Destructive Power of the Media- the end of reason.

Chop, a few Civil War era steam trains puffing coal are NOTHING compared to today's global energy usage. Max emissions have almost certainly occurred within the last decade.

Also, I just cannot begin to fathom the indestructible mental block that so many people have. How can they admit that the climate may indeed be changing, yet also stubbornly insist that humans could not possibly have anything whatsoever to do with it?

Maybe because it has been proven to have happened over and over before man ever walked the planet. You cant say one climate science is ...., while backing up an argument with the same science. Scientist have said that this has been going on for millions of years, and there are periods that were warmer than today before man ever climbed out of the ooze. Its actually been remarkably consistent over millions of years. It stands to reason that if the planet is frozen, which it most undoubtedly was, that ice formations are going to recede as the planet heats. As Rog said, data is pointing more towards another ice age instead of us burning up

This is the one thing you and me sing off the same hymn sheet.

I have a Question.

Will we see any significant change in our life times,

Or is it all predictions as to what could happen long after us mere mortals have gone?

People have been dying for millions of years. Therefore, murder does not happen.

Sorry, but in the context of the global warming debate that's lame man ! Jeez, these scientists can't even agree whether the planet is heating up or cooling down
<
One thing's fact though. The more this scam gets banded about the more we pay for less fuel.

To put it into context. Every human being alive today could fit shoulder to shoulder on the Isle of Wight. You cant see the Isle of Wight from space so its shows how arrogant it is to think this microscopic being called man could have such an effect as to heat up or cool down this planet. All we are doing is ....... up the air we breath and the water we drink. Nothing more.

But that doesn't answer my question.

I understand the argument and do have my own take on it.

But would like to know how long before any significant change will be?

A life time, 2, 3, how many?

As you say the climate has changed many times and there has been times when the planet it self has released more co2 into the air than we are now but we always had the lungs of the world (the rain forests) to bail us out but we are cutting them down as fast as we are putting green house gasses in and also take into account that as the ice is melting its releasing masses of methane and that is the worst gas for global warming,im no expert but something has to give.

Chopper,as ive said im no expert but if the planet wasnt warming (man made or not) the ice woudnt be melting and the sea wouldnt be rising but it is,where i live the beaches have been piled with sands to raise them because the sea has risen, looking at photo's of our beach from the seventies and today the difference is massive.

Sorry its a distant photo but if you look at the promenade you will sea there is a 1/2 mtr drop to the sand, this was 197013832:Bournemouth Beach.jpg]

this is a shot from the prom this year and the sand is level with it,if this wasnt done we would have no beach and this is down to the rising sea level.

Thats the point, no one can answer your question. These so called experts cant even agree whether where heating up, cooling down or staying the same. Ever since we were told in the 80's that oil was running out all we have done since is discover more.

Look at the above photo's and you will sea what has happened in the last 40 years where i live,if the planet wasnt warming the ice wouldnt be melting and the sea wouldnt be rising.

No one disputes the world is changing. What's in dispute is whether man is causing it or whether it natural. I say natural. The uk was once joined to Europe. man didn't cause that separation ,did he.

funny how rising seas are blamed on the ice pack melting yet no one ever considers land reclamation. The earth's axis has changed as has our orbit since the ice packs were formed. Both of these will have a direct effect on temperature. The ice may melt and even form elsewhere in the future.

Cheers Chop and Thedeal,

Exactly as I thought,

The world is doing both IMO.

Summers these days are nowhere near as warm and sunny as when I was a boy, 30yrs or so ago, we used to spend long summer days without a drop of rain for weeks.

But on the other hand we don't get winters like we did back then either.

Snow falling for days, village cut off for 2-3days at a time, NO SCHOOL!! lol.

So by my reckoning I'm never gonna bake in the sun in winter or freeze in summer for a long long time.

So In the real world. WHO GIVES A FCUK?
<

Just my take!

No i agree chopper,i dont know if its man made but as i said above we a destroying the rain forests and they are our defence against global warming gases and to add to it a great deal of that land has been turned into grazing for cattle and cattle are the biggest producers of methane so if you add it all up the chances are we are changing our planet.

Or the amount of concrete used in the ground that once absorbed water but now cannot?

Chopper, pack ice melting does not effect sea levels as its weight is already accounted for (displacement) its the melting ice on land that makes the sea rise and it is melting.

We will just drown in the streets now because they have built on the flood plains and soak aways.
