Bye Bye Indy 2016

Good news, .... track, great place. Only problem is now COTA is arguably a worse layout and the only U.S. Round!

Why can't they just modify Laguna to make it safer? How is it that the U.S. Cannot provide an amazing racetrack?

Laguna is unsafe? News to me. And surely this isn't the reason Dorna are not sanctioning a race there. I think a more elementary reason might be the obstacle, as in hard cold cash.

I consider the whacking of SManatee a political censure and I was pleased to see a few courageous members chime in against it.

Unphased and unsurprised myself. You know my views concerning the inconsistent 'moderation' of this site'. Johnny has courted far more controversy over the years my opinion - I think it's more to do with what button he chooses to press or which particular raw nerve he agitates - and as far as I can see, this was another knee jerk reaction. Bright guy - and for all the feathers he chooses to ruffle, he also had a great presence on the lounge and can be one of the most insightful members on here. (Actually, I really mean 'inciteful' - (even if I just made up a new word).

He'll already be planning his next incarnation and a spectacular lazarus like comeback, which I very much look forward to. I think I'll whats-app him to take the pi..I mean offer my commiserations.

The US/Laguna can provide an amazing racetrack. What they are not willing to supply it seems is the boatloads of cash that Bernie/Carmelo et al want to give them the 'honour' of coming to their track.

What pisses me off is money makes people ........ Why don't a lot of the circuits, especially those in Europe, form a 'Cartel' and just say "YOU are going to pay us to use our facilities or at best come for free", if you don't like it, .... off to some tilkedrome in the far east until they run out of money and people stop watching on TV.

Can't race cars or bikes without any tracks after all.

They don't form a cartel for the same reason they pay; they fear the fan reaction and they fear some other circuit getting the accolades. Paying to host a grand prix is one of the silliest things I've ever seen. In the ideal world, it should be the other way around, but Dorna, and FOM both exist to transfer large sums of cash from the circuits/taxpayers into the pockets of private individuals/entities.

It's theft pure and simple, yet so many local and national governments go along with the scheme out of routine and fear.

While it'd be nice for Laguna Seca to host MotoGP again, I actually commend them for not doing it. If the economics make no sense, there is no reason to host a world championship round. That's logical and smart thinking.

I'd rather great circuits like Laguna keep to club/regional and some national events, Just like Cadwell park :)

Whomever told you that was having a go mate. Shannonville is a farmers field...

Me @ Shannonville ('04 I think)

Was a cousin of mine, but he now lives over the other side in BC.

Like the helmet, even looks the same colour as mine(well pretty much, mines got a rude pic on the top of it)

I've spent a great deal of time on the Shannonville track and it is a club-racers track at best... that said it used to be on the Canadian SBK calendar... Don't know if it still is. The lid is a Shoei CX-1 I believe... Shoei's always fit me better than Arai...

Shannonville is not on the circuit anymore. There are 2 in Ontario that are though.

As for the main topic, it's a shame about Indy. I went this year for my first gp race and it was absolutely amazing. Everyone was friendly, the venue was great. We had good weather and it was packed. Sad to see it go as now we're left with only Texas and that's a long haul for most fans. Living in the Toronto area I was able to ride there as were many others I met from all over. Everyone had said the same though, texas due to the time of year is out. I wouldn't be able to ride there and if I'm going to spend $$$ to fly and see gp I'm going somewhere better.

Anyone think it will ever return to Indy or Laguna Seca?

I don't think Indy will be back.

Pretty sure IMS and the Hulman family probably would rather just focus on their key event - the 500. The Brickyard 400 is a joke now.

I think Laguna will always be a possibility simply because it is Laguna, and there's nowhere else in the US to go besides COTA. It's just a matter of whether Dorna wants to re-adjust their ........ hosting fees. They do that, we will see Laguna again.

I'm definitely shocked about Indy. The location alone allows for a wide audience . It seemed busy and I found most things reasonably priced. It would cost more to see the Toronto hockey team from good seats for one game than it cost me to see the whole weekend of gp with paddock passes. I loved that I could ride there too. Texas in April isn't possible due to winter for me and the distance means even more time off. Too bad. If I'm going to fly and it's north america I would go to laguna over cota

Indy was a money loser for everyone save Dorna, as most of these things turn out to be.

I know a lot of fans liked the events because of the location and so on, but I'm personally sick of circuits being ...... in the ... by either Dorna or Formula One Management for no reason other than greed. The hosting fees involved are where the lion's share of the money comes from and if they ever lost that, they'd have other ways of making money, but not remotely close to the levels they make it at now.

For that reason alone, I wish it were somehow possible for every circuit to collectively have the balls to tell Dorna and FOM to go .... themselves. It'd do more for getting costs under control than anything since without the copious amounts of money being infused, prize payouts would be far less, and you'd have to start reconsidering the sort of tech at use in the sport. Probably would be the easiest way to get back 500cc 2-stroke engines.

Barber is a much nicer facility than Laguna and is within 5 hour drive of numerous cities with populations in the millions.
