Yeah - what a tough deal Spies has had with Yami. Given all he needed to win a WSBK championship in his rookie year. Given a very competitive Tech Trois bike in his rookie MGP year. Two years on (arguably) the best MGP factory bike. Oh yeah - his teammate is the better rider and the best shot the factory has to win the championship so he got some parts testing duties... .... - that's never happened in motorsports before.
Speculation of course, but if Spies felt he was being used by the factory in a way that was detrimental to him having the success he believed he should have been having while doing parts shake down for Jorge...looking like a total fool as he circulates around in 10th place (because of said parts and required setup) while trying to conjure up the latest "bad luck" excuse before he pulled back into the pits...and then having to stand in front of a camera and explain himself. That would have to be a rather humiliating experience for a type 'A' personality to endure round after round. Especially for a rider that has a history of performing well and feels that he could and should be doing better but can't because of the situation he finds himself in. Just because you are on the "best" bike on the grid does not mean you are in a situation to take advantage of it.
If a person knows going in that this is their role then that's fine. But I get the feeling this is not how it is portrayed going in. Otherwise how else do you get a hungry up-and-comer who has had success everywhere else he has been to sign on if he knows his role is that of the sacrificial lamb?
If he felt he was sold a bill of goods then I can totally understand how he could be just a little pissed about it.
