etc), but I also have no doubt that in 2013 there will be another villain developed by those in the media and forumland that need that as their focus.

The shame is that we ourselves often cannot discern the truth from fiction from opinion from fact and yet we pass judgement as if we were present at the time (all of us)

And glad to see you haven't changed your name to 7-0

Sorry Talps, missed this bit when I replied a few minutes ago.

In short (and from memory) the quick answer is YES, he did say similar, but you cut is taking what I saw well out of the context of the situation in which tyhe question was asked (and for the life of me I cannot recall who the interviewer was but it was a recorded conversation)

Stoner was being asked about the Ducati and how it was that he could essentially get results that VR was unable to achieve. He responded along the lines of saying that today it is a different bike, with a different frame and geometry (etc) but that essentially he had to ride the bike at a level that VR is uncomfortable achieving (or attempting) and that the only way may be for VR to push outside of his comfort zone to see the result.

In the interview the comment was not made in a condescending tone but more came across as explanatory of what may need to occur as the interview itself was more 'general' in nature and not targetted (trying to remember the interview and where it was held)
