You kid I know, but I wouldn't put it past Azerbaijan. No seriously. Also, Kazakhstan.
I take it back. They would like to go race in Chile, but there are a lot of obstacles. No one is holding their breath waiting for it to happen.
Kropo & Migs (and anyone else who has dismissed selectively certain GP assertions to "conspiracy theories"), did you watch the NFL season opener last night? Ratings were through the roof. A good thing for the NFL since, as sports entities have learned, the big money is in TV. Well, there was this serious bloke on a serious general news program (not a sports program) who asserted the following:
He said the deflategate was a calculated NFL maneuver in the sense that they pursued it knowing that it would create public discourse, while legally knowing it would never lead to sanctioning the NFL's star player (NFL equivalent to a Marquez, Rossi, or Lorenzo). He proposed the smart guys in the room didn't create the deflategate but pursued it knowing the predictable outcome and used it to deflect from the real issues the NFL was facing and potentially image damning such as domestic violence and concussion scandals. He said this April the NFL paid out close to a billion dollars and hardly anybody noticed in regards to concussions. Instead of facing the court of public opinion in regards to their atrocious handling of the domestic violence scandal they were instead providing and directing via the willing media (who lets face it have lost their investigative 4th estate mandate to focus on the substantive questions) to talk about a quarter of a PSI and the team everyone loves to find a reason to hate. Meanwhile everybody was talking about a quarter of a PSI all the way up to the federal court system. Brilliant indeed, that is if you are inclined to believe that kind of cunning stuff contrived in secret board rooms. On a related note I'm amazed that people other than me can concoct conspiracy theories. I say that because it seems I'm the only one who's ever accused of it.
So here is my question, do you think the smartest guys in the room, in this case the NFL top brass or some very smart guy in the room is capable of such maneuver? Or is this news guest a run of the mill conspiracy theorist, where the NFL brass (who claimed they were unaware of subsequent TMZ exposed video of a women being knocked the .... out and dragged like a cave women from the elevator) were pursuing Tom Brady and the Patriots to protect the 'integrity' of the league? As you ponder your answer, consider the "coincidence" that the Patriots were scheduled to kick off the new season opener and what is the topic of public discourse at the moment.
You kid I know, but I wouldn't put it past Azerbaijan. No seriously.
Amazing. Right up there with Donald Flump leading the GOP presidential race at the moment.Nope. Not kidding.

The world has gone mad.
Eeeeasy there chief. I'm not disputing you (hence my Azerbaijan suggestion) . I just don't expect a GP to be organized in Saudi Arabia just yet. You get my meaning? I guess the point I was trying to make (albeit a poor attempt) was that I am amazed ( though I shouldn't be given my inclination for cynicism ) at the brazen evolution of business practices.Because organizing a major motorsports event in an oil-rich dictatorship is completely unheard of.
Nobody? As in people in the paddock? Because it would seem embarrassment to the brass (not that they perceive it in these terms) to make "deals" with venues which appear (sorta) on the calendar but do not materialize. Then again, Brno got done in the nick of time.
I asked our Canadian friend Shovel if there might ever be a race in Canada. Seems our northern friends are too economically savvy for Dorna...perhaps. Maybe they're just happy to be investors. It just seems myopic (speaking as a fan, obviously Dorna are interested in other incentives) to have one sole round on the entire Norther continent (regardless that its just three countries). But S.America seem always willing participants in such "deals". Might we ever see a race in Mexico (they had a failed Wsbk attempt in 93)? How about a return to Brazil, or did the WCup create too many economically prudent watchdog groups.
Jesus dude, is there anything about F1 you dont know?
So F1 going to Azerbaijan, that makes me sick. The ruling family use the nation's wealth as their personal play thing while the masses eat cake, not. The people on the street have the living standards of a Bangladesh or Moldova while the ruling family live in gold palaces.
Good point about Canadian F1. Again, the smartest (richest) guys in the room play the masses like a fiddle, but im crazy for suggesting conspiracy in how they manage the value of their entities?
Mexican Monkey! This post was sublime dude. There's plenty I don't know.
F1 has a long history of going to countries with atrocious human rights records. Even worse are the journalists who actively defended F1 going to Bahrain when the population was being crushed by the royals for daring to protest against them. They said it was no big deal, and that the whole thing was overblown. South Africa was a long-time venue during apartheid, then they still went a couple of more times in the mid-80s when people were screaming over anyone bringing sporting events or business to South Africa. F1 didn't care.
A friend of mine got in a huge fight with Joe Saward over Bahrain, and basically called him out in public. I never saw so much backtracking from that slob journalist. It was almost Kesh-like.
F1 more than anything is seen as a way for rich despots to gain standing on the world stage, and get legitimacy by hosting what's considered to be a world stage sporting event. ...., even Russia has a grand prix in spite of the disgusting .... that goes on with that dump and their dictator. Same thing as the World Cup obviously with those dubious 2018 and 2022 events which offend ever last bit of sensibility I have.
I'm not a religious person, but that's the sort of .... that makes me hope there is a hell, so Bernie, Sepp Blatter, and so many others can burn.
The smartest guys do play the masses like a fiddle, and it's quite easy to do when you're making up the rules as you go along.
I rarely watch the NFL any longer for the sole fact that it's almost WWE-like in quality. Besides the NBA, it is rigged to ..... I always say, at least Vince McMahon is honest in what he gives you, and doesn't mince bones about the outcomes being predetermined. I can respect that far more than entities run by rich shitheads who try to pretend things are on the up-and-up when they most certainly are not.
Mexican Monkey! This post was sublime dude.
The reports of Powerslide's decline have been greatly exaggerated.
Seriously folks, this forum has offered up some good .... these past few weeks. And we got an epic battle brewing this weekend.
Edit: (by battle I mean on the track)
How about Shannonville, I'm told its a good track.
Cool. So does Canada have any "viable" venues?Whomever told you that was having a go mate. Shannonville is a farmers field...
Me @ Shannonville ('04 I think)
