Ben Spies to leave Yamaha

I think the 'fed up with it' comments heard on a garbled interview are spot on according to this

Ben Spies has revealed that he made his decision to leave Yamaha some time ago.

The American stunned the MotoGP paddock by announcing on Tuesday that he was quitting the factory Yamaha squad after two years.

The move was revealed in unusual fashion, with Spies hinting on his Twitter feed that "big things are happening" and "next year will be a bit different", before emailing the Superbike Planet website to reveal he was leaving Yamaha.

"I've known for quite a bit what my personal decision was, and just knew that now was the right time to [announce] it, with all the contracts happening with other riders, to be at the ballgame with that. That's basically it," said Spies.

The former Superbike world champion declined to expand on his reasons for leaving Yamaha, or to comment on his 2013 destination.

"There's a litany of reasons behind it, and just to get back to being stress-free and doing what I want to do, and finishing the season strongly," Spies said.

"That's all that's going to be said about it at this point until I'm ready to talk about the future."

Animosity?

Love that picture. The orginal headline: "Rossi gives Yamaha Lorenzo ultimatum. Nine-time World Champion could be off to Ducati from 2012"

Lorenzo's and Stoner's facial expressions speak volumes.

Lorenzo: 'I love it when a plan comes together.'

Stoner: 'DO IT! DO IT!'

Stief, I reckon the headline would have said 2011 not 2012

With hindsight they know that now, ergo, you're a ....

I dunno.... I thought most of us (despite wishing otherwise) had gleaned sometime in the last 4 plus years that Ducati was not going to make a MotoGP bike capable of going head-to-head with the Japs. Their DNA has been making boutique bikes for decades. Back in the mid eighties when Ducati started to make inroads in the American club racing scene - only people with money to burn ever tried to race Ducatis and the only ones who had any modicum of success were those who could afford to spend a small fortune on aftermarket stuff from places like Fast By Ferracci, and then the bikes were more or less on par with Jap bikes off the showroom floor with less than $10,000 in race parts. I've never taken Ducati seriously in terms being racing DNA - except in WSBK where they have been changing the rules yearly to keep themselves competitive,

& Yet the phrase "Yamacati" was born. shrug

Not sure if yer being tongue-in-cheek. Can't always tell with you.

Twould be ironic if post-Rossi Ducati actually came up with a winning set-up this year. But I ain't holding my breath.

I find it hard to believe that fans can actually follow someone who is such a jerk. I can find nothing likeable in his attitude and arrogance or his fear of having a competitive rider on the same bike. Neither Stoner or Lorenzo have feared or tried to block a competitive rider form sharing the garage. I read it as though he knows he is not as good and he will do anything to make sure that no one finds out. A level playing field has never been part of Rossi's plan.

100% agree

(Agree, I'm quite baffled at Mr. Personality's unrivaled popularity.)

I know who the source is, and it is very reliable indeed. I believe this to be true.

This has been the lot for American riders when their team mate is Spanish or Italian. Edwards spent several years as Rossi's tester. Hayden now fills this role. What we see from Spies is that he is no-ones ...... I respect that.
