According to MCN today ;
WORLD SUPERBIKE champion Troy Bayliss has unofficially broken the South African superbike lap record at Kyalami – on a standard Ducati 1098 road bike!
As if any further proof was needed that Troy Bayliss is a bit special when it comes to riding motorcycles this latest story shows he can, in his own words, certainly “ride around in circles OK for an old bloke.”
Bayliss logged a best time on a 1098S – fitted only with a Termignoni exhaust system, standard Ohlins suspension and an uprated ECU was still on road-legal Pirelli Dragon Supercorsa tyres.
The best lap time set in the South African series is a 1:48.2s – compared to Bayliss’s best time of 1:47.04s on the 1098S.
Bayliss’s best time is just three seconds off the old WSB lap record set by Carl Fogarty in 2000 on a 998.
the SASB are either ..... or the new 1098 is a bit of an animal. Go Troy.
