France, the home of grand prix auto racing has been without the F1 French Grand Prix since 2008 as an example. Though I do think Dorna cares a bit more about their fanbase than F1 does. But if Silverstone had zero interest in paying the hosting fee, and Donington Park/Brands Hatch was not up to their standard --nor willing to upgrade and pay the hosting fee-- then there's really no other options there since you now get into the club circuits which don't have the money or facilities to host GP.

UK has a lot of VR fans. Plus Dorna has gone to great lengths to keep a Brit on the grid with Crutches (Redding is there on merit). This will factor into keeping a GP in UK. Wales always seemed a slush fund project from the git go. I don't see a UK GP disappearing.

Thats what im saying, Silverstone will be in the drivers seat when negotiating hosting fee if Dorna wants to keep a UK GP on the schedule, which i believe they will be desperate to do.

Don't ever think a circuit has the upper hand.

Silverstone was fleeced, and continues to be fleeced by F1. Their financial woes all came about because they felt that they had a moral obligation to host F1 after the proposed plan to switch the British Grand Prix to Donington Park for the 2009 race fell through.

You would have thought Silverstone had the upper hand then, right?

Oh no, the BRDC somehow took their position of strength and nearly bankrupted the circuit in the process by paying, and continuing to pay Bernie Ecclestone's extortion fee.

The BRDC owns and operates Silverstone Circuit on the Buckinghamshire/Northamptonshire borders. The Club has been responsible for developing Silverstone into a world class motor sport venue and promoting top flight motor sport there for approaching 60 years.

They left out the bit about how their economic decisions are a ....... joke.

They will never have the upper hand with a group like CVC, or Dorna because the biggest issue is they are the ones who will have to deal with the fan outrage if they stop hosting either event. Instead of growing a set and dealing with the fallout if the race should cease to run, they don't ever let it get to that point. You think Dorna is really going to give a .... if Silverstone says no to them? They'll find another circuit willing to cough up the big bucks to get the yellow horde to the circuit, or they will add another Spanish round and tell the Brits, ".... you and 1588."

I beg to differ.
As I said before Silverstone really has no interest in holding the gp they don't like it primarily because they don't use the Wing set of pits and their showcase building gets between no or fcuk all coverage.
Time will tell Pov, and believe me I would love to see it continue in the UK.

Anything's possible after the EU referendum. Maybe they'll vote for a Silvexit.

Just saw some pics of it. No hi speed circuit at all. reminds me a lil bit of a mix of assen/phillip island. Looks like it will become the longest motogp track.

Italy is the home of Ferrari, and there's a huge F1 fanbase.

Hasn't stopped Bernie from threatening to eliminate the Italian GP at Monza altogether. The circuit has hosted the Italian GP every year it has been run since 1922 with the exception of 1980 when they went to Imola. The race organizers have not wanted to give in to his demands, so Italy may find itself without an Italian GP in 2017. All the history, and the fanbase doesn't mean a thing to him.

Since Dorna is owned by Bridgepoint, I don't ever put anything past private equity groups to do .... that seems to defy logic and reason because it's all about the money as we have seen endlessly. I don't see Dorna ever getting the short end of the stick because it could create a domino effect where other circuits start pushing back...and frankly, why would they want to even deal with that?

Ezpeleta is small time compared to Eckelstone. F1 wields infinitely more power. He could tell Italy to go .... off. Ezpeleta cannot because MotoVR is MotoVR.

He can threaten all he wants, losing the Italian GP would be the death knell for Bernie and maybe even F1. They will race in Italy as long as Ferrari is involved in the sport. They have as much or more pull in F1 as Honda does in GP and if they want a race at Monza, there will be a race at Monza

And alter if enough to get rid of the Melbourne loop!!!
It could be good all round, it appeared camping was allowed next to the motor for BSB this year, that in itself is a huge step forward.

Yeah, they stopped people taking vehicles onto the campsite decades ago because pissed up plebs were having accidents, setting fire to bikes they'd deliberately bought there to trash and generally ruining it for folks who didn't want that sort of stuff.
Hopefully sense will prevail and Donny will rise again as a much improved track and spectator experience.

Everyone loves Donny, never a fan myself, it's a shame places like Oulton and Brands don't have the facilities to host major international racing as they're cracking circuits.

Was a fan when it was good. It's .... now but getting better again.
However the view from starkeys bar beer in hand watching gp charging down craner curves was the first view of motogp I ever had so just for that it will always be special to me

One of my favourite moments (apart from spending a day with Sarron's team) was seeing and hearing Rocket Ron thrashing the howling JPS Norton around amidst the screaming V4 strokers. Sights and sounds to remember forever...

I was at Brands around 1993-4 and two JPS Nortons were totally dominant in both races, Ian Simpson won and Phil Borley came second each time. The noise was just incredible!

You are kidding I hope, get rid of Melbourne!!!!!! Its shown up a few who thought they could ride/drive.
