Continuous Rossi media attention

Italian media love Rossi... They talk a lot about him, and practically they ignore Melandri and Capirossi. This attitude is irritating, and for this reason many of Italians hate Rossi

let's leave it for the 'hardcore fan' for now Ooost

If you insist.

It's a shame that the BBC commentary is so biased because I must confess to liking Parrish and Cox's enthusiastic banter. If only they could be a little more even handed it would be superb.

eurosport is defo more into gp with better coverage in general but i love parrish, and yes hes a rossi fan but hes also a ex racer.
i have the choice of watching either side but i tend to watch bbc with no breaks, i tape the race so dont tend in turning over.. and coxy ehehehehehehehehe thats shot the fox, he needs that like a 3rd armpit..
not bad really..

The Italian media sure knows how to go over the top dont they? I heard that when Rossi lost at le mans the tabloids read, "the end of Italian motorsports" thats a damn big claim considering Italy's illustrious racing heritage.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (rgvneil @ Jul 6 2006, 11:15 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}><div class='quotemain'>Hard core fan Richo? So when was the last year someone on Dunlop tyres won the 500 championship, who was it and why on that make of tyre. And admit if you knew or had to look it up.

I can remember seeing photos from an article about Schwantz`s feud with Rainey and they both had Dunlop stickers on all over him, and I know that he won the title in '93 before HRC`s Doohan came of age in '94 and I`m pretty sure they were on Michelins, so puttting 2 and 2 together I`m gonna say Schwantz in '93, and I got no idea why he used 'em. Of course I would know better if I wasnt in preschool in 1993.

So just because I haven`t been following this sport since the stone age means I can`t consider myself a die-hard fan?

Would you group Ooost with your "hardcore fans" too? Because despite his immense knowlege, you might be surprised how new a fan he is to motoGP.

It was Wayne Rainey in 1990 (or '91) because Michelin withdrew from racing for thar year. You get points for admitting you didn't know which is commendable.
Ooost is a newbie too? Maybe he comes across differently?

Excuse me for not being a history book

All the other riders in the motoGP paddock could have the same fame as rossi, but none of them are cool!
I remember watching WSBK in 1996 and switchin channels to watchsome GPs and thinking whos that crazy crazycool italian kid on a 125. (Vale)
A few weeks later the crazy kid was dressed up in a robin hood outfit!
I feel Rossi antics has more or less brought GPs back as the worlds best motocycling class. The elite.
How many of you all have been to GPs and most of the field dont even wave at the fans. Dani Pedrosa at Catalunya this year was a grumpy ........ I dont care if he fell of 3 times! He did not wave once.
In the words of Vale
"My challenge is to win and <u>my ambition is to get the fans going"</u>
Rossi will continue to get all the media coverage unless other riders try harder for the fans.

He`s definately the king of Charisma, and his antics do bring the crowds in, but the point is theres other riders in the paddock who deserve some air time too.

I agree richo,
The whole paddock is full of amazing riders but they need to do more than be fast and win races.
Mick Doohan wrecked GPs because he was boring.. talented but boring. Sorry to any doohan fans.
<u>G Agostini </u>that man is still cool now. Showman.

Ouch. And here I am thinking Doohan is the king of cool

You gotta admit, Rossi has spoiled the fans though. He is a really charismtic guy and his little shows get peoples attention, but there is only one Rossi. Not all the World champs are like that, or will be like that. I think that`s part of the reason people don`t like Pedrosa. Sure he`s not the most charismatic guy ever, but especially when you put him next to Rossi (which happened for the first time on the DOnny podium) he looks, comparitevely, even more dull. But that`s just Rossi. I don`t know for sure, but I don`t think Rainey ever dressed up a blow up doll like a model to piss his own rival, Schwantz off. That sorta stuff is trademark Rossi. And after 6 years of it, when quiet guys like Dani come along they look really boring because theyre being compared to Rossi, you know what I mean? Most of them arent like Rossi. Even going back, the closest you`ll get to Rossi, antics wise is probably Sheene, and that was 3 decades ago.

Rossi now has his own comic.... Where will it end??

When everyone, media people and fans alike, are so consumed of their "lordship" that their burp would sound rossi

Rossis antics will end when he actually feels threatened by a better rider. But who will that rider be? Could be Danny we'll have to wait and see but until then Rossi will carry on with his celebrations.

ps how silly would it look if Danny, Nicky, Marco or any of the others tried celebrating the way Rossi does?

I knew it was Rainey but I thought it was 1992. Every picture I've seen he had Dunlop stickers, I just figured Roberts Yamahas were Dunlop shod.

I'm pretty new to GP's, I was a SBK guy from 2000 until the end of 2002 and then started following GP religiously in 2003.

You missed the 500s then? Forget the boring Doohan era but if you get a chance to see the Rainey Schwantz era you'll be gobsmacked, it was amazing.
